Meanwhile, there's an advocate that protests due to the enormous donation that the Notre Dame is getting.

‘We need a roof too’: Housing advocates protest after $1B raised to rebuild Notre Dame
Not a surprising thing yet there would really be reaction with such support.Imagine $1B raised for 24 hours just to repair Notre Dame? That amount would really be too much.
I would really have that sympathy for those poor who do needs a roof too.Why these billionaires dont consider on giving up a share to poor ones? This shows how cruel the world is.
All things do have motive just like on donating millions of usd just to show off their power/fame/popularity.
I also asked that question after look at the other people's comment about the donation. Well, these billionaires probably have been donating to the poor for some countries and specific areas and because of their generosity, they aren't publishing it to the news.

It can be true or not but that's a big possibility. It is their money after all and whether the reason is personal or they are generous, they can do whatever they want with their money. And one reason why they would donate that much to Notre Dame because it is part of history and people value that much.

When I read that they already received almost a billion, I thought they have enough for restoration. Now I see that early estimates put the cost of rebuilding in the multi-billion euros.

Of course they have a lot work to do. That was on every news. The point of the high price is not just in great part of Notre Dame to recover, but also in that fact that they want to use exactly same materials which were used hundreds years ago for the construction.

I think they consider these conations as an investment. So they gain more fame as you said by doing this and that. There are no real benefits of helping poor people for them unless they want to submit their own press release saying 'Hey, I give 1 billion to the poor!'.

But we have a lot of good people out there. They might not be able to raise 1 billion but they dedicate their time and money to help those in need. That's definitely better than nothing.
Yeah, we are just talking on the bad side but eventually there are really people who do just silently help out the poor and giving out donations silently which i do really idolize where they dont
tend on mentioning out their names or do make things for their own benefit. These people do exist but the part of reality where greedy ones are much more in numbers.
Sorry if this is already somehow out of topic.

It would be great if bitcoin donations were higher than fiat donations. This would pave the way for other places to add bitcoin as a form of currency

LOL yeah. And to add:
A government that pisses off the citizens with cryptocurrencies by asking them to 'report' any exchange account (open or closed) they have or had. Which is insane.
A government that not so long ago was ready to tax the crypto gains up to 64%. No wonder why the big fortunes move out of the country.

Leave no FUD unchallenged
Apparently, Notre Dame is technically owned by the French Government.  It seems almost perverse that Bitcoin users, of all people, want to raise money for a national government.   Grin

"Could"... That makes a huge difference. The Minister just says

Quote
“I’m not sure every bitcoin player can do it but, anyway, we are open to the discussion. People should be able to make donations through whatever means they want to use”.
.

So it's a "why not".
Anyway, they won't accept Bitcoin directly, Firstly because the donations don't go to the government but to licensed Foundations (there are only 4). So it's going to be one of these foundations that will take the BTC donation. And they will probably use another entity to act on behalf.
Few other charity campaigns started also, like on Binance.Charity and others.
