It is possible to use as a PR, and not a bad reputation for Bitcoins. This news gives poor protection of the bank, and that is this fear, but rather the very hacker donation in a good light.

He wouldn't make a very good bitcoiner. Everyone knows you're supposed to open an exchange in your moms basement, steal Bitcoin then convert it to cash as quickly as possible. He steals cash, buys bitcoins and then gives them away. He's doing it wrong.

You cannot correct one evil will another evil.... You steal with one hand and caress with the other? I would have done it in another way.... Hack the site or address and then return ALL the money. I

would then ask the owner for a donation to reveal my method for him to rectify his/her security problems. So you are rewarded for the work and the time you took, to sort out their exploits. I will

then donate that money to a good cause. Unfortunately not every hacker on this planet is the same... only White hats does things like that.  Roll Eyes

Mature perspective. While I'm pretty sure there is little love lost for the likes of ISIS, this way is not the way to go about this. Poor publicity given the media loves to emphasize all the criminal applications of bitcoin. Why fuel the fire? And hell yes poor bank. We like to vilify the banking system, but it's not the system, it's the bad actors within the system that make it a shitshow.

The wages of sin are never positive, in my limited experience.

I like the idea but worry about the Middle East dynamics down the road. A lot of the opposition groups could become issues in the future as they push their own agendas into the limelight or achieve more sway. Would rather the money went to areas that could truly use it but again this is his personal issue and therefor his outlook being reinforced by funding the opposition.

Rojava Plan, the beneficiaries of Fisher’s donation were not available for comment. According to its campaign page, the money will go towards “feeding the revolution” after much needed imports were cut off as a result of the conflict with ISIS.

The hacker who had stolen the funds from the bank donated the Bitcoins to a Kurdish region of Syria that borders a territory held by ISIS. He is not supporting ISIS but people who want to fund a revolution against ISIS. Anyway this can be considered ethical hacking but I don't condone his actions as the money he stole from the bank may have belonged to every day normal people. But the bank must cover everyone's losses so I think in the end it will be fine so I am kinda neutral on this one.

Well he doesn't look robinhood per se. Robinhood steal from rich and gave it to the poor. ISIS group isn't poor, they can launch war. poor don't do that, they rather buy food on their table not ammunition.
He isn't Robinhood he is a terrorist that's what he is.

poor bank

 Cry

Deposits in a bank don't belong to the bank. They belong to the customers. Poor customers! I think this is negative news. Customers don't deserve to be stolen from, and the thief seems to think donating a tiny portion to fighting isis makes it all right - but it doesn't.

But i think that group which received donation will not be able to spend or use those bitcoin after hacker revealed from which bank those money were stolen and if they find the bitcoin source tainted and related to that robbery money definately they will try to froze that campaign and took the money. Hacker shouldn't have revealed this.

I would say that this is kind of a positive news article. The idea of a 'robin hood' hacker was always difficult. On one side you have a person who breaks the law and steals, on the other side, they use the money to do good. While I do disprove of such actions in general, at least they have properly used the money. I was not aware of that website nor that one could directly donate with both Bitcoin and Faircoin.

Where would the world be if most of the hackers either stole from banks or donated to proper causes?
