After spending almost two hours getting Windows XP installed and learning how to save the bios, edit and flash it, I am back in Xubuntu.

I currently have the CPU core set at 850MHz and getting 340Mh/s.

Temperature is climbing slowly, now at 71C. I am going to set fan speed to %50 and see if the temp falls.

After 5 minutes, temp has fallen to 60C, and I am still getting 340Mh/s. Going to try upping the GPU another 20 MHz.

The 20Mhz increase (870Mhz now) gained an extra 8Mh/s, now at 348Mh/s, temp is holding at 60C.

Now I am running at 900Mhz, running 360Mh/s, temp is moving up to 62C.

Tried running at 925Mhz and the system froze. So it looks like I found the upper limit. Before it froze, it was doing 370Mh/s.

I tried running RBE under wine last night. First problem I encountered was a missing VB dll, which I downloaded and put in the system32 folder. After that I was able to launch RBE without any issue, but it wouldn't do anything useful after that point, not even display GPU information.

Would be nice if TPU would offer the source code for RBE so a *nix version could be developed.

I guess I'll have to install Windows on this machine. -Sigh-

Use Radeon bios editor under Windows to raise your upper core clock limit on the XFX to 1000 MHz, then reboot into Linux and slowly raise the core clock until it becomes unstable or you reach 90 degrees C.  I've heard that RBE runs under wine, but I haven't tried it myself.

Try overclocking it past 775MHz.

I'm thus far not too pleased with the performance of the 5850 that I bought for $180. I am getting 308Mh/s. I'd be happy around 330Mh/s. Anything I can do to get more out of this card?

xubuntu 10.04
amd sdk 2.1
ati catalyst 11.3
poclbm 2011 beta 5

I have AMDOverdriveCtrl running at 775C and 300M. Temp is stable at 70C.

Also, I am getting 272Mh/s out of a Sapphire 5830 running under the above setup at 875C and 300M, temp @ 68C. Any way to get this up to 300Mh/s?
