This guy probably had a few coins he wanted to sell, but he wanted to sell at a higher price... so what does his drug induced brain tell him... well I guess it will go something like this :

McAfee talking to himself : " Damn I need to sell a few coins, gotta pay for the booze and drugs.. but it's expensive, so the price needs to be higher... what can I do? Ah!! .... I hyped up a few Alt coins on social media... what if I say I will cut off my dick if the price does not go to a million dollars.. my followers will believe anything I say and then they will start buying.

Reality : The Bitcoin price did not react at all, so he sold anyway.. and now he is saying people who believed him was gullible and Bitcoin is crap. (He probably has no bitcoins left and he is hyping a new Alt coin)  Roll Eyes

Someone who is considered to be smart if makes this type of statements then surely people would not be looking upto him for the future course of action. Also, when you become a known face your words should be more responsible and carefully spoken so that this types of situation and better to research so that the understand also increases.

In a normal world this would be the case, crypto is not a normal world.

To me he kind of encapsulates the whole thing pretty neatly. He hasn't achieved anything. He doesn't make or develop anything. Nothing he has touched has been a success. But he manages to make a lot of noise and give a lot of people erections even though they know deep down they're going to wind up getting fucked.

That's most shitcoins in a nutshell right there.

We probably shouldn't be giving him publicity, but it might be worth it just for everyone to realize he's just a clown; it might save a few folks from falling for his dirty pump and dumps.

I think we shouldn't be afraid of giving additional publicity to some "clowns"(I'm sure you can name a few), because we are not in the world of pop culture where any publicity, good or bad, is actually good for an artist or a group. It doesn't work like that in the world of finance ... Well, at least it shouldn't. There are always some exceptions.

Anyways, now he opted for some weird strategy for promoting his new creation:

Although, whether it's his creation is a big question. PIVX developers claim that GHOST whitepaper was vastly plagiarized from an outdated 2018 PIVX whitepaper.

Man ruined his reputation with his statement about Bitcoin.

I however, would interpret it as someone who knows that he has made a great fool of himself in front of millions of people. Who would follow his advice or pay him to shill shitcoins and scam tokens now?

Everyone has the right to interpret information in their own way, but I would not agree here that he made a fool of himself. What he did was just (for him) one very clever business move that earned him probably millions of dollars, playing the card of people’s naivety. It should also not be overlooked that people have a very short memory, and that he still has a very large number of followers who have not stopped being his fans.

Consequently, he is far from going to the margins of the crypto world - because there are always those who can be seduced with a little good marketing and nicely packaged promises.

@Lucius. When did he make that statement mentioned in the article, however? He never admitted that it was a joke only an idiot would believe until I read the article.
Also, do you reckon that it was only a joke from the beginning? It appeared to me that he thought his own rubbish would become real hehehe.

Well he actually admitted it, unless someone wants to interpret it differently - but for me personally everything is said in this tweet :

https://twitter.com/officialmcafee/status/1213839069681205254

I would personally interpret this tweet as an indirect shilling for shitcoins. I guess McAfee already sold his soul fully to shilling shitcoins even prior to him making this tweet.

Unfortunately, many shitcoin shills such as this man are doing their dirty acts at the expense of Bitcoin. These ingrate sprouts of whatever Bitcoin has achieved seem to create their significance by discrediting Bitcoin itself.

Man ruined his reputation with his statement about Bitcoin. We can conclude that you must always think about what you are saying, as well as about the consequences of what was said.

McAfee and his comments are just idiotic.   "Ancient technology," "worthless," "least used" just shows his own lack of technical understanding not to mention understanding of the genesis of bitcoin.  The rest of the crypto-sphere is extremely centralized, one person (or a very small group) can pretty much control most (perhaps even all) other cryptos.  Look at the ether split from a few years ago.

He just likes trolling people and getting press.
I certainly agree with you on this. He is the one who sold the parent McAfee just for quick bucks.

Just don't take him seriously.

I guess McAfee already sold his soul fully to shilling shitcoins even prior to him making this tweet.

I'm unsure if you're stating a fact or actually guessing, but his being a paid shill has been confirmed as far as two years back:

“Individual tweets, whether created in Mr. McAfee’s voice or by the company whose products we are promoting, cost $105,000 per tweet,” writes the McAfee Crypto Team.

And straight from the horse's mouth, since his website stating above quote have since gone down:

They say I sold out 'cause I use my tweets to promote, but the last 200 ICOs that lined up, we rejected 195 and chose 5. I only promote what I believe. In addition, all ICOs that we promote, since Finacoin, are audited by Crypto Connection. And I limit promos to 2 a day max. So..

We probably shouldn't be giving him publicity, but it might be worth it just for everyone to realize he's just a clown; it might save a few folks from falling for his dirty pump and dumps.

