I've ran 6 before. You can run up to 8. If you have ever installed a newer version of the amd driver you will have trouble. When you uninstall the amd drivers you need to make sure these files get deleted.

C:\Windows\System32\amdocl64.dll
C:\Windows\System32\amdoclcl64.dll
C:\Windows\System32\OpenCL.dll
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\amdocl.dll
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\amdoclcl.dll
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\OpenCL.dll

Then install just the display driver.

thanks for your answer but it's not clear for me which version should I install?
I'm not sure if you need to run the newest version with those cards or not. I would try 13.11 then try the newest version if that doesn't work.

in windows 7 use 12.8 drivers or if you feel lucky 13.1 may require you to uninstall all AMD drivers and reinstall them again after a restart
also do a custom install and select everything except the display driver and audio driver restart again and then run install and custom install again and install the display driver

I have the following setup: asrock 970 exterem 4, 4gb ram, Athlon II 270, 5 x sapphire r9 280x, four 1x-16x and one 16x-16x powered extenders. I have two partions, one with win7 and on the other win8. On both system I've installed the latest beta5 amd drivers. In win8 I can see all five cards but because I have stability issues with cgminer and hate win8 I'd rather use the good old win7. The problem is only 4 cards are working there, the fifth has a code 43 error. I've searched the web for the last couple hours, found topics about this issue, some solutions too, modified 12.1 drivers for example, but non of them worked for me. Is there an up to date solution for the problem?

Thanks in advance
