@ Harlot. It might only be a paid for advertisement from a new bitcoin payment processor called Strike hehe. This appears to be a new form of marketing tactic similar to reality TV became a new form of sitcom hehe.

This is surprising, because the article appeared on Fox News (I came across it for the first time last month) and I never thought that it was a promotional campaign. Anyways I was wondering why he is taking a huge risk in converting half of his salary to Bitcoin (the article claims that he made the request in 2019, when the Bitcoin exchange rates were quite suppressed).

It is a risk, however, he can change his lifestyle, assume that he has lost half his salary already and make all his expenditures for 2021 only 50% of 2020. I speculate that he might raise expenditures by 500% on 2022 hehehe.
Or maybe he's just covering his debts. maybe he's not a bitcoin fan and he was just forced to do it

This is very cool! Thanks to people like these, bitcoin is becoming a means of payment faster than just a speculative instrument or a means of accumulation. I wonder which athlete will be next?

It might very well be, but reputable websites have the decency to mark whether or not the content is sponsored, promotional, paid for, etc.

It says right there:
Quote
Okung, who is owed $13 million in 2020, will receive half of it in bitcoin as part of a partnership with a Bitcoin company.
(emphasis mine)
+ his tweet I linked to above and you get the answer.

But I like that he continues to post about Bitcoin:

He migbt be trying to trigher some kind of hype that is why he probably is tweeting about it, he is hoping that what he is saying will trigger some kind of price action in which he will earn more after they are done converting his Bitcoin. What a bad way to start something, these kind of people are not what we are looking for in the community since they are trying to make ot look like we are easily manipulated that even a not known NFL player can infuence the market, I even bet that the article is involve in this non-sense.

It would be interesting to see more sports players asking for compensation in BTC but this isn't what's happening:

Looks more like an ad campaign to be honest: https://twitter.com/RussellOkung/status/1343941366024433665

Yeah, you are right.  It is too bad that Okung lied about it or someone lied to him about it.

He is a big bitcoin supporter though.

It is also clickbait. This appears to news paid by someone or it appears that someone from Fox Business news might also be a bitcoin investor hehe.

What a shame, that would have been another strong endorsement for bitcoin.
If your employer cannot pay you in bitcoin then do yourself a favour and exchange those fiat money for BTC.
If you cannot have it, then find a way to have it.  Wink

Carolina Panthers offensive lineman Russell Okung has fulfilled his goal to be paid in bitcoin.

Okung will become the first player from any major U.S. sports league to receive a portion of his salary in bitcoin, according to NFL Network. Okung, who is owed $13 million in 2020, will receive half of it in bitcoin as part of a partnership with a Bitcoin company.

He seems to be vocal about the benefits of bitcoin, "life, liberty, and #bitcoin".  I suspect he would've preferred to have been paid half that in bitcoin back in September, October, or November given the increase in fiat price since then.
