25 things you may have forgotten about the internet
There isn't a single thing I've forgotten about the internet.
From the moment I clicked on a beautiful blue link for the first time, I remember it all.  Cheesy

Now I need to go back in time and buy some Yahoo stock.

Geocities

At one point, GeoCities was the fifth most popular site on the web. Tackler7 remembers being impressed by the possibilities for his own website:

GeoCities was a particular favourite. I marvelled at the sheer range of interests and the differences in design - from the brilliant to the gaudy rubbish. I decided that I wanted one and with the aide of a free piece of software I built my first site - for my office five-a-side team. I remember being really proud in showing it off for the first time and it was rated as site of the month in a computer magazine, which make my day.

I don't recall ever making a GeoCities site, but I sure came close.

Until yesterday I have forgotten than internet is not global thing, and there's a lot of geofencing going on.

Heard that new episode of Rick and Morty had come out. Made myself a hot meal, opened a beer can, and went to youtube for a good watch. But it turns out "it's not available in my country".

How the fuck something, that's being put out as a free thing on youtube is not available to me?

Luckily - torrent downloaded before my meal became cold.

Seriosly.

Fuck.

I had dial-up until 2007. I can still hear that sound.  Sad

I also switched pretty late, thank goodness those days are over.

p.s. Irishman, finally realised no one here likes posting on self-moderated topics? Tongue

My bad, forgot to self moderate it. Will do next time, thanks for reminding me.

I think we can all agree that it's a good thing most of these things on this list are forgotten, especially dialup.

p.s. Irishman, finally realised no one here likes posting on self-moderated topics? Tongue
