We should not forget that politicians have a tendency to promise the moon and beyond in order to get elected somewhere, then have to settle into the reality of having to work with a bunch of bureaucrats who make it hard to get anything done, not to mention the politicians turning on their own campaign promises. I don't see why people should buy into such promises anymore.

In Russia, after the elections, politicians forget about promises Smiley

In the United States as well (unless they are negative promises) Wink
Promises must be reasonable. Does Ross Ulbricht stand a chance of pardon?
It seems that the US authorities want him to die in prison, so he received almost 3 life sentences.
I don't think an American President will give a pardon to a drug dealer and a man who has committed many crimes in the US.

Cryptocurrency in the US elections will be a new trend.

Exclusive: Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Says He Doesn’t Want ‘Anti-Crypto’ People on the SEC
"At most, they should be neutral, and we should have people on there who are from the crypto community," he said.

MIAMI, Florida – Presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. delivered a keynote address at the Bitcoin 2023 conference in Miami this year, in which he laid out an ambitious Bitcoin agenda that included defending the self-custody of Bitcoin and ensuring that the U.S. remains the global hub of cryptocurrency. He also said he would prevent Bitcoin from being regulated as a security and consider pardoning Silk Road founder Ross Ulbricht.

You cannot believe one thing that comes out of the mouth of a politician, they will promise you the world before the election, but once they are voted in, they forget all about that.  Roll Eyes

It's not just that they will forget, but they will do exactly the opposite of what they promised. It is fascinating that in most countries there are elections for the parliament or the president every 4 or 5 years, and that at that time the average person mostly forgets about all the promises made by politicians, and even less evaluates how many of these promises have been implemented.

What everyone seems to forget is that the presidents in the US change, but the politics are always the same. No US president can publicly be pro-Bitcoin, because it would mean that he is actually against what the majority of Americans support, which is the US dollar. DeSantis is therefore completely irrelevant in the context of Bitcoin, like all his predecessors.

We have heard all of that before, just go back to the run up to the election where Trump was elected. One of the senators (a women) were saying all the right things, before the election and then when Trump were elected, he turned against Bitcoin and she kept quite.. because the money was too good for her to fight for Bitcoin.  Roll Eyes

Ron DeSantis is the likely Republican nominee. If Donald Trump does not participate in the elections, then the chances of Ron DeSantis will greatly increase. But there is still more than a year before the election, and with the continuation of such vigorous activity, Ron DeSantis will be one of the main presidential candidates.

I don't understand Americans how they can vote for old people who either sleep or sometimes don't understand where they are.

“The current regime, clearly, they have it out for Bitcoin,” DeSantis said. “And if it continues for another four years, they’ll probably end up killing it.”

He is exaggerating greatly. Sadly I expect one of the things his campaign will show is how few people actually care about bitcoin. And it will not be a correct measure for that either since, as I noticed he is exaggerating, other bitcoiners may see that too and might not care about a pretty much lost cause (i.e. DeSantis).

But I was proven wrong in my predictions in other US presidential campaigns too, so take my words with a pinch of salt, just for case the reality will prove me wrong and will make me an interestingly nice surprise. Cheesy

I think it would be more accurate to say “And if it continues for another four years, they’ll probably end up ATTEMPTING TO killing it.”  I think bitcoin is passed the tipping point and while it might be more difficult if they tried to kill it, it wouldn't succeed.

He is right about the desires of many the current politicians around the world to try to kill bitcoin because it interferes with their inflation loving agenda of Keynesian policy which allow them to steal from people's savings without the people being aware of it much of the time.  Until inflation hits and then they attempt to blame everything except their own policies for the issues.  Likewise, he is right about the wishes of authoritarians around the world to stop bitcoin because it robs them of victims by allowing people to protect themselves from insane policies.

DeSantis has a financial war chest twice the size of Trump per an article I saw last month so I wouldn't count him out.  (https://www.politico.com/news/2023/04/28/desantis-trump-money-00094205 )

These are beautiful words and an ingenious election campaign, maybe not everyone uses Bitcoin, but everyone loves freedom.
I don't know if this is just campaign promises, but from the look of things and the reality at hand, Desantis was right in his views on Bitcoin regulation and policies, since the government already knows the fact that Bitcoin cannot be regulated, there will design a policy framework that will undermind bitcoin adoption and thereafter making Bitcoin lose it value or killing people desire to own and use bitcoin in the future.

The Florida governor portrayed his support of Bitcoin as a matter of civil liberties, and attempts to restrict crypto by his opponents as government overreach.

“You have every right to do Bitcoin,” DeSantis said. “The only reason these people in Washington don’t like it is because they don’t control it.”
“Bitcoin represents a threat to them,” DeSantis said. “They’re trying to regulate it out of existence.”

DeSantis pledged that if Congress ever tried to institute a ban on “things like Bitcoin” by passing new legislation, that he would vehemently oppose it. He also said that the current administration could snuff out Bitcoin if Biden is reelected.

“The current regime, clearly, they have it out for Bitcoin,” DeSantis said. “And if it continues for another four years, they’ll probably end up killing it.”
