Was just doing some grunt calculations to see if my PSU has the extra juice free. Looks like I'll be fine.

About 150W full load.
You need a Kill-a-watt or similar. Actual consumption varies wildly depending on GPU and memory speed, voltage, which miner you use, and which parameters you use with it.
Referent 5850 draws 151W including the fan.
Referent 5870 draws 188W (put it 190W).
OC editions of 5870 draw more - Gigabyte's SO is running at 950/1250 by default. Lowering the mem clock from 1250 to 625 or even less will do the trick to close the gap between 190W and 230W which is my measurements in the last 2 weeks over 58xx series. Definitely 5970 is the best choice when we are talking about Cost per Mhash and Mhash per Power consumption ratios. Especially with latest mining apps with BFI_INT support.

...but what's "full load"?
a stock card at 99%? a card with the MemClock knocked down to 300Mhz? is it over-volted? is the GPU over-clocked?
a Kill-A-Watt is what you want.

Get a wall plug that shows power consumption (here in Europe @ Amazon <20€) and you have it for exactly YOUR system!
