@rdbase. That type of censorship is clearly bad, yes. It will also push away big users. Joe Rogan has already leaving youtube and has made a deal with Spotify for $100m. The deal might only be for the money, however, Alsx Jones who is a close friend of Joe Rogan said that it was because of the needless censorship.

Alex Jones' info wars show was also banned in youtube.

I had an idea that Google is going to create its own crypto environment in the future, so they are suppressing the competitor now.

Google is not only censoring news and videos about bitcoin, the censoring also occurs on independent news creators. I reckon that Google is doing this for their politcal agenda. They only want the political storyboards that are similar to their political views.
Google who owns youtube censored Cointelegraph in the middle of their livestream of the halving with a strike which took them offline.
That was a rather big name to the crypto audience on their platform so if they do this so called "mistake in censoring" of anything to do with crypto, then what chance do the little guys such as these crypto youtube influencers have?

Clean Code and Scale
Google, Apple, Fakebook - all try to run own payment systems. I dont expect them to play fair

except: Bitcoin will be their cheap compliant base protocol layer  ... Bitcoin can do that

I wonder what Googles motivation for doing this is?

Simply Google is paid by the banks and the financial institutions to censor Bitcoin.
They don't want Bitcoin - even if there are so many news that banks are looking at it and they want to be involved in there. At least they want to be involved with a new chain and not in Bitcoin's one.
Google is part of the system that is against Bitcoin and economical freedom.

@Naida, this might be one of the reason. Everyone is watching out for his/her direct or indirect competitor?

I guess paypal might also like such action!

Thanks

There are a lot of scam accusations about gambling sites - some for real, some not. Some cry that the casino didn't let them cheat, some don't understand gambling, sometimes errors happen and some times times some casinos are indeed found scamming.

And the number of casinos is nowhere near the number of youtube videos. I can't imagine how many are scam indeed, I expect a lot. Of course, a lot others are not related at all with scam, which doesn't mean they don't get reported, for various reasons or simply by the competition. And of course, the AI handling all this + the humans checking now and then is most probably making mistakes too here and there, not only on bitcoin topics.

Does this mean Google is afraid of bitcoin? Does this mean Google has anything against bitcoin? Does this mean anything?? No. Sorry.
Google is nowhere near angels, clearly, but this accusation has no basis.

PS. Would that Forbes guy have said anything if by chance his videos would have been unaffected?  Wink Or he's just calling "burn the witch anyway!"?

This isn't the first time Google has done this. And the real reason why this happens is still not clear.

It's all about big companies avoiding potential legal issues by showing crypto related stuff. Remember when Facebook and Google at the same time pulled-out any ads related to cryptocurrencies and ICOs? Back then there was a surge of scam coins and projects that didn't fulfill their promises and they were just avoiding the backlash from users who will point out their company as a liable party on why they invested in such ICOs. With them censoring Bitcoin technical analysis Youtube channels I can say it is more related to the whole fake giveaways happening in Youtube and I think that they shadowban all crypto related videos and that cause these channels to suffer as well since there is also a risk from them involved.

This is exactly what it seems. Google is negative about bitcoin, and apparently there are several reasons for this

Jaszczynski adds, “I noticed that in June and December 2019 the YouTube purge was happening through strikes, which prevented us from uploading our bitcoin technical analysis videos. ‘Shadow-banning’ however is more of a stealth approach. It limits the reach of YouTube videos, and as a result, this significantly decreases the number of views that we receive.”

The article pointed out that these Youtube channels are being prevented to upload their technical analysis video but if I tried to search "bitcoin analysis" in Youtube you will see a lot of recently uploaded technical analysis videos in Youtube, so this might be wrong or the shadow ban is not a problem anymore. What is weird though is if you look at the "video" page in Google after searching "cryptocurrency" you will see that top results are not from Youtube but from sites that have no relations with Google so I think they may have tweaked search results as well.

Because it causes them endless ball aches with scam reports, scam ads and other endless dishonesty? I'm sure they don't have these problems with kitten videos.

We don't know how automated they are and it's not as if an algorithm can tell the difference between a good Bitcoin video and a 'bad' one.

This.

Google is Youtube and they just got sued, not for the first time either, by someone (this time Ripple) for allowing scam videos about Ripple. I think Facebook last year was it got sued by people whose likenesses and names were used in scams.

So yeah, it's pretty shitty to get censored but yeah, if you ask me, someone who wants censorship-free platforms should know where to find them or circumvent them. But sweet ol gramma who wants to go on YT, I'd love it if those scammy crypto shills don't even make it to her.

(Link to the article for those interested https://www.forbes.com/sites/lukefitzpatrick/2020/05/06/google-algorithm-update-did-google-just-censor-bitcoin)

An article trying maybe to manipulate people's opinions and jumping too fast on conclusions and conspiracy theories. Youtubers are not ranking and boom! Youtube censors Bitcoin!

It happened last year when YT banned cryptocurrencies related videos but then admitted it was an error and all videos would be reinstated.
Why can't this be just another mistake? Don't you think if YT really wanted to censors Bitcoin it could have done it a few months ago?
What about if Youtube is currently releasing an algorithm update (like Google is currently doing)?

Why do Bitcoin fans always choose imagined persecution over boggo reality? Crypto is a fucking pain up the arse because of the scum involved and the trouble they cause. It uses up resources. No one should be surprised if those resources are directed towards the wrong targets sometimes.

Google is afraid of crypto and I have not yet been able to find out why.

We don't know how automated they are and it's not as if an algorithm can tell the difference between a good Bitcoin video and a 'bad' one.

It was 2016 when their adnetwork was filled with crypto ads and some investors blame them for allowing these scams. Facebook did the same. That's enough reason to Censor or it could be because crypto will put them to shame when their stocks in NASDAQ are not going to go up while BTC and other cryptos will rocket to the moon.  Grin

BTC: the beginning of stake-based public resources
Quote
...Google’s update is not limited to crypto YouTuber’s, it has also hit some crypto news outlets as well. Carl Runefelt, YouTuber and founder of The Moon AB says, “This latest development regarding YouTube censorship against bitcoin-videos is very alarming. Youtube is now clearly deliberately limiting the reach of my videos when I put the word bitcoin in the title.”

Oh dear. Seems we can't trust the every day tools we are using. But this is ultimately not a surprise.

I wonder what Googles motivation for doing this is?
