Haha can now finally post

PM'd this to walidzohair but thought I'd post it for the benefit of anyone else that was having issues

I had the same issue with a HD6950
It was unable to get EDID information from my 19" screen after installing the driver so it was trying to drive it at 1600x1200 resolution
So I used Ctrl+Alt+F1 to login to a command prompt
sudo nano /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Then added Modes "1280x1024" "1024x768" to the SubSection Display
1280x1024 is the resolution of my display 1024x768 was just for backup

So the section looks like this
SubSection "Display"
       Viewport    0 0
       Depth        24
       Modes "1280x1024" "1024x768"
EndSubSection

Obviously pick a mode that suits your screen save the xorg.conf and restart

If you are looking for any other clues you can scan the xorg log file but using something like
cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log |less

Hope it's helpful

Oh and I did as described here http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Main_Page too for both Maverick and natty Smiley.

and as described here too https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/ATI

and the only way to get my GU back is to purge the drivers and restore the old xorg.cof file (which contain nothing).

I mean is there a point where I should be checking for the hardware if it is faulty or if the ports are faulty ? I did test the output both the crossfire cables connected and not connected on the two cards

I still can ssh .. As i installed openssh-server before installing the driver. but no GUI no VNC and no mining of course.

I tried the 4 dvi ports and teh built in vga port with no joy.

Do you see the normal BIOS and startup and then it goes black... or it's always black?

Have you tried musical plug to see if there's a single DVI port active for some reason?

I did exactly what is described here

http://forum.bitcoin.org/index.php?topic=3356.msg47489#msg47489 to activate the two cards on Ubuntu Mavrick .. but once the first reboot is issued there is no GUI and monitor displays no signal.

Also the same for Ubuntu Natty http://forum.bitcoin.org/index.php?topic=7514.msg110334#msg110334 just upon the reboot no GUI and no signal on monitor

Cards have dvi output and I use converter to get the first one to a normal LCD display.

every command described in the tutorials just does not work afterwords.

any help ?
