I've got the same card. MSI 280x gaming edition... Had it for just over a month now.

I also had the same problem! Google says quite a few people have been having problems with the fans although I seem to have fixed mine for the time being.

You can unscrew the fan from the heatsink with 3 screws behind the fan and then, holding the fan at 90 degress you can then take the fan off the fan base. You need to apply a little bit of force to get it off. The 1st time I done it i snapped off one of the fan fins  Undecided  SO BE VERY CAREFUL!! I then applied a couple of drops of 3 in 1 oil (has to be the blue one apparently) to the centre and the rim of the actual fan. I clipped it back in and the fans seem to be working better then ever! I superglued the snapped fin back in place, although that's probably not recommended it seems strong :-/

I also applied some new thermal paste and it's cooler then before too.

If you don't want to risk it and don't mind losing precious mining time then you should probably sent it back to be replaced. I am a little upset that I probably invalidated the warranty trying to fix their cheap fans.

Although it's working OK at the moment I would not buy this card again for mining.

It seems that front(left) Fan is dieing and needs more voltage to sustain RPM. For now I Just swapped this card to cooler position, nothing more than I could do I suppose...

This is 2nd out of three MSI cards that dies/starts to die on me. Bad luck or poor quality...

Hey, thanks for the answer. I will visit my rig today and check for dust, though this one hashes for just 1 month.

I also plan to flip bios switch, uninstall drivers and chnge slots. Issue is very strange.

Bump.

I have 2 other cards in a rig, 1 MSi and 1 Gigabyte, both of them operate normally. The card at fault has 50% less rpm than the MSI operating fine, for example 1800 vs 900 RPM at the same percentage set.
I also have a confirmation that both fans on the card are spinning. Today I have also observed that on 100% setting the fan can vary from 2100 to 2900 RPM.

Please someone help with any ideas.

Hey,

Today I realized one of my cards is getting hotter than usual, 75 instead of the target 70 degrees. Did some checking and fan was already operating at 85%, but instead of having 3k RPMS it had like 1500.
I have increased the maximum to 100% in cgminer and now have 71 with 2500 RPM. The card with problem is plugged to main 16x PCI-e, MSI 280x.

Any ideas whats causing lower RPMS? Please note it is not a visual/sensor error as temperature in fact did go up.
