I have a quad 5770 gaming rig/desktop and I love it over the other options per dollar. Cards are 55-65 each, so that 260 for the worst.
Bf3, MW3, Skyrim, NFS: The Run, La Noir, ....you know, I have yet to find something I can run on ultra.

How is LA Noire? I almost bought it on super-sale yesterday, but then I realized I haven't played skyrim or the old republic or bastion or any other game I have acquired in the past year...

UPDATE: I decided on a 6950. I'm happy with my decision. I got free 1 day shipping, a DIRT 3 code (I hear they are hard to use), and the 6950!

you can flash the bios to run closer to a 6970's specs as well.

I was contemplating that. How does flashing a BIOS work? Do all of the 6950's have a switch?

You'll have less trouble gaming with a single card, yet have more hashing power with the 2x5770.  I'd go for the 2x5770's myself but the games I play run fine on a single 5770 anyway, it all depends on what games you plan on playing. Option 3 is to wait and see what the low end 7xxx cards can do.

I've been thinking about upgrading not only my mining power, but also my gaming power. I'm having trouble deciding what to do (for my budget).

Right now I'm stuck between
2x these http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161317(Fired for gaming effect.)

Or one of these
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161393

I think I'd get better hashing with two cards, probably not fired. But better gaming performance with the 6870. Anyone have thoughts?
