In my opinion, this is one of the saddest events of this year. This is a great loss for the entire community and for everyone who knew him.

Lauda made me completely reconsider my attitude to the forum for which I am infinitely grateful to her. And the comments I read today gave me the idea of the impeccability of our community, which was organic and progressed to the point that the value of all material aspects becomes secondary to the integrity of the community.

And if someone issued collectible coins in memory of Lauda, I would be glad to get a few....

snip

Just want to add from what theymos said about this (This is confirmed if "Lauda" account won't be active anymore in the future)

It's sad to see you go. Although there were various small bits of drama and conflict, you've been one of the most active and dedicated members of the community over the course of several years. (And if there's no conflict, then probably nothing is actually being accomplished.) I hope that you're not in any actual danger, and I hope that you will be successful in whatever you choose for your future.

I will request that theymos ban the "Lauda" account (u=101872)

Done. Lauda is banned in the same way as satoshi, such that it isn't possible to even log into the account anymore.

And if someone issued collectible coins in memory of Lauda, I would be glad to get a few....

I regret to say in public sunshine that unforeseen pressures in the shadows leave me no option but to leave the forum permanently.

After this post, "Lauda" will cease to exist. By that I mean: The faceless virtual persona named "Lauda", who exists only in cypherspace, will become detached from its "soul", and left as an empty shell. "Lauda" has abruptly reached end-of-life. Of course, this is the inverse of the usual way of thinking. There are hereby multiple layers of abstract indirection, which you can probably follow if you know C/C++ programming and/or witchcraft.

The word "soul" usually refers to an invisible entity from an immaterial plane of existence; if you believe in such a thing, consult your friendly local cult for mystical details. Such a soul animates a "body" on the material plane. But what of a pseudonymous virtual persona? It is a disembodied entity on an immaterial plane of the mind, which is animated by a body as its "soul". If it loses its body, it dies, even if the body lives on. Our body is quite well; but it wishes to depart from the virtual plane that has consumed over 7 years of its life, and much of its energies.

It has been a wild forum life, - or perhaps, nine forum lives involving everything from the dark arts of moderation, to being burnt at the stake several times. (I got better.) Thanks to my forum friends, fans, and cult votaries.

Now to protect the community in case of a hack, I will request that theymos ban the "Lauda" account (u=101872); and this post is to be taken as a notice that any future posts or PMs by this account are certain to be the product of an impersonator - a blackhat using malicious necromancy to animate a zombie. After that point, do not deal with my account even if it produces messages signed by Bitcoin or PGP keys. If the account logs in, you should assume that it is compromised. If it produces a signed message, you should assume that the keys are compromised. Of course, if Faketoshi appears in a catbat mask and claims to be me, then you should assume that it is a fraud.

Hereby I want to emphasize that it will never again be possible to contact "Lauda", just as it is impossible to contact the dead. I do not want any chance of an impersonation scam in a name that many people trust.

Over the years people have even trusted "Lauda" with different sums of Bitcoin. I have one of the highest name-recognition accounts on the forum. This places on me a responsibility. It is not to feed my strong ego that I say, it is a valuable account with a high reputation - a trust that people place in my unseen body, through the name of "Lauda". If I cease to be "Lauda" then according to my well-known principles, I must affirmatively prevent anybody else from using this name and forum account ever again.

One must always have a contingency plan, mine was carefully considered but sometimes much smarter players get involved. There is nothing further to discuss. A cat comes and goes as it pleases, - even between different planes of existence. I leave you with a last final message that you must never forget:

Not cool leading us to believe CH/TOAA/and his 50 other alts were gone for good..even if for a split second ! Smiley

Cobra handing over btalk domain was a biggie this year.

Lastly we lost the biggest troller of trolls in the one and only Tman..not to mention his Shakespearean word smithing..I miss the days where posts were coming in hot and heavy to Loyce's Tman's quotes thread.

Yes of course the previously banned financially motivated self serving  plagiarist is sad that shit posting proven scammer and self confessed trust abusing troll tman is not posting regularly.

Cryptohunter aka the true legend is of course enjoying the high life he deserves for ensuring bitcoin was never knocked from top spot on cmc, forcing a 2 billion dollar air drop compensation offer to the entire forum fighting the largest scams and making multiple millionaires from his selfless tips and the only member to constantly tackle any and all DT1 scammers and scammer supporters. That and always pushing for the fairest and most transparent standards to be upheld in every project he was part of and the entire forum. However there are his friends and admirers that will continue his great work here I expect.

Only 50 alts?

Even mentioning someone like CH and that peasant dreg scammer tman in the same post should be a banning offense.

Had NO clue you’d say this!  It must hurt that the evil financially motivated plagiarist ( which for the 50th time you can see in my topics I used those funds for charity) is welcomed in this community and can guarantee every mod, Theymos, or anyone with half a brain would love to see you gone.

Oh btw people can see you taking to yourself ( again)  ..just a heads up, i.e. seek medical attention.  You won’t, you’ll just keep writhing novels from a hoard of Alts.  How many more times do you think we will have this same convo btw? I think we may be around 10 or so right now, roughly right?  You’re the best CH!, love ya bud!

