Maelstrom Launches Bitcoin Grant Program Aiming to Support Developers

The Arthur Hayes-linked Bitcoin-supporting entity Maelstorm has launched a grant program to assist with the technical development of Bitcoin. Developers who wish to receive grants—ranging from $50,000 to $150,000 each—must submit applications on or before August 25.

Enhancing Bitcoin’s Resilience and Censorship Resistance

Maelstorm, an entity focused on Bitcoin’s technical development, has launched a Bitcoin grant program to assist with the technical development of the blockchain network. The program also aims to support developers whose work enhances the resilience, censorship resistance, and privacy characteristics of the top crypto asset.

In a statement accompanying the program launch, Maelstorm expressed its commitment to giving back to open-source developers whose work indirectly sustains companies in the crypto space. The firm believes it is logical to donate to Bitcoin developers who have not previously raised funds for the network’s technical development.

“We have the capacity to support Bitcoin developers and are committed to an open and transparent grant process,” Maelstorm said.

According to the statement, developers who wish to receive grants—ranging from $50,000 to $150,000 per developer—must submit applications on or before August 25. The statement also notes that candidates for the program should expect to be interviewed by members of the review committee before the grants are issued. Bitmex co-founder and former CEO Arthur Hayes and Jonathan Bier, the Grant Program Administrators, serve as members of the review committee.

Successful candidates are expected to contribute to Bitcoin’s technical development, either through pull requests or by reviewing work for the Bitcoin Core software project. Maelstorm anticipates awarding the grants in Q3 and Q4 of 2024.
