The ukraine isn't the only one who can benefit from using blockchain to remove corruption, having transparent payments will ensure that there are no extra payments that no-one knows about

The thing is, when Tymoshenko presented her whitepaper for reforming the country, Ukrainian journalists and experts quickly figured out that it's just a collection of buzzwords and populism written by some hired writers. She even can't pronounce "Linux" and "blockchain" correctly.

As far as I remember Tymoshenko was also accused of "misuse of public finances", which is corruption.

It was pretty funny seeing the photos of Tymoshenko getting out of prison. She was wearing her trademark hairstyle (a circle of blond pigtails on the back of her head that resembles an angel's halo Cheesy). But she didn't have hair dye in prison for her real hair, so the halo (which was just something she clipped onto her real hair) was still super blond, while her real hair was mouse brown.

^^ the famous wheelchair+high heels combo straight after prison photo Smiley
Timoshenko has a trail of corruption and is associated with Pavlo Lazarenko ,accused of laundering and stealing money and serving jail term in one of the US prisons
she is a well known populist who will say anything to become president
there is also a recording of her phone conversation with one of the deputies where she wants to "shoot Russians with nuclear weapons"
no wonder she is riding the blockchain waves while having zero idea about the subject
in any case, I'm sure she will be appointed the next president, poor Ukraine....

there's still a ton of problems - the results can be tampered with before they are submitted to blockchain, you can still bribe voters, etc.

In the case of those council elections I mentioned you had to pay a XEM registration fee to register to vote.

Tons of no mark voters registered.

In many cases their fees were traced to the accounts of those with interests in a competing blockchain that some think is trying to stifle NEM by populating its leadership with their people so those zombie voters were all struck off.

Quite a few of those people were already on the council. They only opened a 7 day window for voter registration. It wasn't well publicised. The fairer, or rather impossible to game, way of voting with NEM's consensus mechanism was voted down by the people under suspicion in favour of the conventional registration system.

Without the blockchain to follow the trails they left they would've walked it and progress could well have been strangled. Instead it's looking up for the first time in a long time.

And then she even got a little booed by the protestors, because they've felt that she is trying to hijack the movement. But that was 5 years ago and some things have changed, today she is a major candidate.

NEM did a demo for the Ukranians the other day shortly before the NEM council elections which concluded a couple of days ago. Funnily enough the NEM council elections proved to be corrupt as fuck with certain figures buying voter registration en masse. Since it was all blockchain based most of them were traced and booted.

Eventually this is going to shake shit up massively. This particular iteration don't look like it's going to do the job though.

Dunno if it was the same things, but I remember reading about some Ukrainian activist submitting the results of 2014 elections to NEM blockchain. It's kinda cool, but I don't see it as "blockchain revolution", there's still a ton of problems - the results can be tampered with before they are submitted to blockchain, you can still bribe voters, etc.

I do not agree with you. The current government of Ukraine has already praised the advantages of the blockchain technology and is actively introducing it into the functioning of state bodies at the highest level. Thus, the data of the land cadastre, that is, accounting in the country of all land plots and their owners and owners is transferred to the blockchain technology. Now, for a small fee, every resident of Ukraine can receive information and documentary evidence on any land area of the country. The blockchain technology translates various tenders, contests, tenders and auctions, and this is what can play an important role in the fight against corruption.
In the future, regardless of who will be the new president, Tymoshenko or not, the blockchain technology in Ukraine will be implemented all the same. And to support this technology, Tymoshenko does not have to know how to pronounce the word "blockchain". We all learn a little and constantly.

They've just made some statements and promises like everybody else, and maybe toyed a bit with centralized blokchcains which are nearly useless. All these new electronic systems don't do much in fighting corruption, because the government itself is corrupt and is merely pretending to do anything about it. Journalists have dug up a ton of cases, yet no one is prosecuting anything, and even when things go to the court, the criminals only get a slap on the wrist. Buzzword technology couldn't solve corruption even if it worked as intended, because it takes a huge amount of political will to deal with it.

If he would able to sit up on the position on next years election then he will definitely made such adoption but if not then it would really just
remain as a proposal or consideration. When we do talk about blockchain tech which anything can really be seen on Ledger and such tx cant really
be denied nor hidden.

Before such consideration would be applied for sure it would still need lots of debates before it passes.

It's not a "he", it's a "she" Wink

Corruption is a huge problem in Ukraine and we could see that when the protesters took over the president's mansion and forced him to flee. As far as I remember Tymoshenko was also accused of "misuse of public finances", which is corruption. If people stored their money on blockchain it would be clear who is getting how much money and there would be no dispute over such misuse of finances.

Did anyone read the actual article? It says, " Ukraine is planning to issue its own cryptocurrency called the e-hryvnia " ..so this is just another GovCoin that are linked to their own reserve currency.   Roll Eyes

It is also not a public coin and it is controlled by their government. So how can a coin that are controlled by a government, stop corruption? They can just manipulate the Blockchain that are controlled by them.  Roll Eyes
Ah, I didn't actually click the link (read the article), if that's the case then that country will be full of corrupt officials if that plan will be finalized or even after it will be released.

No wonder. The Ukrainian government has long been using blockchain technology and is quite loyal to the functioning of cryptocurrency in the country. In the Verkhovna Rada, the legislative body, there are several good bills on cryptocurrency, including the complete absence of taxation on income in cryptocurrency, as well as the withdrawal of such taxation for a term up to 2029.
Since the topic of corruption is still relevant for Ukraine, of course, Yulia Tymoshenko, as a real contender for the president’s election, should use this opportunity in her election campaign, even if it is pure populism. However, in any case, if she becomes president, the blockchain technology will be actively introduced by two in Ukraine.

Yulia Tymoshenko, ex-Prime Minister of Ukraine and aspirant for the presidential chair at next year’s elections, has suggested a persuasive way to help conquer corruption in the country. According to her point of view, blockchain technology is the perfect candidate for this role.
If he would able to sit up on the position on next years election then he will definitely made such adoption but if not then it would really just

It's a "she". Now, before anyone here gets  hyped for a government adopting blockchain technology, I have to disappoint you. The thing is, when Tymoshenko presented her whitepaper for reforming the country, Ukrainian journalists and experts quickly figured out that it's just a collection of buzzwords and populism written by some hired writers. She even can't pronounce "Linux" and "blockchain" correctly.

She is a pretty popular candidate and might become the next president, but there's very little chance that something blockchain-related will happen in the government, and even if it will happen it will most likely be useless.

For developing and emerging countries like the Ukraine, the technology is perfect for counteracting corruption and mismanagement. That is why we will see more such news in the future. However, it is often overlooked that such countries then work with permissioned blockchains such as the Hyperledger software collection and not with any of the public ones such as Bitcoin or Ethereum.

Well, everything related in government from election to audits and etc. blockchain is really a helpful one all due because of its work of transparency and to its append-only data structure nothing can be changed once submitted.