Ive never heard of allergy to coconut specifically where as nuts was recognised well 25 years ago when I worked in a food factory, a rarer allergy type is probably more dangerous if its common use  and outside of foods still a problem, very common as doormats and coconut oil is a thing used as alternate to palm oil. Do you keep a vial of epinephrine now just in case?

I found this thread via Charles-Tim, some good info there.

I'll nominate the March selloff as pretty crazy, multi year volatility stretch past 200 week averages.   Doesnt and shouldn't happen every year but I do believe we have generational upsets still ahead of us in economics and BTC will be part of that.   US election year of course and its almost 30 years since a mid term upset occurred on the Presidential job so surely this possibility would have to be included in any extreme list.

Anyway to the OP

Terrible to have any allergies that deprive you of the pleasures those without such defects enjoy carefree. Those people that come out to a fine restaurant and insist upon speaking personally and loudly to the chef about their allergies should be thrown out ( unless super good to look at) . Spoiling the experience for those that are fit and healthy. Also these saffron and coconut milk face masks are wonderful for my skin. It is upsetting to hear you're going through all of this turmoil.

Now, with all that boring irrelevant stuff out of the way..2020 was simply uneventful for the forum. It was strange for cobra to hand over bct domain but since he didnt step in or intend to step in to correct the terrible DT and merit sham then it is not a huge difference for the end user.
The forum is still very useful to members if not as useful as before. It will likely remain as is until the next btc ATH.

I'm expecting the big fireworks to kick off sometime next month in the US.

Stay well xldiv I am very pleased you've returned even if in an even more dilapidated state than before. I was just joking above. Sorry to hear of your recent woes. God works in mysterious ways. Hence why I make sure to ensure I'm always doing my best to be fair and righteous.

I'm watching the situation with the teacher in Paris. I wonder if this is going to spark a movement or will fizzle out and be forgotten next week. Well, we still have a couple of months left of 2020 perhaps saving the best until last.

When did those allergies start surfacing?

The first I noticed was October 2019 with nuisance hives. Thought it was pollen or hazelnuts initially. Progressively got worse since lockdown. Managed with medication but led to a couple of ER visits since then due to mouth and tongue swelling up. Didn't really get a proper diagnosis till about early September. Was hard to get a doctors appointment in person due to Covid restrictions.

Initially it was so hard to figure out what it was. But they managed to detect it with a blood test. Unfortunately my allergy also includes coconut - which I like to eat but didn't eat much of - but is also used in about 99% of laundry detergents and a large majority of soap. Half the time they don't even have the full list on the packaging. I'd wake up in the morning with half my face swollen and the anti-histamines were making me so lethargic that I was sleeping more than the cat.

It would be nice to compile a list of crazy things that happened to bitcoin and bitcointalk this year:

Look like you have forget to mention the pandemic which is the main thing which happened this year. I understand you are talking more specifically to the bitcoin related events but pandemic had an overall effect on bitcoin also.
Bitcoin Halving was the major event this year and the bitcoin rally was massively effected by the covid-19 pandemic.

I sort of lamely mentioned it as a world lockdown but I suppose it IS the the most substantial crazy thing to happen this year. Thanks. I will add it.

Yeah, it's really surprising to find out about certain ingredients being in products that you've never thought of. Most people don't realize it until they or someone close to them develops an intolerance or a strong allergy to something and then they have to check the ingredients all the time in every product (speaking from personal experience).

2020 is a crazy time. I was absent too from crypto for a big part of it and I'm trying to come back and become more engaged with bitcointalk. I missed quite a few things. For example, I just found out all that stuff about Craig Steven Wright from you right now  Cheesy

Welcome back xtraelv, +1 to everything in your thread. The year has been crazy, but notwithstanding, I find it very interesting that some big companies have invested in Bitcoin, holding it as their reserve asset, increasing btc adoption via that process. Companies like MicroStrategy, Square etc, check it here: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/--5280947, fillippone is helping forum users keep track with the big news in that thread.

And also with the pandemic and the 'fall' of traditional economics/currencies, not surprising the Economics and P&S board is quite active with topics on the issue, stimulus bonuses, vaccines etc and lest I forget the forthcoming U.S. elections, the year could still have a good/dramatic end Cool.

2020 has been such an interesting year, unfolding to the society and Cryptocurrency enthusiast several unexpected packages of varying kinds. One of the most significant package or event in history though, I won't term it as crazy is the Bitcoin halving which occured in the month of may 11th, 2020 where Bitcoin was halved from 12.5 - 6.25 as miners continue to mine more bitcoins for circulation. It is the third according to history and it only makes the mining game more tough and it is a good thing for Bitcoin.

Another interesting one is

1. Bitcoin Hits $11.6K for First Time in a Year as Traders Expect $15K.
https://cointelegraph.com/news/bitcoin-price-hits-116k-for-first-time-in-a-year-as-traders-foresee-15k/amp
With Bitcoin reminding the world of it's high volatility amongst every other Altcoin, proving itself once more as the highest and reference point for Alts. Living a lot of people in wonder and anticipation for on what comes next which is highly unpredictable though not impossible.

