Limited in number. Limitless in potential.
That's unfortunate, well, that's life and hats off to this man, and to all bitcoin developer and open source community who contributed the bitcoin protocol. RIP man.

He also came from the world of big banks:

According to Bloomberg, Blummer worked as an analyst at Deutsche Bank AG from 1996 until 2012, when his LinkedIn page notes that he joined Morgan Stanley as an executive director in Budapest. His first official career foray into Bitcoin came with CoinTerra in 2014.

Up until his passing, Blummer remained active in the Bitcoin world. For instance, he published an article about flaws in the central banking system to Medium on December 16, 2019.

“The central bank is never short of cash, since it creates it,” Blummer wrote in what would be his final public argument in favor of a decentralized financial system. “That is what the Fed engages in increasing hundreds of billions since September 2019. Doing so however sends a signal to the market, that there is not enough cash for everyone. This is like blood in the water for the predators who have thereby the confirmation that some banks struggle and either have to pay high interest rate for short term cash or liquidate their bag of treasuries at depressed prices.”

I haven't heard about Tamás Blummer, but I feel saddened by the loss. He got involved with Bitcoin in 2012 and that was the time when I got my first Bitcoins. During the past few years, a number of Bitcoin developers have bid farewell, after losing their battle with cancer. One name that comes to my mind right now is that of Alexandru Bogdan Semenciuc (better known as Paraipan). He was the owner of Rugatu, one of the earliest Bitcoin startups. He died from brain tumor, sometime in 2014.

Good riddance.

Personally, I haven't heard about Tamas, thanks to the OP though, but it doesn't mean that he will be forgotten. Just by reader his github contributions, he truly spends lots of his time with bitcoin. Just a shame that people like him lost their battle against cancer. Rest in Peace my man.

This is very sad!
The contributions that he made for bitcoin will never be forgotten. Their legacy will stay and we will never forget all of those things that they've made for bitcoin. Many won't know who he was but we're lucky to know that he's part of the people that contributed well to the development of bitcoin, so long Tamas.  Cry

That sucks. It's also a reminder for people to not just blow money left and right on things they don't need, but actually donate to cancer research so that we do not have to lose people who make the world a better place. Steven Jobs for example, so wealthy, yet that disease made his life come to an end.

I'm pretty sure that in every country there is a state-of-the-art hospital or university doing cancer research, and they need funds. I donate twice a year to one of such hospital in my country. It feels good contributing to something that could help us all out. We shouldn't accept that this disease ends people's life.

We have plenty of useless non contributing people in the space already, but the few who actually understand what Bitcoin stands for and what it brings to the table decreases.

Many of his articles are motivating and he also made a logical argument for adopting a decentralized financial system, quoted from his article:

For everyone who doesn't know Tamas Blummer, I think you can spend some time reading his articles ----> https://medium.com/@tamas.blummer or reading his GitHub ---> https://github.com/tamasblummer.

From CoinTerra in 2014; until his death, Blummer remained active in the Bitcoin world[1].

It's quite shocking that I'm just hearing this news for the first time about his cancer yet you'll see that he was even active with his social media last two weeks ago as if he doesn't have any kind of sickness whatsoever. Even if you checked news before his death if he was admitted to a hospital or something you literally wouldn't see anything before this was, he maybe keep his cancer as a secret which I don't know the reason why. His last tweet was even for Bitcoin and I think that is what he wants us to remember him, a developer who have helped Bitcoin and its community.

Not all people would really be that too open when it comes to their health conditions.Majority would really to hide it out on the public.
Sad to hear up this news which one of the old BTC Devs already passed away due to cancer and 3 year battling with this sickness
isnt really that simple but well, life goes on and surely his contribution wont easily be forgotten specially by Bitcoin community.

This is actually my first time to hear the name of this man Tamas Blummer but reading on some notes about him I think the whole Bitcoin community should be giving a homage to the many things he had contributed to Bitcoin. Let's hope that some personalities will be continuing the legacy he achieved for all of us in the Bitcoin community. Indeed, it is sad to say goodbye to someone who is a big figure in the development of Bitcoin but this is a big reality life is offering to all of -- the chance to live once and make things better. And I know that sir Tamas Blummer will always be remembered.

Tamas Blummer was one of the programmers who contributed to the development of the open source Bitcoin protocol as he has been involved in Bitcoin since 2012. He has been active in the code from then until he updated rust-wallet, a library to build the Bitcoin wallet.

He passed away on January 12, 2020.

RIP @TamasBlummer. These past three years you fought cancer, and you fought it valiantly. I will dearly miss your friendship, wise words, and humor. Thank you for the many lessons on Bitcoin and life. It hurts to say goodbye.
