nvidia is very easy to overclock, you need to use msi afterburner and move the slide bar to the left, not too much or you will get crash and damage the gpu in case of memory OC, my oc are +150 core max 200, and max 400-600 on mem, but it depend on the model

I am still mixed on the 1080ti's I guess they will hold their value better but it seems like a risky move to me.

I remembered someone in the forum mentioned earlier the MSI Armor series were not very great in cooling, that's probably why they are always the least expensive non-blower type cards on the market. I also don't recommend old EVGA SC/FTW, I burned one not long ago (known VRAM overheating issue). Within your budget, just try to find cooler cards. OC is just simple and most 1070 can reach 2G core, also you can find $5 windows 10 on ebay.

I am using a MSI z170 m5, since the riser is still on the way, I put three cards directly onboard. I could only get 2X1080Ti + 1 X 1070 working, but not 3 X 1080 Ti. I will update once I get the risers.

I have read that GTX 1080 Ti setups require more then 4GB of RAM to be stable mining. I'm not sure if that applies to setups with more then 4 GPUs or not. If your undervolt and tweak your settings enough you can get somewhere around 600 sols @ 150 watts, supposedly.....

I have two 1070 and six 1080 Ti. 1070 has better $/hash for sure, but you may just need 1 extra month to ROI and 1080 Ti will hold resell value better before next generation GPU launches.

Also some real hash # I can share here:

1) EVGA 1070 FTW 480 hash (core > 2G, samsung memory 9G, which is probably the highest frequency most 1070 can reach)
2) EVGA 1070 SC 460~480 (core close to 2G, micro memory 8.8G)
3) 1080 Ti FE 660 (quiet and cool at 75% TDP limit, a little OC), or 700 (fan 75%, 70C, a little loud in office/bedroom environment, TDP 90%, a little OC).

If you get aftermarket 1080 Ti, it should be much easier to push it above 700 while keep it quiet/cool. Most important thing for 1080 Ti will be cooling. I can shortly get 760 with my 1080 FE, so you can expect 700~760 for AIB card. Gigabyte Aorus seems to be the best 1080 Ti right now, I purchased the FE only because I get good deal for it.

Also remember Gigabyte may warranty you from the manufacture data of the card (at least here in NA), good luck to get some fresher 1070 then.

1070 is better $/hash , i was going to build a 1070 rig too for zec and found it's the best $/hash i will just go with the cheapest i think it's the gigabyte version poor cooling but cheap prices at the end i look for the roi.

Why did you pick the cards you picked? You should do some homework first and then conclude what cards too pick.
