These are some VERY basic calculations:

7870 = 400Kh/s = .0032 btc per 24 hour period (ltc at .008 per 24 per 1Mh/s).  $135 is about = .208 btc making that card break even in 65 days if you're not counting electricity.

270 = 450Kh/s = .0036 btc per 24 hour period (ltc at .008 per 24 per 1Mh/s).  $150 is about = .231 btc making that card break even in 65 days if you're not counting electricity.

270x = 450Kh/s = .0036 btc per 24 hour period (ltc at .008 per 24 per 1Mh/s).  $170 is about = .262 btc makign that card break even in 73 days if you're not counting electricity.

There are some variations in the cards and those are just "average" hashrates, but looking at the info the regular 270 is the best investment as it is a newer generation card than the 7870 and will hold resell value longer as such.  If you're only looking at return and best deal the extra $20 for the 270x is not worth the investment.

There is my opinion in a quick google search it appears the 270 also has the lowest typical power consumption!

hi guys,

a friend of mine is selling his brand new vga cards and i would be interested in tacking some of them. what would be your choice if you have to build a 5 cards rig:
msi oc 7870 135usd each
msi gaming 270 150usd each
msi gaming 270x 170usd each

the rest of the rig is:

msi z77a-g45
cooler master 1200w
16go ddr3 1600
hd 320go
