I think the main thing that Tesla got is a lot of hype around this news and Elon Musk posts. Now it doesn't matter whether it is or not because he changed his shoes in the air, declared bitcoin to be "dirty and not environmentally friendly" and has now canceled this option for trading with bitcoin. That's all there is to know about this company and its owner. After such manipulations, I would declare a boycott of everything that this person does and sells and would never deal with him, however, as I see it, this did not particularly affect his "reputation", which is shocking in my opinion the most.

In an investor note, an analyst named Daniel Ives of private investment firm Wedbush Securities has said that Tesla, the American electric car giant, has made a massive profit of US$1-billion after changing its company guidelines and buying US$1.5-billion worth of Bitcoin.

Right now, at the price that Bitcoin is trading, their initial investment must be showing a massive loss. I hope that Tesla also buys Bitcoin right now in the dip  Tongue . However, this seems highly unlikely given the public statement that Elon has made.

It is good news for him and all of the bitcoin holders because this year the bitcoin has pumped more than the next year and it has pumped more than 3 times before and it is going to achieve the record of $60000 cross record hope the price will go up and enjoy by earning profit.

@Sithara007. Tesla could do this, Microstrategy’s Michael Saylor is presently doing it and leveraged traders are in a similar situation, however, doing it would be taking in more risk on you and the investment. If bitcoin went from $3000 to more than $56k because of loaned funds and leveraged trading then it would only take some time before a deleveraging event occurs.

@stomachgrowls. I reckon you really want Elon Musk to become bald from stress hehehe. Tesla’s investment capabilities do no exceed more than $15billion hehehe. Tesla has never had a full year of profit in the car business except on 2020.

Also, they are certainly not investing in bitcoin because they want adoption. Would that make their move on bitcoin less serious?

What is the point in having a market cap of >$600 billion, if they can't get 2% of this as a loan? I am not sure about this, but what about issuing some extra shares, for the purpose of fund raising (similar to what the federal reserve does, printing banknotes whenever they need cash)? They just need approval from majority of the share holders to do this, right? Or is there any other complication?

There's no indication that Tesla did sold his Bitcoin to obtain such profit but technically, if you put it like Tesla did bought and earned some profit if sold according to the market price of Bitcoin. It's all just an speculation since Elon didn't tweet something that they did sold their Bitcoin investment.

But he could actually profit a billion dollars if Elon Musk sell those Bitcoin but that would make the market drop so fast as buyers tend to allocate all of those Bitcoin from Elon Musk wallet alone. Does the people really want that to happen during this bullish market?

After the purchase of bitcoins by Tesla, the rate did not rise as high as expected.  According to preliminary forecasts, Bitcoin was supposed to rise to $ 100,000, but everything is ahead and having invested $ 1.5 billion, Elon Musk will certainly receive 3 or even 5 times more

This is just ridiculous. If there was any indication like this, then Tesla would have invested $15 billion instead of $1.5 billion in Bitcoin. Since the start of 2021, Bitcoin has risen by 72%. Telsa has made a profit of around 60% to 70%. Everyone is happy with this, with the exception of some sceptics who would blame Bitcoin for each and every bad thing in this world. And I am 100% sure that Elon Musk and the rest of the Tesla shareholders are more than happy with the $1 billion profit from Telsa which they received so far.
I believe on just putting that 1.5b by Tesla in bitcoin was just a testing amount for them to observe on how those investment will really be turning out neither on the positive or negative side.

When it comes to investment capabilities then they can put much more than with 15 billion if they do like to.It is just they are surely still on testing phase and who knows that they might be
putting up even more on upcoming months to come.

If they are really that serious with adoption then they wouldnt care on what price they would really be entering or buying in the market.Profit is just a bonus but to know
that everything here is a business then of course its undeniable that they will be maximizing out all the possible profits that they could make.

Paper gains and now in paper losses.
Elon Musk lost $27 billion in a rough week for the electric vehicle sector

It's just a speculation, a guess that we don't know might happen or not.

I shake my head. It is very arguable if Tesla made a profit of $1 billion after buying bitcoin because Tesla has not sold the bitcoin. What would it be on March of 2022? A loss of $1 billion? This is certainly only hype and larp hehe.

Unrealized profits get reflected in the balance sheet of the companies, so I don't think that there is anything wrong in mentioning it. Afterall, Tesla is a publicly listed company and therefore they need to inform the share holders about the assets that the company own from time to time. Don't know whether the prices will go down in March or not, but Tesla made an excellent move in January, and I am sure that when they actually book their profits, the amount will be much greater than $1 billion.

Agreed, there is nothing wrong in mentioning it, however, it should also be mentioned that it is only profit on paper. I speculate that you also have experienced losses in bitcoin? The writer of the article should not be very excited. The article is hyping a profit that has not been realized and clickbait.

Ok, for Tesla to make a 1 Billion Dollar profit on a $1.5 Billion Dollar investment ...the price almost had to double and that did not happen. I think with the current price fluctuation over the last weeks...it might be possible if they are constantly selling high and buying back in on the Dip... but we will not know that. (If that is what they are doing, then the price volatility is explained)  Cheesy

We have seen several large price spikes and then a dip and a recovery... so it is a traders paradise at the moment. (Buying 1 bitcoin at $47 000 today and selling it at say $51 000 within the next 24 hours ..is not unlikely in this market)  Roll Eyes

He went on to say that the electric company is going to make “more from its Bitcoin investments than profits from selling its electric vehicle cars in all of 2020.”

The analyst believes that Tesla’s Bitcoin move is likely to affect the investment decisions of many other public companies. He said:

“While the Bitcoin investment is a side show for Tesla, it’s clearly been a good initial investment and a trend we expect could have a ripple impact for other public companies over the next 12 to 18 months.”