Well I guess you've missed the recent issue whereas the Chipmixer Campaign opened a spot in which some opened up their opinions while some insists that people are just wasting their time. Better read CMixer's recent replies and you'll see how crazy the pandemic made us. LOL. I've tried joining it (TRIED) yet I don't know why some users calls those applicants like "the users that wouldn't be accepted". Is it really an issue if a user aren't that capable enough to fulfill DarkStar_ 's standards? Rofl. I also couldn't understand why such gang matters in this forum. I've been here for years but I never fought anyone and rather respect their decisions. Yes, gangs can be powerful. But damn, looking at the bright side, those gangs contributed a lot in this forum, regardless of what signature they are wearing.

Also, I guess you've missed the time when Polar91 was caught having multiple (I mean really MULTIPLE to atleast more than you can imagine) accounts by Bitcoin_Arena. See it for yourself. (https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.54171866)

We lost Bruno this year, it's huge loss for Bitcointalk. But death is inevitable thing and we all are going to die one day...

Hey xtraelv!  I was actually wondering where you'd disappeared to the other day, as I hadn't seen you posting for quite some time but had come across a thread you'd posted in a while back....anyway, glad you're healthy and are getting along in this new and crazy world we all live in now.

Cryptohunter disappeared.
Yeah, that one is definitely not true.  The cryptohunter account hasn't been active, but he's been creating alt accounts to keep his insane rants going.  There was a quiet period that lasted at least two months (IIRC) in which there were no drama threads being created in Reputation or Meta--and then, all of a sudden, he started back up again.

The price of bitcoin might be higher than the last time you were on the forum, though I don't have a good memory for times and prices and don't know exactly when your hiatus began.  With all the other crazy shit that's been happening, at least bitcoin's doing well.

I have lurked a bit over time so while my regular posts were absent I have tried to keep up with the things that were going on. Just missed the details.

The misinformation about CH I gleaned from here:

4. TOAA (cryptohunter) Gang - a 1-man-army led by cryptohunter who courageously fought since ancient times against almost all the other gangs mentioned here, looking for a chunk of their pie. Driven by The Dark Side of the Force, he managed to fight for years, although he suffered a lot from a serious and incurable mental disease. Being overwhelmed, he disguised himself since 2019 as The-One-Above-All, maliciously called as The-Ass-Above-All, but the dexterous supreme leader of the Mods Gang exposed him. After suffering severe injuries, he fled the battlefield in January 2020, after almost 7 years of ferocious fights. Also known for deep self-respect, as he used manorial plural when he was talking about himself, saying "we" instead of "I". Allegedly, as the supreme leader of the Merit Cycling Club suspects (among many others), the great fighter returned once again inside the arena, as truth or dare. In case this will be proven, I'll move this gang in the upper sections, among the most reputable gangs.

Bitcoin has been seeing a bit of a surge but for the last few years I have come to the realization that I'm a better Hodler than trader. Unless I desperately need it - it can stay put in the cold wallets.

I've been intermittently absent from this forum for some time this year. Partly due to the crazy stuff this year has brought.

Discovered I suddenly have a nut allergy (Not metaphorically).  Which has resulted in interesting trips to the ER.
There results usually are funny but concerning rapid swelling of my face and limbs - until we pinned down the cause.
You'd be surprised how many products contain nut products. i.e. laundry detergent, soap and foods.

I traveled extensively internationally just before the world lockdown. Now I'm locked in my own country as there are few flights out.

Suddenly found my skills were in demand as an essential service in an industry I've never worked in before.

It would be nice to compile a list of crazy things that happened to bitcoin and bitcointalk this year:

Bitcoin and Crypto already have a tendency to be crazier than fiction.

Covid-19, Corona virus, China Virus, Company killer.... it has many names. Many opinions about it and many conspiracy theories about its origin (man made versus man ate bat)
It has us all locked down to a certain extend. Some countries more than others. Where I am it is fortunately almost back to normal except for the free hand sanitizer everywhere. (Why didn't we have that before for all the other yucky germs)

John McAfee (McShill) backed out of the dickening* and got arrested in Spain awaiting extradition for Tax evasion and on SEC charges.

Craig Steven Wright lawsuit "reveals" that according to Craig he was working with an MI5 agent and the NSA, a jawbreaker mercenary, cheated on his wife, has Autism, got hacked more times than anyone, is a world leading IT security professional, had to pay millions in penalties to the Australian Tax office resulting in his companies being place into liquidation, was shot twice in South America and is a trained ninja,

Craig reveals a list of bitcoin addresses he claims to own (which was delivered by his "bonded courier" that turned out not to be a bonded courier - via his wife)  of which 144 of them promptly signed a message stating "Craig Steven Wright is a liar and a fraud. He doesn't have the keys used to sign this message. The Lightning Network is a significant achievement. However, we need to continue work on improving on-chain capacity.
