Ark Labs Raises $2.5M to Simplify Bitcoin Payments
Ark Labs announced on Thursday the successful closure of a $2.5 million pre-seed funding round led by venture capitalist Tim Draper and Draper Associates, with additional contributions from Fulgur Ventures, Axiom Capital, and angel investor Stephen Cole.
Draper highlighted Ark’s transformative potential, stating:
“Ark’s architecture allows for seamless bitcoin payments, in a way that stays true to its core principles of decentralization and self-custody,” Draper noted.
Established in May, Ark Labs is on a mission to revolutionize bitcoin payments through the development and implementation of the Ark protocol. This protocol addresses the complexities of bitcoin transactions by leveraging Ark Service Providers (ASPs), which allow users to send and receive payments without the need for deep technical knowledge or custodial solutions. By simplifying the user experience, Ark Labs aims to make bitcoin a more practical and accessible medium for everyday global commerce.
The funding will drive the advancement of the Ark protocol, support team expansion, and enable strategic partnerships with merchants and developers, the company explained. Positioned to complement the Lightning Network, Ark will focus on consumer-facing payments, while Lightning targets enterprise-level applications. Additionally, the funds will support the development of products like Ark Node, a bitcoin wallet set for beta release in September.
