This guy is correct. Eventually when the 7xxx series comes out the 6xxx series will see a drop in price and become just as effective.

The best price/performance/watt is 5850 ( around 380-400 MH/s, @930+ core ). 6970 is too expensive to buy ( at least for me ). Break even would be at least couple of months.

I have 2 5830s and im only getting 474 - 486 mhash in ubuntu no gui stock machine using sapphire extreme 5830s ...

Yeah pound for pound, the 68xx cards are simply more expensive.

The 6870 is the only real 68xx mining card. At the current prices of around 155 they don't compare to a 5830. In the future hopefully the price will go down though

How do you achieve 325Mhash/s on multiple 5830s? Like, how's your cooling set up? I'm assuming you're running them at a tad over 1GHz core and around 300-340MHz memory? That's what it would take for mine but the temps aren't comfortably sustainable so I ease back a bit. Using phoenix 1.6.2/phatk2 on linuxcoin btw

I have 1020 / 320 mem and aggression at about 8 or 9 with fans at 80% and they have been stable
This is in a FULL tower antec 1200 case with plenty of airflow in an air conditioned room. Cards stay at about 70c

False. The hardware is different (the 6xxx have had hardware stripped off as compared to the 5xxx).

I stuck with the 58xx series myself. All were 5850's bar one 5870.

I just recently sold them for virtually the same price that I purchased them new to a fellow miner.

The stats I've seen say 325/393 MH/s for 5850/5870 vs 217/278 MH/s for 6850/6870.

Does that jibe with current performance using the latest mining software/SDK/kernels?

the 6xxx series is just a re bandaged 5xxx series. Some new cards ,but for the most part they are just old cards with updates from the 6xxx series.

The 58XX cards are just physically more powerful than their 68XX counterparts, so they always be a bit faster at bitcoin mining.

Hey guys,

What's the current state of things on the 58xx vs 68xx series cards?

I know that 58xx cards used to be much faster for bitmining than their 68xx counterparts.
Is that still the case or have updated drivers, etc. fixed the problem?
