Thanks for all your replies folks  Smiley
I’ll lock this thread up and hopefully reopen when I get to 10,000!!
Interestingly, the last week there hasn’t been so much spam to report … hopefully this thread has inspired a few people? Or maybe it’s just a calm before a spam storm LOL  Smiley

I just did 13 with 91% accuracy; I hope I improve this year and get some good accuracy. Thanks for the advice as well.
Its perfectly normal to have somewhat lower accuracy when you first start reporting, especially before you get the access to report history (you get that after 300 good reports) as it gets easier to figure out bad reports if you report in bulk.
If you want to reach those 300 good reports asap, probably the best place for that is altcoin board due sheer amount of shitposts there.

How will it be 100% for the entire report of 5059 posts while 5,000 as said to be good and 38 are marked as bad report?
It looks like this percentage is rounded up, so it would be 99% only if OP had 50 bad reports.

I also report very often, but sometimes, unfortunately, the moderators do not agree with me.
Lol... But of course, they don't always have to agree with you since we all aren't homogeneous in our thoughts. However, if they agree with you more than they disagree with you it means you're doing something right and that should be the consolation. I'm far behind on this report thing. Nevertheless, I think I should pay more attention to it this year.

I am by no means the top reporter as I know there a a good few members who spend a lot of time reporting. I usually spend 20 mins a day if I can and yes it can become quite addictive  Smiley
If you do fancy reporting I’d advise to really stick to a board you are interested in and f comment/ follow a lot in.

That's really a whole lot of reports with 100% accuracy. I just did 13 with 91% accuracy; I hope I improve this year and get some good accuracy. Thanks for the advice as well.

That is it, the one I referred to was the one in the image. The OP, yourself and several other members have seriously excelled at this and it should make the rest of us ask how many reports should we be making. I mentioned elsewhere in a different thread I need to report more, hopefully I will be able to. Even though I would never reach those stunning statistics, I really should be contributing more to the forum by way of reporting posts.

Thank you once more. The post you had in mind is this one:

Thank you once more. The post you had in mind is this one:

After a "reporting spree" at beginning of the year when, for a few months, I managed to have even 15.000 reports within a month (for a few months in a row), I come back with my lattest results:

I am still aiming to that 100% accuracy, which is -- it seems -- sooo hard to get Smiley And, whenever I feel very close to reach it, I realize that I'm still stuck at 99% Smiley Nevertheless, I'll still work on it!

Or, maybe this one, made by theymos?

has any moderator so far explained exactly what is crucial in approving the deletion of reported posts?
on only 3440 reported posts, I have 14 bad, and 14 unhandled. although I'm pretty sure all unhandled absolutely deserve to be deleted. I would really like to hear the moderator's opinion on why they left it unhandled. not only in my case but in general for everyone, especially reported by users who have a high percentage of accuracy.

I believe there was already a discussion about this, but I haven't seen the mod's confession until now.

If you ever need an explanation on a report you've made, and it's within my sections I can probably help you out. However, obviously there's cases where I haven't acted upon it, and won't know what's going through the mind of other moderators. Although, for unhandled reports I can usually give you some sort of idea why it wasn't handled. As for, being marked bad; I can sometimes give you an idea.

I don't mind answering these questions in personal messages. I've had a few users come to me, and I can't always give you a definite answer, but might be able to give you some reasons why it may have been handled the way it was. So, feel free to message me about any issues.

I guess its all about how obvious is that post reported broke one of the forum rules.

That's very low amount of unhandled reports considering how many you reported, and i am sure all of us think the same about our unhandled reports.  Grin

I remember seeing mods discussion it so I looked it up a little bit and this is what I found and its pretty much as I thought it is. So instead giving us bad report in the end, they rather chose to let it stay unhandled so it doesn't affect report percentage.

Yeah, definitely borderline reports are more likely to stay in unhandled status than straight forward cases. I'll need to come up with some examples, which I was struggling for the other day. I was going to do it for my reporting effectively guide I made a few years ago. There's just some instances were a soft bad is more appropriate than handled it as a bad report, and it's usually something along the lines of a borderline case.

One example would be malicious links or distributing malware. While the moderator might agree that it looks malicious, verifying that can sometimes be difficult, and hence they can sometimes go unhandled, which isn't ideal, but verifying something like that is rather difficult. There's a lot of work involved actually verifying whether something is unsafe. Users reporting tend to rely on online virus checkers, but they routinely false flag mining programs as an example.

If the admin/mods did their jobs we wouldn't have to report anywhere near as many posts which, like previous posters, go "unhandled" seemingly through indifference.
I don't think that "unhandled" means indifference, its more often about mods/admins not wanting to mark report as being bad, so they leave it unhandled.

Beside admins/mods being way more strict, the other way to reduce amount of reports needed by other members is forum has more of them, preferably each board having different mod so they can browse through every new topic and moderate it (the way its been done in some other forum I visit). Since mods here are paid for their work, I don't think that's going to happen.

Its taken me a while but I’ve finally done it ! 5000 good posts reported  Smiley
An excellent milestone. Congratulations  Smiley

I stopped reporting posts regularly a long time ago but really do need to start stepping up and doing my part for the community too.

