$80 Trillion, huh? When? Perhaps, in 20 years time.

80 trillion of what?

80 trillion of XRP and Doge is a very different proposition to entire stock markets translated into tokens of some sort. I can more imagine bonkers valuations as more traditional things migrate into a form of crypto, less so crypto itself in the form that we know and love now.

It's nice to hear such forecasts at a time when the crypto market is experiencing a major crisis!

If it is $80 trillion for all coins and bitcoin is 25%, than means $1million for each bitcoin.

Given that the total market capitalisation of all of the cryptos combined is barely 1/5th of 1 trillion USD at the moment, it's really hard to see the entire crypto market seeing that much growth any time soon.

Tim Draper has been historically extremely bullish on bitcoin, so there is pretty much no surprise that he has come out with this yet again.

I'm not saying that it couldn't happen, given that 15 years is an extremely long time and we have no knowledge of future bull markets that may hit. But it sure does seem like yet another prediction where no actual analysis is put in but instead, an arbitrary figure is made as the supposed target in 15 years in order for him to gain publicity and stay relevant. Obviously his $10k prediction was right, but that doesn't guarantee that he'll be right again.

This is a lot of money, I do not know how he can be so optimistic knowing that there are few countries that use bitcoin as a means of payment or even that its population has easy access to be able to buy bitcoin and that will not change in 15 years. So this prediction of him is too exaggerated.
His main incentive is to make sure that the value of his massive stash of coins goes up even further throughout the years. His Bitcoin holdings are worth a few hundred million dollars at today's prices.

If I was in his place I would be shilling the crap out of Bitcoin as well. We will find out what's left of his bullish nature when Bitcoin ends up hitting his targets. Will he cash out entirely or actually use it as a form of money.

Litecoin founder Charlie Lee found it necessary to dump his holdings at peak levels, which might happen with more of these high level promoters of crypto in general. It wouldn't surprise me if T.D. follows.

Bitcoin Price Will Reach $10,000, Might Take Another Year: Tim Draper

It's unbelievable that he got it right, but this:

First read up i though it is just $80 Billion on 15 years time but as i read again then we are already talking "Trillions" and i dont see this thing would happen considering on 15 years time span.
If we do reach up on that scenario then most transactions do happen will be on crypto with full adoption. These speculations are way too much, im not against with crypto but these are way too high.

i think tim is coming less from that angle and more from the "blockchains are gonna disrupt finance, banking, healthcare, etc" angle.
Well, less Bitcoin will reach x level before y date would put him in a better day light.  Tongue

my old trading mentor always believed a stock market crash would have a very bearish effect on bitcoin. he knows the market perceives bitcoin as a high risk/high reward asset. a larger economic crash would shift creditors into tightened standards (no more easy credit to pump markets) and investors into "risk-off" mode, and money would pour into safe havens. i agree with that assessment.
I'm not really convinced of stock market crashes being a contributing factor either, especially with how they don't highlight why Bitcoin is a good asset to park capital in. Some of that money might flow into Bitcoin, but that money will flow out once the legacy market starts showing signs of recovery again.

the alternative scenario is one where USD completely collapses, but that's a longshot. it's an eventuality on a long enough timeline, but i've seen people predicting imminent USD doomsday for decades. it's a bad bet that you can't time.
You can't time it, that's right, but if you think logically, you shouldn't even want to time it. The only thing people need to do is to act right now and hedge fiat by allocating a chunk of their savings to Bitcoin. In case fiat really implodes, you're good. If fiat doesn't implode, you're good too with how Bitcoin will organically increase throughout the years. In other words, there is nothing to lose but everything to gain.

I have currently close to 75% of my net worth sitting in Bitcoin, and it feels great. I don't have to worry about fiat currencies imploding, no more forced haircuts (which is straight theft regardless of how one looks at it), and no more exposure to how shitty banks are, etc. This is freedom.

Of course it's very easy to predict for 15 years. Anyone can do it. But this is too long. I am sure that in the next 2 years the global crisis will start at all, and what to say in the decade when technology is developing so quickly. In 15 years, the blockchain may turn into junk, and no one needs crypto currency.

$80 Trillion? If you google how much money in the world you can see some very similar numbers. Did Tim Draper mean that Crypto will replace all the money in the world in 15 years? I thought this could happen much later, but I can assume that he knows more than me in this field.

What he's surely right about is that the significant decline in the cryptocurrency market in recent months is attributed to people who have not adopted digital currencies as a new asset class yet. If the number of crypto adopters mounted to hundreds of millions people we'd never see any price drops during whales' dumping.

I don't think you just can compare his prediction to "money."  Like gold, real estate, stocks etc, bitcoin is an asset too with some great properties - for example, it can't be confiscated (stolen) by 'progressive' governments trying to buy votes.  You can go over the border with it and no one will know it (unlike, say, gold or silver).  There are many other examples.

So, if you compare that prediction to assets, you have a huge variance of estimates.  For example, one estimate says the total value of all real estate in the world is about $217 trillion (in 2015).  Adding it all up, you get $500 trillion to (maybe) $5000 trillion depending on who you believe.

Will it hit $80 trillion in 15 years?  Who knows, but when you look at it as more than merely money, it makes it more believable.

I like Tim, but he's preaching too much speculative oinkie oinkie language in my opinion.

I rather see these perma bulls actively highlight how important it is to have people at least hedge a part of their fiat wealth using Bitcoin. Governments will mess up, and we'll yet again face tough economical times which as always, hits the normal folks the hardest. I did so years ago already and I'm pretty close to a point at which even if the economy around me collapses, I'm not much affected by it.

we haven't really seen how a major economic collapse would treat bitcoin. it would be interesting to see how it would have fared in 2008. a lot of people think it would actually be good for bitcoin, but i've got mixed feelings about that, especially while the technology is so young.

Interesting speculation by Tim Draper, it would really be huge crypto market if we compare it with today's market value. He is always very positive toward cryptocurrency and his last prediction in April of this year was 250 000$ by 2022, but since time frame for this is 15 years it is very hard to say how much he is right or wrong. This can happen only if cryptocurrency become something generally accepted in all the sectors he has mentioned.

I'm not going to wait for governments to mess up. I know that it will happen so I took the right measures beforehand. People should do so too.

How much value would have a BTC in such huge crypto market, I guess maybe close to 1$ million or something like that - in next 15 years 99% of all BTC will be mined and most today's altcoins will be dead.
With all coins minted, and a value of $1 per coin, we're talking about a $21 trillion market cap. Based on Tim's $80 trillion estimate, that would put Bitcoin's market cap dominance close to 26%. Gold's current market cap is $7.3 trillion.

Let's first see Bitcoin hit $100,000 first before dreaming of $1 million.
