Mania, just make sure you are using the latest (ver. 0.5.2) client. The download speed has been significantly improved.
I don't want to imagine how long an old client version would take on a 128kbs link... ugh!

I don't understand what MtGox is. Do you keep your BTC there as you would regular currency in a bank? If so it seems like they don't just store the bitcoins you deposited than give those same BTC when you request but instead they send you BTC as they come in. Maybe the transaction rate is so high at mtgox that you have to wait for all those requests that are queued before you. So the time to payment is impacted by the BTC network itself. If you're request comes during an "unlucky" phase than you just have to wait longer. I may be completely wrong! But I am proud of my newbeeness.

Today I issued a 110BTC withdrawal request from MtGox. As soon as I hit the "Confirm" button I got a desktop notification from my Bitcoin client saying there is an incoming transaction. I'm impressed with the speed of delivery, but now even more curious as to why it took so long last time. Overall I'm pleased with MtGox since I got everything requested, just mystified about the large variance in delivery time.

I just got the withdrawal credited to me at 7:44 PM. Late, but still relieved. I hope in the future there can be some sort of warning if transactions will be delayed this long.

Well that's good to know. I knew MtGox was operated out of Japan, but thought they'd have plenty of time to deal with this by now. There's also a notice on the support site about MLK Jr. day delaying transactions (although that won't be until Monday).

The Casascius 1oz 10BTC Silver Round (w/ Gold B)
I would not be surprised if today the whole MTGox support team is either returning to Japan from CES, or getting over the jet lag. They have been there all week manning their booth.

Is there any way I can escalate the situation with their support? The support ticket says priority "normal" but there's no option to change that, even when creating a new ticket. At least I wish they would give me a personal message telling me they are looking into it.

This is far from expected behavior but such outlier situations do happen to all exchanges from time to time.

My worst snafu was with Intersango when a transfer wouldn't show up for a week :<
Apparently, they'd messed up by setting the transfer status to sent (so they thought everything was fine) without actually launching the transfer itself.

In general, I'm very pleased with how MtGox operates.
Keep your ears up, mate Smiley

So is this normal? Last week I needed to withdraw BTC from Tradehill to pay ngzhang for his FPGA mining board. I requested 101 BTC. Then after an hour waiting I searched and found out they have to manually approve withdrawals of over 100 BTC and that it could take 8 hours. Sure enough, the next day the BTC had been sent to me. If this had been MtGox I may have missed my opportunity to buy the last of the batch of mining boards. I think 3 days wait for sending BTC is unacceptable, especially with the wide fluctuations in price. How do I know MtGox is not trying to profit from the fall in price ($6.84 at the time of request and $6.49 now)? Moreover, BTC transactions are inherently fast, unlike bank deposits into Dwolla or other traditional banking transactions.

Don't worry, your BTC will get to you... eventually. I'm not sure the support is active during Weekends...
MtGox may be a little slow sometimes but they do NOT cheat their customers.

I put in a support request 10 hours after requesting a withdrawal of 85 BTC stating that there is not even any sign of a transaction on block explorer, but all I got back was a canned response:

Hello,

When withdrawing or depositing bitcoins into your Mt.Gox account it can sometimes take a while (1~48 hours) depending on network congestion, your internet speed and the time required to receive at least 6 confirmations on the network. If you're sending to your computer's wallet rather than an MtGox account, it's good practice to keep your bitcoin client running so it may download the block chain. For those that may not know the block chain is the complete history of all transactions made on the bitcoin network, so keep in mind it can take some time to update and download the most current block and see the bitcoins in your wallet.

Thanks,

MtGox.com Team

It has been more than 48 hours now and still no sign of a transaction. I put in another comment last night (around 5:00 ETC) but there's no reply as of this morning (9:00 ETC).
