True man, I don't wanna damage my GPU over a few bits of LTC either. Just not worth it. I try to keep the temp below 72 at all times. On a hot day, I just set the inten bit low so that the temps again remain below 72.
No more than about 85 degrees (but now I don't let anything get over 80 and target temp is less than 70) - when I discussed it in another thread, the general consensus was that the GPU fans probably failed and then the chips cooked themselves. Either way it was painful to see when I checked on them in the morning. Now when the outside temp rises I shut them down for a couple of hours if they reach over 80. Better to have a GPU than a few extra bits of a BTC...

That's about standard for a 7950 with no overclocking so you are doing OK.
If you are in a cool environment - then you might consider running cgminer with overclock parameters - but you need to monitor your temp for a few days or you could damage your GPU if it over-heats.
I run a 7950 with these parameters (1025 mhz is the overclock setting - default for this card is 900 mhz)
-I 9 -w 256 --auto-fan --temp-target 70 --auto-gpu --gpu-engine 1025
If you have 2 gpus in one box you pass multiple mhz values - e.g.
-I 9 -w 256 --auto-fan --temp-target 70 --auto-gpu --gpu-engine 1025,950

Thanks for the settings. I will try these. Are you also using 7950s for ltc mining? If yes, which one? msi? sapphire? or gigabyte?
Actually I only mine BTC - I beleive you use -I 13 instead of -I 9 for LTC - I have two 7950's both msi. I did have 3 but one burnt out - which is why I am paranoid about the heat now...

I am using cgminer for litecoin mining so Mh/s in bitcoin is Kh/s for litecoin. Its the same thing necessarily.
So now with that in mind, is the performance still bad?

Well, if your comparing to whats on here https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining_hardware_comparison#AMD_.28ATI.29 then your on the low end of the spectrum, but depends how far you want to go, is it a dedicated rig? if so get it going with linunx rather than windows, do you care about fan noise and possible wear over time of the graphics card, if not then overclock the thing.
Yea according to the stats there, I am not doing a great job but I haven't overclocked the card or anything because its not a dedi rig, I am using this for gaming some times. I want the cards to live longer.

looks kind of bad, unless this is a weird thing in CGminer, it should say Mh/s which would be about right, but it doesn't it says Kh/s which would mean your card is doing 100x less than expect, but maybe this is just me, otherwise, no hardware faults and the temperture is well below the recommended, you could probably push it a bit further with some good overclocking, also are you currently underclocking your GPU's memory at all?
