I was using Google Authenticator as an extension on Chrome but is now not working. I have key and password but I am not being asked for it.
Why not just settle with the mobile version of Google authenticator because I have been using that, and I have not had any issue whatsoever. You install it afresh and everything should be back to normal. Before I was using the mobile messages via service providers but because the block such messages from entering my mobile phone, I had to choose Google authenticator which has proven to be a handy tool for a while. I have not used the extension version of it.

Both Google Auth and Authy are reliable and legit. Just make sure you download them from a reliable source or app store.

I use the 1Password authenticator. The codes are generated within the app and they have strong security protocols protecting the app itself. Using 1Password means I don't have to use multiple apps for password storage and 2FA. They are integrated in the app and I must say it's nicely designed.

The good thing about 1Password is that if you replace or lose your phone, you can reinstall it on another phone. Authy is nice too but SMS fraud and SIM cloning are a real risk these days so I stopped using it. Plus there was a time when I was travelling and accidentally bricked my phone, I bought a new phone and couldn't activate the app. The phone number linked to the app wasn't roaming so I couldn't get the verification code! 8 days of inconvenience.

1Password is also web based which means you can access your passwords and 2FA on any (safe) computer.

As far as I know Google Authenticator (the legit one from Google LLC) is only for mobile [Android, iPhone/iPad]. What are you using, GAuth or different? If after some time it is still not working, contact the developer else use another authenticator IF you have the secret key from the exchange.

Got a few questions first.

1. Which authenticator are you using?

2. Is the password included in the app or a built in feature in your phone?.
(Most phones has a built in app lock these days which you can customize. Did you set up one for your authenticator?)

3. Do you have your recovery codes? or any backups? Have you tried restoring them with a different authenticator app?

Hello. I need authenticator code to access exchange. Usually when I click authenticator icon I get asked for password. Now I get a blank screen. I deleted and re-installed authenticator but still does not work. I am using Chrome on a laptop.
