A formal motion itself is easy enough to file by any person that this pretains to directly. A lawyer is recommended, but not needed if you can learn the law pretaining to this matter.

That is never recommended, as soon as the other lawyer knows you're learning as you go they'll just string the case out meaninglessly until you withdraw. No one wins, just pay for a lawyer.

That is true, but just from personal experience, judges usually go above and beyond to help anybody that is representing thereselves to try and guide them in the correct path. Now this does not mean that the judge will side in the favor of the "prosecution" or "defense". I do agree that legal representation should be retained and only the individual proceed if you have suffecient law training. Honestly though, it should have never came to this point and should be handled like a adult. Not like a child that didn't get the toy they wanted. Which is exactly what he/she/they are doing.

Of course I am sure most forum members don't want to see such a topic but unfortunately I had my offline computer taken from me and have no other way to regain control of the 50 BTC that I am holding for the forum.

If you think it is fine that the forum should just allows insults of everyone's partners then please start insulting the mods partners as clearly that should be okay (am sure they will all be very happy to have their wives read posts about being "maids").

While I have often been critical of the mods/staff here, this course of action is not appropriate for several reasons.

1. As the custodian for the coins, the fact that you physically lost control of them is your legal responsibility. It doesn't really matter how this happened. Also, why do you not have backups?

2. Your wife effectively committed an act of theft, not just from you, but also all donators to the forum. This puts her personally under criminal liability.

3. Because this is all based on a criminal act she is also likely liable to be charged with extortion as well because of the demands made based on the offer of return of stolen property.

This is not good for either of you. I hope you can help her understand this for both of your sakes. While I understand the frustration with how this forum is run, this will only cause more problems for you, her, and others.

That's what should happen then. Legal action should be taken against her. I'm sure their is someone on the forums that will Pro-bono this case and can proceed with the appropriate course of action against her. If the OP is indeed trying to extort the forum into doing what he wishes, then he to should be charged. A formal motion itself is easy enough to file by any person that this pretains to directly. A lawyer is recommended, but not needed if you can learn the law pretaining to this matter.

You deflect every request for proof by saying 'talk to my wife'

I'll take her off your hands.  How can I get in contact with her?

You can complain all you like about me being a treasurer "with a wife" as I guess you'd prefer all treasurers should have no wife (maybe @theymos should have stated that you are not allowed to be married to be a "treasurer" for this forum).

Call it what you want, but you're not a treasurer if you keep trusted money where someone else can seize them on a whim-- only to defend their action and support their demands on the forum.

I am also married with kids and my wife would never go off the deep end like that. Not going to say anything bad about your wife, but that behavior is not normal. You seem pretty unhappy with these boards so probably best if you return the funds and find a new forum. Really not trying to be negative, but this entire thread is beyond ridiculous.

Possibly. This depends if there is nothing else in your post; it should be considered off topic in that case.

Hmmm. Interesting. then mods have to accept all insults like an off-topic and delete it.  Sorry @dogie it was just an example Cheesy

I wonder if the forum will ever see a week without any drama? I was surprised at the amount of replies that the thread got within a few hours.
You know this sounds like extortion right? Read your post objectively and tell me it doesn't.
This was my first thought exactly. However, once this situation (hopefully) gets resolved CIYAM should return the funds.
You have proven that you aren't capable of keeping them safe. To avoid future issues you should just give them back.
You've got a nice wife there.  Roll Eyes

I shall live and die at my post. I am the sword in the darkness. I am the watcher on the walls. I am the shield that guards the realms of men. I pledge my life and honor to the Night's Watch, for this night and all the nights to come."

Not everyone on this forum supports *haters*.

No one supports haters. What we do support is 1 rule for all. We've all been attacked by similar posts in the past, me included by seriouscoin. That doesn't give us the right to try and swivel what power we have over others to get a different rule applied.

Unfortunately my wife saw these posts by some forum troll:

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/chinese-exchanges-reject-20mb-block-size-increase-1081959

I sent numerous reports to mods to delete the off-topic posts but they seemingly decided that such posts are "fine and dandy" in this forum.

Result is that my wife has now confiscated my off-line computer that has the 50 BTC that the forum has asked me to look after.

Jeepers! Just when I'm lulled into thinking that things can't get even crazier around here...

