Lol this is quite funny  and dumb AF Grin Grin

On the contrary, this is a good selling point why bitcoin needs to be adopted! Unlike fiat ATMs, going with Bitcoin ATMs means such crimes will be come history as ATMs will nolonger hold funds and have criminals pulling out ATMs out of walls or trying what these crypto  thieves did..Hope crypto ambassadors use this to convince the world why we need to adopt these cryprocurrencies into our daily lives.

We are in 2022 and some people think they  can steal bitcoin inside of  a bitcoin ATM.
They can't imagine 1 piece of Bitcoin being valued at $ 27,000, robbers might think Bitcoin ATMs have money inside like metal pennies that can be taken and sold on the market, that's the stupidest robber in this world.

Don't they think Bitcoin is like a cloud, it can be seen and can't be held, how do they think that robbing Bitcoin ATMs can make money for them, this is an act of robbery that makes no sense, they are really stupid.

It seems they should be given training on Bitcoin before launching the action to rob the ATM.

That's pretty hilarious. But are we sure it wasn't the kind of atm that accepts cash, and it wasn't the cash that they were really after?

For those thieves to even attempt to steal bitcoin from a bitcoin ATM in the first place, I think they lack even the most fundamental understanding of cryptocurrency. People with a basic understanding of crypto wouldn't take such action because they would realize that bitcoin is a digital currency and that even if they were to steal it from a bitcoin ATM, the stolen bitcoin could be tracked and its transactions monitored.

The suspects fired several shots at one of the Bitcoin ATMs  , damaged totally the ATM

They probably asked the ATM to surrender, but probably the machine didn't understand that command Grin
That would be probably funny asking ATM to surrender on what command. Like bitcoin is physical cash no longer digital currency we all know again.

We should have been more careful about the theft of Bitcoin by third parties.

The theft can be considered as a threat. That it's not for people who already have enough coins and just get rid of those lost coins. As far as I know, there are still people who will steal bitcoins because people already lost their coins so they have less chance to steal bitcoins.

To get Bitcoin out of that ATM, you had to find some exchanges that allow you to use bitcoins, while some of the exchanges offer you Bitcoin for free.

If you are not sure about the exchanges and bitcoin wallets, then it's better to search for a trusted wallet or a fake bitcoin wallet.

It all depends on what type of Bitcoin ATM we are talking about... right.

"The two types of Bitcoin ATMs or BTMs are: Unidirectional Machines: One-way transactions machines that support either the buying or selling of cryptocurrency. Bi-directional Machines: Two-way machines that support both the buying and selling of cryptocurrency." - Source : https://cointelegraph.com/bitcoin-for-beginners/bitcoin-atms-a-beginners-guide-to-bitcoin-teller-machines

In theory.... a Bi-directional Machine might contain cash that was deposited for Bitcoin in return... and they might be after the cash... and not after the bitcoins.  Wink

A Bitcoin ATM can contain fiat that will be handed to those selling bitcoins or can contain fiat paid by those buying bitcoins. So no matter the type or direction, fiat can still be there, at least in theory.

But if the vault could be detached from the heavy ATM machine (105kg or 156kg), there's possibly the thief could steal the banknotes along with the vault.

The word of the day is lead, or any other dense metal.
In my limited knowledge I have seen the safe that holds the bills in some things have hundreds of pounds of lead bars on the bottom. By themselves they don't weigh that much, but 2 layers of them make it just about impossible to take it out without opening it and taking the bars out 1st. Unless you look like Lou Ferrigno in his prime.

BTAMs, ATMs, vending machines, anything with cash is going to be a target. Operators of these machines just have to figure out the balance of security vs. making it more secure but having to deal with the obsticales that making it more secure creates.

Good, I hope police can catch all of the six armed men and then put them into jail, they're get nothing but they're taking a big risk lol. However it's just funny how 13 years old since Bitcoin was invented, they didn't even search if Bitcoin is tangible asset or intangible asset. This just prove there's many people still not using google to conduct a deeper research, maybe this is why many newbies still got scammed until now.

but the suspects failed to steal any bitcoin inside of the ATM.
How could they succeed when there's no Bitcoin in it Grin... But on a serious note, are you one of its employees [I checked most of the top crypto news sites and none of them have covered it yet]?

This wasn't the first time and unfortunately, it's not going to be the last.

From what I can see in the pictures, two of them are "BATMThree model [by general bytes]" and it looks like the owner went with the code lock upgrade for the safe vault so I expect all of the banknotes are intact.

Any chance they were actually targeting the fiat that should be in the ATMs?

It is quite a certainty that they were targetting anything they can find that has value in those ATMs. However, it would also be quite funny if those armed men thought that bitcoins are real coins and that they can steal them physically hehehehe.

That was my first thought as well.

Most ATMs have cash inside and there are even sites where you can check how much they have, so that you don't go to withdraw from an almost empty one. A local physical exchange operator that I used to go to allows you to send them a transaction and choose the ATM you want to withdraw from and updates the cash status of each ATM at least once per hour.

I've heard in the news that there's a wave of ATM attacks and the most of them occurs in Germany and The Netherlands, but unlike these guys, the EU gang uses explosives and targets fiat ATMs.
