@ OP
"Who's going to be the first to try out a 7990?"
http://www.reddit.com/r/litecoinmining/comments/1d0vwz/whos_going_to_be_the_first_to_try_out_a_7990/c9lyf99

1x 7990 : $1000 - 1200Mhah with OC and Tuning
2x 7970 : $800 - 1400mhash with OC and Tuning

you think you about it...

the calculated ROI on a 7990 is about 6-9 months depending on difficulty at the time.
You need to consider more than just the cost of the cards.

Why has no one mentioned 7950?

- less power
- ~630 hash
- at least $100 cheaper than 7970, more if you sell the games that come with it or get a rebate

More bang for the buck imo.

If you are not fear say "overclocking" - buy 7950. Otherwise - 7990.

You are best mining PowerCoin with two overclocked 7950s. Most power efficient, yet good hash rate.

It requires 1800W (GPUs only). It won't be easy to buy such a PSU. Smiley

Are you sure you want to get into mining gpu with all the ASIC hitting the market? AM just sold 40 new rigs in the past few days, that's 400 combined GH/s

Anyone know how may 7970's I could fit in the Rampage 4 Extreme board? Reference or non ref? Thanks!

Four should be possible, but cooling could be a problem (i've solved it by building cardboard walls between the cards, so the top cards don't get the heat from the bottom cards), as well as your case. Most cases have only 7 slots, if you get yourself a fulltower, they usually have 9 slots for PCI cards, so it would fit.

Another option is building it like a real miningrig, No housing!

You could probably fit 2[7970s]. However, it is based on how many slots you have as you can get x1 to x16 extenders ect. and then use powered risers in order to be able to power them.

iv mined using 5970's and 5870's a while abck and used them both together in rigs, you'll get more chips on the board with the dual cards but be prepared to pay more for them and they make a lot more noise than the singles.   other than that its pretty much identical, all depends on how many you want to fit on a single board and if your worried about noise.

Thinking about making a late entry into mining but I want to come in strong and probably mine ltc. I have a Rampage 4 Extreme sitting in a Corsair 600t, powered by Corsair's 1200 Professional PSU.

Not sure if I should get 7970's or go for 7990's?

I want to know if I could fit 4 7970's on air on this board? I would imagine they would have to be reference boards to fit and get the heat out of the case or am I pretty much stuck at 3 of them. Does it matter much if I go for reference or non-reference if I stick with 3?

What about the 7990's? Newegg has the Devil13's available from Powercolor which I believe are unlocked. If I wanted to stick 2 of them in my system, would both fit and would that be the better option in my situation? My CPU is watercooled with h100 and I am nto sure if I want to watercool the gpu's so I want to know if I could fit 2 7990's on air in my case.

Please help, thanks guys. I'll send a few LTC for a nice, detailed answer since I am planning on spending a pretty dime soon.
