Question GPU Z is showing 12V on the first Card in idle or not but the other card shows 11,88 V. Is this normal ?

and there are showing different V in Afterburner.

I've got myself a Sapphire R9 TRI-X 290x OC. Its running stable 24/7 @953Kh/s and 66°C. With powertune a bit more, get back to us and share your results and settings as soon as you get the cards. If you need help, PM me, I don't need a bounty! I need you to join our troops!

Fresh install new drivers and nothings working.

I replaced this "bad" 290x against a 280x and its running really good  1600 khs (280x + 290x)

I put this bad card in my 2nd rig and error pc is not starting and gives me sounds.

I give this 290x back to my seller and bought 2x SAPPHIRE TRI-X R9 290X OC

Will arive toomorw <12°°

install the latest catalyst drivers? 13.something
*use a .bat file that contains directions for both gpus by using commas
sorry typing from memory may not be useful
cgminer.exe --scrypt -o localhost:(port) -u (user) -p (password) -I 20,20 -w 256,256 --thread-concurrency 28000,28000
check hwinfo or some program it tells you the ram being used by system on the cards, if its to close or over the max they won't start.

Hows your power supply are you able to get that 2nd card the power needed to run them both?

try lower intensity and concurrency and work up...

Here are few suggestions:

1. Switch card with their PCIe slots , If that fix with other then something wrong with MB or PCIe)
2. you may try to switch the power supply ports to cards
3. if nothing works .. Flash the same BIOS wih both cards

Hi,

It's always a good idea to have a system reinstalled after a mobo change.

Could you post your full cgminer config for both cards? It will be easier to come up with some conclusions.

setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100
setx GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS 1

You HAVE to have this! I can't overstress this enough. I just bought and installed a pair of 270x's and had the exact same problem. In your cgminer Windows Batch file put those 2 lines directly above your actual cmd line call. So it should look like this:

setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100
setx GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS 1
"C:\Users\WindowsUsername\Desktop\Mining\Scrypt Miner\cgminer\cgminer.exe" --scrypt -u User -p Pass -o stratum+tcp://PoolName.com:3333 -I 17 -g 1 -w 256 --thread-concurrency 13200

That's my exact one that I use actually for my 270x's. I get about 420 Kh/s with very very few, if any HW's per card (in a 24 hr run I might see a total of 4 or 5 HW's between both cards). I could probably take them a tad bit higher but I'm not trying to burn them up in a week or two either. Your 290x's will obviously have different settings, but if you put use those 1st 2 lines in your file it will let you go above the stock 8192 Thread Concurrency limit. Also, I know it's the popluar thing to do, but I found that you really don't need to go past 18 to max out your speed. 19 and 20 for intensity just seems overkill to me. I don't have a card more powerful than my 270x's though, so maybe on the 290's it's not a big deal, but thats just my 2 cents.

If you use those 2 lines though you will absolutely be able to use the higher TC though, and it's likely that it will fix a few of your problems as it did mine. From there it's just a matter of tweaking the TC. The rest of that stuff is w/e. I didn't even bother to set any of it. Oh I should say, when I ran cgMiner the first time or two it did not pickup both cards till I manually hit the G while it was running to bring up the GPU settings. I wouldn't use the 2 for GPU Threads either, though again with the 290x's that might be diffrent. For me though I saw it caused a lot of errors, and I just keep it at 1 now. Good luck though and hope it helps.

I got both of my cards running. It turns out I had to connect a monitor to each card and I used the Catalyst 13.11 drivers.

Have you tried the config I posted?
And don't forget to batch start cgminer with:
setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100
setx GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS 1

You can also trick it to think there's a monitor plugged in with some 1/2 watt resistors.

I was having the same problem on Friday. I bought two of these:
VisionTek
Radeon R9 290X 4GB GDDR5 PCI E
Manufacturer Part#   900654
UPC Code:   784090032133

I've had one of them running for 50 hours now at an average of 975Kh with this config
"intensity" : "20",
"vectors" : "1",
"worksize" : "256",
"kernel" : "scrypt",
"lookup-gap" : "2",
"thread-concurrency" : "28650",
"shaders" : "0",
"gpu-engine" : "1050",
"gpu-fan" : "50-100",
"auto-fan" : true,
"gpu-memclock" : "1500",
"gpu-memdiff" : "0",
"gpu-powertune" : "20",
"gpu-vddc" : "0.000",
"temp-cutoff" : "95",
"temp-overheat" : "85",
"temp-target" : "78",
"api-mcast-port" : "4028",
"api-port" : "4028",
"expiry" : "120",
"gpu-dyninterval" : "7",
"gpu-platform" : "0",
"gpu-threads" : "1",
"hotplug" : "5",
"log" : "5",
"no-pool-disable" : true,
"queue" : "1",
"scan-time" : "1",
"scrypt" : true,
"temp-hysteresis" : "3",
"shares" : "0",
"kernel-path" : "/usr/local/bin"

I was getting the "error -4" message in cgminer when I tried to run the higher TC (this pc only has 4gb of ram). So I worked out this config with one card and when I installed the second card, cgminer would go blank and never run. From there I tried several different configs and nothing worked. The only progress I made was when I installed the drivers from the catalyst 13.3. With that I was able to get cgminer to load, but all I could get was 100% hardware errors, even while testing a few different TCs.
 Hopefully tomorrow I'll have more time to work out the issues, and I'll test them in a different PC .

Reinstalled drivers, catalyst, sdk and afterburner same problem.

I took one 290x out and the other worked great.

Puted in a 280x and got the same problem. Each card wont get over to his full potential.

With the new MB i used my old Windows is that a problem ?

Hi there,

i hope there are more people who have the same problem.

I bought 2x SAPPHIRE R9 290X 4GB GDDR5 BATTLEFIELD 4 EDITION aka SKU: 21226-00-53G
They have both Hynix H5GQ2H24AFR Memory.

With one Card i can easy get 850 kh/s at Stock Mhz / -I 20 / -t 24000 / g- 1

Here comes the but, if i plug in the second card.

Only get 450 kh/s at Stock Mhz / -i 13 / -t 19000 /-g1

Changed both Crads (one card on the MB), same results 850 khs.

I found out that there are different BIOS-Version on that 2 Cards

Card 1: 015.039.000.007.003526 (113-C6710150-102)

Card 2: 015.041.000.002.000000 (113-C6710100-S02)

If i change between Uber and Quiet Mode only the Card 2  Changing there Bios to (113-C6710100-U02)

Should i update Card 2 with the Bios Version from Card 1 Huh

More importantly, what is your motherboard and memory?
