tbh the only good rig there is the NVidia one, but for the price of 6500 just too steep of a price for USED hardware and I have rx 480s since just after they came out, id garentee those that he has been used for more then 2 months people will do anything to make you seem like you are getting a good deal. you don't know how long those gpus will last for one or how hard he pushed them did he OC them cause that makes a difference in shelf life. you are better off investing in new hardware that has a warrenty as those that you will be buying from that guy will NOT have a warranty and amd warranties do not transfer

Hi, I love the EVGA DG-87 at my first sign (I haven't built and am not even interested in a PC for almost 10 years but the case is just amazing).
I am thinking about order a 1300W EVGA in case the 1000W can not handle the load so I really appreciate the confirmation from you.
May I ask:
- What is the "with AIO" ?
- Do you run Windows or SM OS on these rig?


Fun fact: It is winter now so I am thinking of running it instead of the heater. Lol.

EVGA DG-86 will be a nice case
But 4x 1080 with only 1000W will not be enough
I got 3x 1080ti (with AIO in a bequiet case) which need about 800W
The case get very hot too. Add some extra fans on the case

@Rig 1 ( all parts arrived)~~~ $2300-$2500
- 6 RX 580
- Z170 + Celeron + 4gb DDR4 RAM.
- Mintcell PCI risers.
- HP 1200 W server ( + breaker board + adapter+ cable ) and 750 W EVGA G2===> haven't figured out how to properly combine this two, Voskcoin youtube video seems confusing.
- Wood/ Aluminum frame from Home Depot=> Haven't figured out how to build it.
- Will run SM OS through SanDisk 32 GB flash drive.=> Is there any wifi adapter that is compatible with this OS?

- 4 GTX 1080 Hybrid ( from Newegg)=$600 x4= $2400 but I bought it when eBay offered 10% eBay bucks.
- Asrock OC + Pentium sky lake + 8gb ram . MB has four PCI-E so it saves me couple bucks on riser cards.
- 1000w Corsair HX1000i PSU=> I am not sure if this one can handle Quad SLI.
- 512 Sandisk SSD ( Windows) or 32 GB SM OS flash drive.
- EVGA DG-86 case for $150 from Neweggs.


I would love to hear and appreciate for any suggestion to make the most out of these rigs.

I think every choice is actually good. It is not bad for mining.

I'll recommend you to include the amount of downtime for reasons such as electricity down, Internet loss, miners acting up leading to crashes. Many people who come all enthusiastic to get into mining forget to take this into account. I was one of them. Moreover, check for the stability of the miners that you're going to buy. I'll definitely say that the price is really good for the offer but do your research before buying them and ask if he can produce some invoice for the GPUs which will make your RMA process for any GPU a less hassle in the future.

As with any investment, you'll obviously want to diversify. So buy some AMDs and some nvidias. RX 580 or 570 (depending on the price you can get them for) and 1060 or 1070 Ti (again, just make a spreadsheet writing down number of cores, prices and hashrates for appropriate algos, do the math and choose whatever makes most sense). Risers seem to all come from the same place, I don't think there's any difference between the variations of the usual ver. 06. CPUs don't matter, celerons will do just fine. Memory bandwidth doesn't matter as well (no difference between single channel and multi-channel modes), 4 gb is usually enough (but if you go with some monstrous 10+ gpu rigs then you might need more, not an issue for 8 gpus per rig). And 100-120gb ssd.

There's no consensus on how many cards per rig to run, you'll have to do some research here and think long and hard. With higher-end cards I personally don't go over 8 per rig, with lower-end ones (ie gtx 1060) I might run 10 per rig. It's half math and half personal preference here, so you'll have to figure this out on your own: calculate the cost of building 8 gpu rig, 10 gpu rig, 12 gpu rig etc, and then assess those builds in terms of convenience and risks (every extra gpu you add to the system potentially decreases its stability, and when a rig goes down for some reason, the more gpus it has the more money you're losing while it's idle).

The price of these rigs is good but I'm sure they've been in the job more than 2 months. During this time, dried up thermal paste to the GPU and I am sure that they require maintenance. Be sure to check how fast the fans are spinning and what is the temperature of the chips. It is important to be in the summer.

My personal opinion is the 1070s but thats because I am running them. Either motherboard will work fine go with whatever is cheaper.  I have the Asus B250 but got it when it was available and didnt pay a ton for it and works fine.  Dont pay up for an i5. I did and I regret it get the cheapest one you can. I would have gone Celeron if I did it over again. I dont use the CPU at all so its truly doesnt matter one bit.  Save yourself the money and get a cheap Celeron. For riser I use the Mintcell risers and have had no issues.