I, myself, don't report on a daily basis. But when I start reporting I make a campaign which may last a few months, and all this time all I'm doing is mostly reporting spam. I even barely make a few posts per week. My last reporting campaign took course between last winter and this spring and I even had days when I reported more than 1000 posts in a single day. I just stayed in front of the monitor, for 8 hours per day or so, and report each spam I encountered. It was difficult to stop and take a break Smiley

However, together we keep this forum clean! We do this for us, we do this also for the forum, to keep it up compared with other forums! Sincere congratulations to all contributing to this activity and also to those which did it in the past!

Probably the thing that annoys me most in that I can report the same member every day and yet they continue to post the same thing ? Is this a bannable offence ?

Anyway, after a wee Xmas break, I’ll get back on it  Smiley

Congrats, Mbitr, for your achievement!

As a dedicated reporter which I consider myself to be, I realize that your effort was not easy. Searching for spam, reporting the unnecessary posts, writing the reason for reporting -- all these require time and dedication (if you do all the work manually). It takes hours and hours and then some more hours... I also know it may seem frustrating at some points seeing that such hard and noble work is only pure volunteering, but I also know that users' appreciation (including mods') represent a lot. At least, they mean a lot for me. Besides, seeing your name in the yearly update which theymos posts is a great incentive!

Other than that, I have to agree with The Sceptical Chymist:

Once you start actively looking for reportable posts, sometimes it does get addicting because they're everywhere (though a lot of the crappiest of crap tends to be concentrated in only a few sections).

This is indeed amazing and i hope some members will learn from this than taking the law into their hands by leaving negative feedbacks on user's  account than reporting to the moderators for proper administration, there's no doubt that we have a daily inflow of spammers and trollers into the forum and same way we cannot judge every post we did not comply with to our standard by tagging them with neural feedbacks synonymous to negative one by the comment made, when the moderators are saddled with such responsibility to either delete posts or move them to appropriate channel, for you to have done this OP means alot, I personally learnt something from your commitment and determination to help filter the forum by reporting to moderators than tagging indescriminately, keep it up.
In some cases, neutral tag may not have much impact on the spammer's reputation. Some spammers who start to care about the quality of their posts will eventually manage to remove those neutral tag from whoever provided them. I know some users who tagged neutral for spammers, but I believe the trust system is not for handle spammers.

OP, you have a great job. I thought once create this thread you'd get some mentions in the community awards thread of the year. LOL

My number of unhandled cases is approaching my total reported cases, which is embarrassing to say the least. I've not been reporting as much as I used to in the past because I mostly post on self-moderated gambling threads and no longer see most of those shit posters.

You must be addicted to reporting spam and shitty posts lol.. good job buddy
I think I've got over 4000 reports since 2015, but the majority of them were done in 2017-18 IIRC because I was on a binge like OP seems to be.  Once you start actively looking for reportable posts, sometimes it does get addicting because they're everywhere (though a lot of the crappiest of crap tends to be concentrated in only a few sections).

Distributing merits is a huge responsibility, and you're right about reporting addiction; I used to be addicted to reporting, but I'm not anymore, probably because I see more quality posts than trashy posts these days.

If this reporter badge suggestion has been implemented, you would have gotten the top badge already based on the initial proposition. I hope theymos does consider implementing it at a later time, as he seems to work on his own time.

Congratulations OP, and thank you for helping keep the forum clean from spam. I have barely reported enough to be able to view the status of my reports, but find myself reporting less and less with time.

Oh but watch out, you could be accused for supporting ''censorship'' in bitcointalk if you report posts from certain sensitive individuals or terrorists Wink
My stats are much worse than yours and I can be lazy with reporting posts sometimes, but I currently have only 2521 good reports and I know this number can be better.

I used to see a lots of reportable posts in the past, but now I can barely find an interesting topic to post and have a discussion, maybe it's due to holidays? I don't know.
One of the most confusing boards for me is the project development, I get very confused about reporting a post or topic there.
Using pc makes it easier to report, because I provide links to boards for mods, with a mouse it's faster, reporting with a mobile phone is time consuming.

Thank you for you'r contribution Op 👏👏👏.

Not sure if all the reports have improved the forum over the years, but I've certainly noticed there are a lot fewer zero-value posts floating around.  In any case, keep reporting those fuckers OP.  May their posts burn in the furnace forever.

It depends on what you report: obvious spam gets deleted quickly, but posts that are largely off-topic in a Meta thread often don't get deleted.
I try to ignore reporting post from meta and reputation, I think most of my unhandled/bad reports are from these two boards, maybe I was too stupid to identify the post quality. But whenever I have reported spam post of off topic from local thread, it was deleted and I think I got 100% accuracy there only (not sure if mod deleted or thread creator deleted though) lol.

Congrats on reporting more than double your own post count! For years, I've tried to report at least the same number as I've posted, but I can't keep up.

It's pretty hard to get 100% accuracy. I have only 95% accuracy though it was way below back in the day if I can remember correctly. But I'm improving this day by day.

I don't know why mods don't agree with my reports a lot of times, and that happens mostly in the global board. I have reported a few post which either repetitive or off topic but sadly mod didn't take action.

I am not hypocrite, but you are better than me in numbers. So far I have reported posts in some board of this forum with 100% accuracy, but I very rarely visit altcoin forum for reporting purposes only. I can just focus on reporting them, but I tend to do that on board I visit regularly. OP, of course your contribution wouldn't really get noticed if you didn't tell him, it's a job in the dark that actually makes a big contribution to the forum.