What a bizarre situation..  Shocked

OP was definitely veiled as a threat though. "Remove the posts or the 50 BTC could disappear". Not a smart thing to do when you're holding funds.

The mod team is infamous for only removing posts which don't add to the discussion (spam). Dox's, pedophile accusations, obviously carded items, threats, bribes, and scams are just some of things moderation won't get involved with. Why do you feel your situation is special? Because you hold forum funds?

You left your BCT logged in and open on a thread where you were being insulted and then walked away long enough for your wife to come by and snoop through the thread? Surrrrrrrreee. Sounds like you just got offended by what someone said and tried to use your forum "position" to influence its deletion. Again, not smart.

It should be pretty clear that this was a sad extortion attempt to get posts deleted that you did not like. What is even more sad is that someone seems to have complied with your demands.

You must think that you are a "genius" so congratulations on your incredible research.

If getting ridiculously nasty posts removed is somehow a "bad thing" then for sure I am guilty.

I don't think those posts were off topic. I do think that person does not deserve any kind of respect considering how he speaks and presents himself and he will be ignored by most. He does still have the right to have an opinion despite how unpopular it is.

I would have less problems with having the posts removed if they were not removed under the threat of never seeing 50 BTC again.

It's surprising that when one threatens the MODs, they delete the posts which are offensive else other offensive posts aren't delete. What hypocrisy? I thought all members are treated equally here but no, it's only a place where people can threaten and get their work done.

It is indeed sad that the moderation on bitcointalk.org sucks so badly.

I will report those comments against me to the cyber crime cell. Those comments are definitely not to be entertained on a discussion forum unless the MODs hate women to an extent that they love them being abused. Moderation definitely is the worse here.

Tomorrow anyone will threaten to kill someone and even commit such a crime but still those comments will be entertained here.

I have seen this person complain about the moderation several times before. He even threatened to no longer provide his service of holding bitcoin for the forum unless changes were made. It seems that threat did not work and has resorted to more extreme threats to get what he wants.

And your proof is?

Also I disable viewing of signatures so I do not notice them as much  Tongue

As has been pointed out *many, many* times already it is the shit posts not the ads themselves that are the main issue.

Note that only the ad sig posters (such as the one I've quoted) ignore this *time and time again* and keep trying to tell everyone they should disable the sigs when they know full well what the problem is.

Stop with the bullshit please.

Personally I am almost done with this forum - so if they are going to allow the same rubbish on the new forum then @theymos please send me an address to return the 50 BTC I am minding for this forum (I'll send a GPG request for this in the next few weeks I guess).

This is where you posted that you asked to no longer hold BTC for the forum, you were complaining about the signature spam throughout the forum. You have complained about the moderation, or the lack thereof of users with advertisements many times, which is ironic because you yourself are advertising your services in your signature which gets additional exposure with every post you make.

It should be pretty clear that this was a sad extortion attempt to get posts deleted that you did not like. What is even more sad is that someone seems to have complied with your demands.

Please give me some time to first get back my offline PC and then do this (once he has given me an address to send to).

It is sad that bitcointalk.org has become like this when it was actually so nice years ago but I guess that is just the way things are now.

It isn't sad, it's just how it should be. If you were truly unable to have been able to retrieve the coins of your own accord when this happened (or still are, as you seem to not have the offline PC) then there should now be a higher level of risk associated with you holding BTC as a treasurer, because there is a risk you could be unable to access the coins permanently or at the time they are recalled.

+1 for having CIYAM send the coins to Theymos, as he has proven that the coins could be jeopardized by his/family member's opinion of forum posts.

Seriouscoin was definitely being an asshole, but it is not the moderators job to keep everything nice and rated G.  Demanding removal of posts to return coins owned by the forum requires a truly special level of being an asshole.

I think there's plenty of trustworthy treasurers available.  Theymos has a list.
Don't forget that time lock tx can be used as well so that funds are not inaccessible forever even if a person is missing from multisig group.  The forum should use protocol features that were designed to solve such problems.

Exactly, even with multisig, one missing person can block all funds.

I thought this was not the case with 2-of-3 multisig transactions?