4gb is RAM works fine, can add more in the future if you need to

EVGA 1k or 1200 PSU should suffice for what you are trying to go with if you do the 1070s if you get 6 or less.  

for 6500 i'd buy them.

1070 alone is 8 x 450 = 3600

you will waste your time building and waiting to get parts for 2 weeks while you can buy them and turn them on tomorrow.

I have over 400 1070 - ZEC mining and about the same 470/480 (monero)

May I ask with my budget of $6500-$8000 (A half is profit from a bitcoin that I flipped 3 days ago). Which GPUs should I buy that will be good next 4-6 months? ( I can't expect to see further as coin market is going insane now)

E.g:

- RX 580 or GTX 1070 or GTX 1060 ?
- Asus 19 GPU or 13 GPU Asrock?
- 4gb or 8gb dual channel?
- Which Riser cards brand is good and reliable?
- Celeron CPU or an I5? I am a anti-Celeron.

Coming back from a long time lurking.  Rig B I would want a really good deal to consider as difference between 1070 and 1070 ti is not a whole lot, and the new TI is more efficient with right settings.   

I think you are going in right track in building  your own rigs.   I would just decide what coin you are trying to mine as I see AMD and GTX as each having advantages and disadvantages.

They were launched about 1.5 years ago, in summer of 2016. But AMD released their replacement (RX 580) in April of 2017, and with all the hype around cryptocurrency mining the remaining RX 480s disappeared from the stock almost immediately after RX 580 showed up. So now, 7 months after RX 580 release, I'm not aware of any store out there that have RX 480 cards in stock. It's just unlikely that the guy that's selling you these rigs managed to buy 6 new RX 480s just two months ago. Possible, of course, but not very likely.
 
I don't know whether you can build a better system for $6.5k, I'm only commenting on the price of these 3 rigs based on the GPUs included. It's all used hardware, and you didn't post any specs (other than the GPUs), so it's hard to calculate without knowing what it is you're buying. New 1070s are each $430 or less, new 1060/3 are ~$200 each, and new 580/4 are $210-230 each. So all the GPUs are close to $6k if bought new. You can run 20 cards with 2 rigs. 8*1070 = ~1200W, 6*1060/3 = ~ 700W, 6*580 = ~ 900W (ballpark values, actual consumption could be less), so you need ~ 3 kW of power in total between 2 rigs, that's something like 4 * 850-1000W PSUs = $600-1000.

Ok, I'm too bored calculating this stuff, and it doesn't really matter. The point is that even if you add the price of the remaining components (2 motherboards, 2 cpus, 2 memory sticks, 2 ssds, 20 risers) you're still probably under $8k. But that's all new hardware. Whether it's worth it to go buying used stuff for the kind of discount you're getting is up to you. If it's a friend you're buying this from then it's one thing, but if it's a random dude from craigslist.. then I'd rather go with new parts and build whatever and however I want instead of getting someone else's stuff.

I believe RX 480s are almost 1 year old, aren't they?

EVGA GTX 1060/3 and Powercolor Red dragon RX480/4. Can you please elaborate on this "  it's still alright, but not that good ?"

Do you think I can build a better system to mine Altcoin with $6500? I haven't built a computer for the past 10 years but I can do it easily.

RX 480 cards have been mostly out of stock for a long time now, so there's a chance that the rig was used for more than 2 months (that's of course if you don't know the guy personally and not sure whether he's telling the truth). You might also want to find out whether it's 1060/3 or 1060/6 cards (3 gb or 6 gb) and 480/4 or 480/8. If it's 1060/6 and 480/8 then it's not a bad deal, but if it's 1060/3 and 480/4.. well, it's still alright, but not that good.

Thats about 7 months ROI (using 36/day) which seems about right at the current going rate. I would test each rig before hand to ensure everything works.  Depending on the internals you may be able to build your rig cheaper. Depends on what PSU, CPU, RAM that he is using. You may be better off piecing yours together and then building it yourself. Make sure you take into account the electric cost you are paying and update that in whattomine as well as ensuring you have enough power at home to plug all these in.

I am considering buying 3 rigs (pre-configured) from a local guy for $6500, he used it for couple months:

- A=  6 x EVGA GTX 1060
- B=  8 x EVGA GTX 1070 ( not Ti)
- C=  6 x AMD radeon 480


Whattomine shows me a profit of $30-36 per day. Seems so good to be true. I am kinda new to this so I would appreciate any input before pulling the trigger.
