I'm quite tempted to make an offer since I live 5 minutes away from a DC metro station...

Too late.  I had to redeem it this morning as I won the Erupter blade auction.

I still have more Casascius coins if you are ever interested.  Just PM me sometime.

Go pick it up for 25BTC he is just going to rip the hologram off of it anyways. Then shoot me a PM and I will give you 26 for it. You make a BTC just for going to get it and sending it to me because he doesn't want to deal with the post office.

Sounds like a lot of ifs. Good luck man. I'd hate to see you destroy one of these coins.

Shipping to Ohio can be done overnight? I don't see an issue, good luck though.

If I am accepted as one of the purchasers, I would need to send friedcat the coins in a very short amount of time, or risk being labeled a "scammer."  I don't want that, and I don't want to add any elements of uncertainty.  What if it gets lost and I have to deal with an insurance claim?  Even if I ship it to you overnight and it gets to you, I am assuming you would want escrow, which I can't blame you for, which also adds an element of uncertainty which could delay my funds availability.  What if you simply don't check your e-mail for a day or two and fail to notify the escrow person that you received it in a timely manner?  What if he takes his sweet time as well?  Time is critical, so I am sticking with local pickup.

To top it off, you are offering face value, which is the value I can get by simply removing the sticker Smiley  What incentive is there for me to go through with this deal at all?  The terms are all in your favor, and you bear none of the risk.  I also see you resell Casascius coins, which may explain that part, but anyway, thanks for the interest.

28 seems a bit steep, considering that one could buy from Mike Caldwell himself (i.e. "Casascius")  for 26.5 btc, delivered...at least until they last.

28 is simply the asking price.  I will entertain lower offers.  Keep in mind that ordering from Casascius can take weeks to receive, and this is available right now.  But yah, I'd rather sell it for less than my asking price than have to rip the back of it off and destroy such fine craftsmanship.

Would you consider face value and shipping it to Ohio?
.

I would not, for the reasons stated in the OP.