OP: if you weren't skeptical at the time he made the prediction, then you haven't grown up yet:P All these influencers? They don't even give a shit about the tech or the adoption. They want their money and they want it big, fast, hard (that's what she said I know) and who cares about everyone else? Terrible man with terrible deeds. Nothing changed about him.

Well, what can we expect from this funny man? John has shown to be a big joker, and he just continued to say whatever he wanted to say all because maybe he is making some money while doing it. He still has some following despite the many incredible claims and predictions. Now, has officially laughed at the "1 million" prediction he made. You know what, maybe this is the time that we officially shut down our door to him and not listen to whatever he might be saying in the future. That is the only thing we can do because he has no credibility at all. I love Zac Efron though.

Its always been like this and it seems he do chose this path since he know that he can benefit out rather than praising and give out positive sentiments towards BTC.

Theres no looking back and everything he said in the past had already been ignored and he dont care at all if that thing made him a troll into this crypto community.

Everyone knows on what hes up to and the words that comes out to his mouth wont really have any value or doesnt really need any attention.

He never had a soul to start with. He knew a hype when he saw it and knew he had a few factors that would turn on crypto fans enough - a mild degree of fame already, ancient track record, lots of guns, lots of squalid habits.

Everyone knows he's full of shit, as does he. Everyone still pays attention. I'd probably do the same given the opportunity apart from attempting to put some nominal effort at credibility in.

What idiot could believe such nonsense?” tweeted the 74-year-old yesterday about his lofty prediction. Who on Earth would believe that “Bitcoin, the most crippled crypto-tech,” would rise to the high price of $1 million?

McAfee, who has doubled down on his claim several times, was pulling our leg. “Wake up!” he wrote in his tweet. “If Bitcoin ever hit $1 mil, it's market cap would be greater than the GDP of the entire North American Continent.”[/i]
~

It looks like he's talking to himself, because no one apart from him believed his nonsense about $1 million. And when you start talking to yourself, well, maybe it's time to retire. Smiley

Agreed! Many people were already laughing at him when he tweeted his formula that he claimed to have been working for years hehehe. When everyone has witnessed that he was wrong, he calls the people that believed and trusted him idiots.

They certainly talked about it and that's the only reason it was spouted. It means he can charge more next time to be a shitcoin 'adviser'

Since he's been rubbing himself all over the crypto space for several years now it would be helpful if he'd actually achieved something by now. Literally anything is better than the nothing I'm detecting.

IIRC, he said that he did for the hype and because of that moment when bitcoin was on a bullish trend, many got hyped and thought of it as actually about to come, and then 2018 came.

That's why it is important not to always believe on what other people are saying specially if they are a highly influential person in the industry like McAfee as they can always back down on what they are saying and make it like they were only joking that time or will say that they haven't guaranteed anything about it. For people still believing on the price predictions of McAfee in Twitter or in anywhere just remember that he himself have revealed that he is accepting payments for a paid tweet so yeah he himself know that his followers in Twitter are literally following on what he is saying so I'll be careful next time on what I'll be believing in the internet because in their eyes you are just fools following them.

I have already commented in some thread about him on what the word "ruse" means -> a trick intended to deceive someone..

We can say that it was a joke, but at the expense of all those who believed in it - while on the other hand McAfee earned a pile of money promoting various shitcoins on his social networks.

Isn't this old news already?

Of course, this is old news which was the subject of debate a few months ago, but I am already personally accustomed to this kind of news being recycled from time to time. That way he gets free PR, people visit his Twitter, and the purpose of it all is ultimately the profit he makes from it.

The only new thing that can be somewhat interesting is the fact that a film about his life is being prepared, which might have some success given the loyal army of followers on social media. People are attracted to controversial people, and McAfee is definitely one of those. Just check one of his latest tweets (from article) and you will see that he is currently focused on weapons, and gives advice on the subject - bring your weapon even to bed, for a safer sleep Roll Eyes

Isn't this old news already? I guess he made his infamous u-turn around half a year ago.

From aggressively shilling Bitcoin to criticizing it for being an "ancient technology," "worthless," "least used," and so on, this man has proven himself to be more of an unstable joker.

At 74, the old man is still trying hard to gain attention.

I am skeptical that this is what he thought while he was making his prediction. He was also declaring that it was based on his own math calculation that he created hehehe.

He believed in his own nonsense and he is angry at himself and at everyone who believed him.

Zac Efron to star in John Mcafee movie, King of the Jungle

It turns out that John McAfee, the eccentric billionaire who made his money from anti-virus software, was having us on all along when he predicted in 2018 that Bitcoin would reach $1 million by the end of this year. He has long maintained that, "if not, I will eat my dick on national television."

What idiot could believe such nonsense?” tweeted the 74-year-old yesterday about his lofty prediction. Who on Earth would believe that “Bitcoin, the most crippled crypto-tech,” would rise to the high price of $1 million?
