I think you found the problem I did, the longer cables are a lot more susceptible to noise especially when bundled with a bunch of other riser cards. I think it has something to do with crosstalk, seems to get worse the more cards you add. You might try just using aluminum HVAC ducting tape, like aluminum foil tape, to wrap and shield the ribbon cables.

The USB 3.0 cable is designed to carry around the same bandwidth as a 1x link, and the signal pairs are individually twisted and shielded. These cables are 1M long, and even bundled on top of each other. I've tested three different setups...

All of these have been super stable, uptimes close to weeks on the sapphire 280x one without issue on xubuntu.

The seller's name is sintech.cn, you'll see them if you google that. The problem is they used to be $10ea, but now he charges $30+...

I've been trying to replicate them, and I am about to order some PCBs. I should have a bunch made up before January, when my cards get here  Grin

also, it looks like there is a group buy being organized for these cards.

the seller is also on aliexpress with slightly different pcie1x riser (side mount vs top mount)

I have some top mount ones and love them. I paid $16 a pop, feel your pain on the current $30+ pricing

edit: btw ... bad ass.  is this hosted in some kind of lab (university/work?) with the raised floor and hvac setup?

woot i can finally reply now!

Pontiacg5, i had seen a post of yours asking for pcb design, I found the usb3.0 cable risers on ebay, bought one and will clone it.  If you're still looking for a designer, pm me.   I can clone these for around 7-10$ in parts, give or take (haven't BOM'd out a list yet).

alternatively, you can email me at evanrich81[at]gmail[dot]com

You've been around for a while. Surely you know you're posting in the wrong place?

Where would it go?

Did you start before the bubble? I'm still waiting for 60 280x cards, I wasn't able to find any after that mess but did have a few dozen from my preliminary testing luckily.

Have you seen the USB riser cables? They work really well, but they got crazy expensive.

We bought everything during the bubble. Started mining after the crash.

Hmm I haven't. Could you link me?

Here is a post of my problem:

Think you mean MH/s  Cheesy

Very nice!

Yes thanks hehe. The cards are supposed to sit on the rack above so they "float". I have them 3 plugged directly temporarily.

I'm glad we got a good deal on the R9 290 cards, I see they went up in price like $130 each!

108 R9 290's
27 rigs

Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD5
4x AMD R9 290 Video Cards
AMD 4130 CPU
EnerMax 1500W PSU
Western Digital 2.5" 160GB HDD
Mix of Crucial Balistics and Samsumg OEM RAM - 8GB

I am having problems with my long 12" risers. I am going to mod them to make them Molex powered to see if that will make them work
