Also considering ASRock H81 Pro BTC.
Only motherboard I know of that is "specifically designed for mining".

Anyone mining with this?
They're not available yet as far as I am aware.. I wanted one but suppliers had no ETA so I just went with a 4-slot Asus for now.. was taking too much time working out what to get Smiley

If you can find any MSI Z77A-G45's they were my #1 pick.... 7 slots Smiley

These all have 5 and are fairly cheap:
ASRock    970 Extreme4
Gigabyte   GA-970A-D3P
Gigabyte   GA-970A-D3
MSI   990FXA-GD65

Not 100% sure if they're tested to work though. I do know that last one actually has 6 slots but only 5 can work from what I read. Maybe it's possible to get thme to work

Thanks, will research the MBs on your list.

Also,

Gigabyte G1.Sniper 5

4 x PCIe 3.0 x16 slots
3 x PCIe 2.0 x1 slots

Expensive and overkill I suppose.
Looks like a great MB with potentially good resell value?

PS: +1 for the onboard power switch

i tried 5 gpus. but i couldnt make them work.

windows 7 wont see 5 cards. it see only 4 cards.

some ppl says installing about 11.2 drivers i installed but with this way cgminer wont start dig.

so i have should install windows 8 (ppl says it support 5 gpu without anything) . i hate it. windows 8 is just a badass os. it freezed everytime i tried run cgminer.

at final i installed xubuntu. im not an experienced linux user. i used a step by step command guide.

i got an error about detecting gpus... so i removed xubuntu. i felt its not for me.

i re installed windows 7 64bit. its just "love" lol, i putoff one card and now im working with 4 cards. im happy lol.

i will create an other 4gpu rig so i will buy three of same cards when do some profits lol.

im using msi g45 mobo
4x 7950 powercolor pcs
4gb ram
celeron 1155 ivybridge cpu
2x750w bronze psu
20$ used 40gb sata hdd
4x 1x to 16x molex powered risers.

getting 520 khs from each card. actuaily i should get 560 for this cards. but sometimes a card goes sick. than this freezes system. so i lowered -I to 18 from 20

and i lowered core clock and memory clock.

im a newbie miner got headache because of OS issues.

MSI G45s looks like a great option!

3 x PCIe 3.0 x16 slots
4 x PCIe 2.0 x1 slots

Impressive...

Already mining with a 4x 7950 (Gigabyte) rig using Xubuntu - quite a struggle to get everything up and running - after a few days of tuning I'm hashing @ 620 kh/s per card and also now at a point where I'm happy with stability (even though cgminer still hangs on me every now and then - usually when switching pools).

Look into CPU with T index. Less power usage, less heat .

Didn't know about the CPU T index, good tip thanks!

T – Power-optimized lifestyle (ultra low power with 35-45W TDP)
U - Ultra-low power
Y - Extreme-low power

Those PSU's can handle 6 cards, the board does too. Just use powered risers and put them far enough apart, you're good to go. Linux experience is definitely neccessary though as you'll encounter some problems during setup, just as i did.

Thanks, looks like the Sapphire Toxic Radeon R9 280X power consumption is about 350W?

Researching hardware for my next 5+ GPU mining rig.

Case: aluminium open case (custom made)

Motherboard: still researching but ASRock Z87 Extreme9 looks like it will do the job
http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z87%20Extreme9ac/

GPUs: 5+ Sapphire Toxic Radeon R9 280X (currently my first choice but also researching R9 290 options)

PSUs: 2x 1000W+ Corsair

Core i3 CPU, 4GB RAM, Xubuntu booting from Sandisk Cruzer Fit USB Flash Drive

Any advice will be appreciated!
