This is by no means something new. I'm pretty sure I read a similar article about a week ago but regardless. I really hope his case is able to achieve some progression with this appeal but I'm extremely sceptical it will happen. The US government really wanted to make an example out of him with his life sentence without parole. I'm not pro drug use but the US government did illegitimate things to get him to be sentenced to a life in prison.

Convicted Silk Road founder Ross Ulbricht has submitted a writ of certiorari to the US Supreme Court to review a Second Circuit Court of Appeals ruling in his case, according to court filings. The drug kingpin’s motion is Ulbricht’s last resort.

Writ of certiorari orders the lower court, which upheld Mr. Ulbricht’s sentence, to deliver its records to the Supreme Court for review. While it’s far from binding, the Supreme Court can review the case at its discretion. Court Justices must vote to accept the case. However, the court only takes cases which clarify constitutional questions and which establish legal precedents.