Anyway, glad to see this seems like it has/will be sorted out. I do think that the reaction was over-the-top but the posts were pretty over-the-top as well and it's good the worst of them were deleted (as they seem like simply an attempt to troll and harass based on their content and the poster).

Also, to avoid the "most forum users are single"/"as clearly most forum posters here don't" argument, I do have a significant other. I still believe that the whole situation shouldn't have really happened in the first place, even though the posts were bad. I agree with KWH on that this would normally set a bad precedence...in all honesty though they were pretty rough posts. The matter at which this issue was raised - extortion - is completely out-of-hand, though.

I think you should send the BTC back to theymos now however, @CIYAM.

Apparently the mods decided to delete the most offensive posts and for that I am happy and I am sure once I show my wife this my offline PC will be returned to me.

I have stated that I will still honor my obligation about the 50 BTC even if I never get my offline PC back (so that will come out of my own funds).

This is not about trying to extort the forum but simply about why is there no moderation about such posts (after they were reported several times).

If you can't see why my wife is *angry* then I think you need to re-read the posts.

Do you guys not think that some sort of "decency" should exist at all?

No one who's not married/attached is going to see why or how your wife is angry.  I believe, imho, most forum users are single and do not have any experience with relationships yet so their frame of reference of understanding you is not there.  There's no logic to be applied here.  Your wife is pissed about comments on bitcoin related forum... Therefore she hates/blames bitcon... Therefore she has punished bitcoin by taking it away from you... Hopefully in a few days emotions can calm down...  And to your wife, sorry for the abuse you've received from a nasty person on these forums...

Just looking for peace

Wasn't there someone who passed away before and now this?
Over time all forum btc will become inneccesible at this rate.

paraipan, he was holding 250 Bitcoins.

Just read about him!

I really think Multi-sig should be encouraged for all forum btc.

I prefer Zakir over Muhammed when mentioning me!
seriouscoin is a troll and is obvious. Most of his posts should be deleted.

@CIYAM: Well, what you said is good but not giving 50BTC for not deleting is actually bad IMHO. I think you should change this thread to a normal one.

Eg:

seriouscoin is trolling. Please delete his off-topic posts. I reported it but I didn't find any response from mods.

BTW, if you reported posts recently, it may take sometime for those posts to be deleted. So please wait...

P.S. These types of threads will also decrease your reputation in this forum. Hope you can understand it and change the style of the topic.

Your wife (and you by extension) is (are) essentially extorting the forum. That's a fact. I understand this is (partially) not your fault but it is still extortion. And while I do feel a bit of sympathy as those posts are completely over-the-top, holding ~$12000 in Bitcoin hostage is not something a mature adult should consider nor do. It reeks of childishness.

On the other hand, why are we calling people's wives "absolute cunts" now? Hold it for a second, some bad stuff happened, why are we resorting to statements that bad already? I am not bothered who said it, I'm not bothered if they are staff either (and I'm not in the camp who think staff need to be morally above the median, although they shouldn't be extremely below it), but for anyone - especially regulars - in a community to respond to an issue like this with something like that almost immediately is over-the-top.

P.S.: hilariousandco, you're cool usually, but what...?

Sure if you guys want to show that "we agree that women should be denigrated" then do absolutely nothing.

It is only my wife that you are hurting but clearly you don't care about that.

Also my wife is only asking that "off-topic" posts are removed from that topic - is that so unreasonable (and any replies I made should also be deleted)?

This forum can't help any user who is personally attacked or abused and even I've been abused a lot on this forum and those posts still exist. Using such words shows the standard of a person and arguing with them or removing those posts does no harm to them but it only makes us feel hurt.

These posts also do exist here and they are found pretty constructive and hence I don't have anything to say: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1074134.220

Just because my mom told me to calm down, I have not tried to be offensive else another person would have committed suicide due to those abusive words used for me.

Even Facebook and Twitter allows such abusive comments and by trying to blackmail the forum admin won't help and I do feel bad for you but nothing can be done.

I just had a thought, can we confirm this isn't a hacked account first? CIYAM are you able to sign an address please?

I am having troubles with trying to run Bitcoin software here but you are can send me an email to [email protected] or [email protected] if you think that I have been hacked.

