The interest toward Bitcoin by the mainstream has started to increase once again. According to Google Trends, the popularity of the keyword “Bitcoin” on the search engine recently achieved March highs.

I'm sorry if I'm talking nonsense, but what if people are typing: "bitcoin" because they want to see the prices? I go to google myself and type: " bitcoin " and I see the bitcoin price. so I think a lot of people do it because the price is falling a lot and I do not think there are many new people coming into the crypto world. But I may be wrong.

it just shows how people are curious on what BTC is...

it would be great if that were true, because from what I see people do not like to do research before investing, but they like to search for prices

Not trying to defend the report but in some experience using Google analytics, most recommendations are to filter out spam searches, or to prevent multiple counting (like what you do). So when it comes to search statistics, they do ignore those numbers for inflation.

That's my assumption based on what I came to know several years ago, so I expect the algorithm's improved by now. But yeah, since the report methodology actually isn't readily available for scrutiny, it's anybody's guess.

P.S. I use "btc to usd" or "btc to xxx" or "usd to xxx" when i want to know instant forex/crypto rates Wink

Interest probably surged because of all the media attention to the crash. It's not too surprising after the market bored everyone to death this year. The rise probably isn't indicative of a new wave of adoption.

Last year it had media attention as market was on all time high and this year it has attention because it on lower level for this year. This is how roller coaster ride happens in bitcoin world and so the reward people feels is the best but even the risk involved is the highest. Thus due to fall in value is resulting people attention again and results in the top searches about bitcoin surges.

I am quite sure that you are pretty close to what's actually happening. The mainstream media reports about how prices are crashing, and that motivates people to search for Bitcoin, most likely to know why it happens.

Searches for 'Bitcoin dead' are shooting up: https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?q=Bitcoin%20dead
Searches for 'Is Bitcoin dead' are going through the roof: https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?q=Is%20bitcoin%20dead

It's not the type of attention you're looking for, but at least it gets people look at how the situation here is. It might even tempt them to buy at current levels, even if it's just a small group who actually do so.

The fact that interest in Bitcoin is growing and has already reached the figures for April 2018 is undoubtedly great news! But besides this news, there are still a lot of good news coming out lately that simply cannot but affect the market.

I cannot consider the surge significant especially if it is really not that big. But an increase is still an increase and it maybe triggered by the sudden price correction of Butcoin which have awaken a lot of people's interest to it. Im just happy that even though prices are down a lot of people are still searching what Bitcoin is but the problem here is googles searches cannot be directly translated to demand, it just shows how people are curious on what BTC is and it may have been triggered by the sudden dip of BTC.

The interest toward Bitcoin by the mainstream has started to increase once again. According to Google Trends, the popularity of the keyword “Bitcoin” on the search engine recently achieved March highs. The frequency of Bitcoin searches on Google has been on a constant downtrend for more than eight months, possibly due to the 85 percent decline in the price of the dominant cryptocurrency.
