under Win8 work is not stable - gpu usage of 2 cards fluctuates between 64% and 100%
It would be good to use 5 cards under win7 64-but. Also 7870xt does not work with 12.6 drivers which probably support 5+ GPUs under Win7
Anyone has any idea how to make 5 cards running in Win7 ?

remove your xfire, use windows 8 and you might need to get a powered riser http://cryptosupply.com/products/powered-1x-to-16x-pci-e-riser-cable

Have you tried 12.6?   These cards shouldn't be xfired anyway.

What bios settings do i need to change to get 5 GPU in win7 x64?  I can get 4 cards running without a problem but i cannot get the 5th running.  Please help.  I am trying to run 5 7950 and currently have 13.4 installed.

I guess you can try Windows 8. Windows 8 (supposedly) allows for 5 GPUs without any special settings or drivers.  Wouldn't hurt to look into it.

I would highly advise not using Windows 8 for mining the cat drivers for Windows 8 are broken and skd where it installs goes to wrong locations and also cat install installs the OpenCl driver needed however places it in wrong folders for install  graphics drivers.

You can do it on Windows 7 depending on how you have set this up and have it configured. You might need to tweak around in the bios slow some clocks and timing to get all 5 cards working from the PCI-e slots then ull need some extenders to allow extra room and allow good air flow...

Regarding you putting them into cross fire you don't need to do this. This is more than likely the problem that is the cause. Remove the crossfire cables and have 1 monitor connected to the first card and boot the system up with the others in. Use cgminer set up your configuration for them and it should auto detect all the GPU'sIf this does not happen you might need some dummy plugs however shouldn't need them nowadays.

If it does not work then you maybe have to change bios settings or finding a custom bios Am not full up on the Asrock boards but I would have a play around b4 switching to linux but then again running on lunix might be better too.

Catalyst 12.6 will allow 5 GPU's.  I'm using it but the downside is that with 13.1 and 4 cards, I was getting ~755kH/s.  The downgrade to 12.6 dropped it to ~738 per card (could also be internet connection related but I'm not certain).

Yeah thats a problem for me since I cannot downgrade that far with my 7870 XT(7950/7970 chip/drivers used with this and can be xfired with 7900 series) as it came out after Catalyst 12.6.

So I got five installed on my Asrock 990fx professional fatal1ty (hate that guy lol) mobo and it booted, 5th card showed up in gpu-z but when I went to sensors it didn't show any memory for that card and a few other missing specs. Is it time to switch to linux? I was under impression only crossfire didn't work but I'm wondering now what out of the 20 things it could be such as over amping pci-e bus (no powered risers) or lack of support for 5 PCI-E lanes on mobo/fx8350 ect. I could research each portion but I figured I would check and see if anyone can see writing on wall with my config quickly with the information I've given lol.

 Appreciate any input.

on my asrock i get problem with 1->16x risers. it needed some tweaking with a cable from pin 1 to pin 16 i think :p
otherwise you shall check the power problem does your cards have 8 or 6  alimentation pins (X2)  ? is only 6 it might be it...

Weird I have been running 2 x1 to x16 risers without issue. The 5th card I was adding went into a PCI-E x16 slot so you would think if it ran previously it should continue to run with the x16 and since it does show up in hardware manager it should install and run fine. I'm about to modify the risers to be powered, I'll report back but honestly I'm starting to think others are right and past 12.6 drivers do not support over 4 GPU's in windows which is a problem since my 5th card is a 7870 XT isn't supported until 13.1 or 13.2 can't remember (7870 XT has same tahiti chip like 7950 and 7970 just cut even further down then 7950).