That sounds rough, luckily though you were smart enough to make at least 3 backups of your wallet with at least one of those backups offsite, so you still have full access to the funds. Right?
The OP is clearly lying about not having access to the forum's money. I seriously doubt that someone would "punish" their husband for something that is written by an anon on the internet, I mean come on. Not only that but the punishment is to "take away" the OP's offline computer (that likely gets very little use).

My offline funds are dependent upon my offline PC.

I will try to calm my wife down but with the mods seemingly happy to see her insulted that isn't really going to be very easy.

This forum has really gone "too far" about letting people "attack others" and not helping anyone being attacked.

Both Electrum and Armory force you to make at least one backup before you can send funds, I'm not sure what software you were using for your offline computer, however I would expect it must've had this important security feature so that you don't lose 50BTC due to a hardware failure or in this case a hardware seizure.

If the forum ever wants those 50 BTC back then I suggest you might want to delete those offensive posts.

Also if I were the forum member who made those posts I'd never plan to travel to China in the future.

CIYAM, i know you are angry about this, i just read the comments on the link and are really offensive.

All the forum users deserve respect, but in real life and more in Internet we will find some trolls or users with bad intentions. And we can identify that users on the forum with the trust system.

I think the way you are handle this is not the correct, If you want to make some noise to see how the mods on the forum handle this, maybe this was the right way, but at last your family is holding the forum money, and that is something serious.

If he accepts the responsibility to hold the coins he can't refuse to pay back when required under any circumstance. If someone stole or hacked those coins he'd still have to pay them back.

Agreed - even if I can never access my offline computer again I will try to repay the BTC so this is not some game that I am playing to steal 50 BTC at all.

Seriously my wife saw the posts by that asshole and got so angry that she took my offline computer and now I don't know now where it is.

You know this sounds like extortion right? Read your post objectively and tell me it doesn't.

You can argue with my wife about that if you like but I have lost control of the offline computer.

There are two completely separate problems here. One is that those posts by seriouscoin are indeed offensive and I agree they need to be removed.

The other problem is OP's extortion. It does sound like he's extorting the admins demanding them to remove the posts or they won't see those BTC50 again. Even if it's true that OP doesn't have access to them anymore then he'd need to be responsible and pay back from their own coins. If he accepts the responsibility to hold the coins he can't refuse to pay back when required under any circumstance. If someone stole or hacked those coins he'd still have to pay them back.

You need to do the arguing with your wife or you owe the forum 50btc. What you're actually saying is remove these posts or you're not getting your money back.

If you think it is fine that the forum should just allows insults of everyone's partners then please start insulting the mods partners as clearly that should be okay (am sure they will all be very happy to have their wives read posts about being "maids").

You really need to grow up, but here's an insult for you: your wife is an absolute cunt if she has genuinely taken your computer away (but I don't believe that for a second). I think it's you just being unbelievably pathetic and trying to get your own way by blackmailing the forum into removing some posts you don't like. Feel free to insult my wife, kids, dead grandparents etc.

Its your responsibility to talk to your wife, not the forum's however you still have a responsibility to the forum and the funds you are holding.

When I can't access the offline computer that has the funds then I am sorry but there is nothing much I can do.

You are welcome to try and sue me if you think that will work (I don't think that my wife cares much about your opinion).

Yes that is okay, the forum's policy does not prevent personal attacks.

Generally the OP does sound like extortion though, and claiming another party is aggrieving you doesn't give you the right to pass that extortion down the chain.

Then come and talk to my wife who is so angry she won't even talk to me.

For sure you are not going to do that even if I give you her QQ - so don't give me bullshit unless you are prepared to actually do something.

It looks like the offending person is seriouscoin who is apparently a shill for whoever is leading the smear campaign against dogie.

It also appears that his signature contains the dox of someone else that he does not like (posting a name, phone number and claim of homosexuality is a pretty good indication of this).

He's not a shill, just someone with a lot of hate for pretty much everyone. There are swathes of pages of posts where every post is a single sentence insult at people. Of his 3000 posts at least 1000 are terrible. I made a very quick summary post of some examples specifically directed at me, but could be in the meta or scam thread.

while that's true and all. some might wish that OP never post this topic and makes everyone see what looks like an extortion happening in public. a PM should be fine

what will the other members that's holding BTC for the forum think?
