If that prediction is as accurate as the one where LTC would be sold off with the BTC halving I'll take it. Cheesy

Well, I just prefer it that crooks aka botnet operators can't easily mooch off the currency I'm using.
To me, it's a useful feature ... everyone can decide for himself.

Let's think about it...

On the one hand, some bad guys might be theoretically profit of LTC.

On the other hand, an average Joe with a GPU knows that LTC can be mined by average Joes like him, however BTC requires some expensive, highly specialized devices.

Won't Joe perceive LTC as a more democratic, open currency?

Note that Joe might not fully understand how ASICs work, he only knows that some highly specialized devices he doesn't understand are used to secure the network, and they are produced only by a handful of specialized companies. What if government is in this and it wants to control the currency?

I bet Joe would rather trust his GPU...

I remember back when I jumped into LTC where it was really nice to mine with a CPU, this back in Jan-Feb I created a silent LTC miner to spread so I could botnet mine. It didn't turn out too well... I bought my rig, and I tried it again, and it still wasn't that good. Majority of the LTC that I had gotten back when I would do that would go back to the LTC community. Sent some coins to pooler, coblee, and countless other people that made a difference in LTC and those that just simply needed a few coins. I realized that it wasn't the best way to get LTC, and the money put into get installs(bots) isn't much profitable. So, coming from a pre-botnet LTC miner, there won't be much botnet mining on LTC.

Also, I'm not to blame for the cpuminer being detected by AV's. It's those who tried to botnet mine and did not succeed. The ideology may be wrong or may be wrong in the near future, but for right now it's been correct.

Observation: If one bought 100$ of LTC 6 months ago, it would have appreciated (compared to USD) just as much as BTC has.

If this trend continues long term ... it's interesting.
It will be interesting to see whether ASICs change this.
My prediction - ASICs will hurt LTC.

I think the opposite prediction is more reasonable.

Bot nets won't do much.

Unless those botnets have GPU farms attached to them, they will pale in comparison to someone running a large GPU farm.

Botnets are irrelevant to LTC.

They effectively make BTC the only botnet-immune coin.
If LTC is valuable (appreciates vs USD just like Bitcoin does), it is/will be mined by botnets as opposed to Bitcoin, that cannot be.

It would have appreciated more than 5 times than BTC. In May of this year 1 LTC was less than 0.5 pennies.

It depends on what else you do with your coins in 6 months time.

whats wrong with botnets mining? Did it really hurt BTC when botnets were a big portion of BTC mining?
