Hiya Green. You certainly have some good points, and your earnestness is admirable. Thing is, though, some people genuinely have no interest in vetting, in reading, in making an effort, or being responsible. You're welcome to encourage them to change their ways, of course, as has been done time and time again, but for the most part this is how it goes.

Yes, people need to learn. Learning is not necessarily a comfortable, cozy activity involving group hugs. Getting scammed surely sucks, but the solution is not expecting everyone else to be nice. It's not any sort of solution at all.

Hey guys, Green here.

I want to talk to you.

I've been lurking about this particular section of the forum recently watching the various difficulties we are experiencing in BTC space at the moment. Labcoin, this DPR shit, even the unfortunate demise of BTCT, it's a bit of heavy we don't really need at the moment. But, we are in reality, and these things have come to pass. Where do we go from here?

We go together.

Let me tell you a bit about myself.

I'm a 27 year old black technophile currently living in South Carolina. Really into sustainable horticulture. Really into bitcoin. Have some personal issues with current monetary policy that makes we want to see bitcoin fall into widespread adoption. I don't have to air those issues out because I'm sure a great number of you share them. Or similar concerns. It's a small matter.

I care about bitcoin because I honestly believe that it will change the game as far as distribution of wealth in the world.
I also care about bitcoin because I treat my holdings as an asset and wish for as much possible growth of my fortune.

So now that you have my platform, consider my message.

We have been behaving badly.

Now, I've never held a share of Labcoin in my life. I never really did vetting on it, was after asicminer took a dip and my interest in mining related securities started to wane. So I missed the hub bub about this (did see the thing with the ipo selling out all crazy style, was amused). So understand I address you not wielding FUD, or praise. I simply wish to examine what we can take away from all this.

First, we need to vet. Together.

Our fortunes are at stake. In the world, I'm hard pressed to give up my dollars. It's hard. I try to hand them to people and my fingers wont unclench Smiley I jest, but I attempt to illustrate that I don't easily part from my money. As should you. You work hard to earn that shit no matter what you do. By your sweat, or will, or both, you traded time and/or risk for it,and Its yours, dammit.

So why would we trust it with those that would not show us their face?

I am me. Dumbass statement, but true. I stand behind my actions because I wish to be held accountable for them. So when you encounter one that would obscure their identity, be wary. This is one who does not stand behind his actions and words. But we didn't catch this. And I say we because I mean all of us that participate in trading these securities. Because if you did figure something out, individuals, we sure as hell didn't heed it as a group until it was too late. We need to eliminate the adversarial spirit that permeates this forum. We are all adopters and have a vested interest in this. Let's come together in the future, and work to publicly and transparently confirm these business entities/ventures and share that information with each other. I wish to preserve and grow your wealth as well as mine, and I hope you wish the same for me too.

Next, lets address the haterism.
Stop.

Let's not be the asshat in the room that decides to make the worst of an already bad situation. Morale is down. The troops took a beating. Lets pick each other up from this, and brush each other off, and learn. Synthesis of ideas, together, is one thing. This isn't that. When it is all said and done, if this thing does go more sour than it has, there is only one direction to point a finger at if you are so inclined. The "shared antagonist".

So stop trolling. And stop the FUD (meh, I guess you can't really say FUD this late in the game, can you?). Stop the negativity, then. There are those that saw in advance and tried to warn others; hold your peace and rest on the satisfaction that you were right. And lament on it as well. On the other hand, those that defended this thing, you behaved rationally as well. Your wealth is your survival, and anything that threatens my wealth is like a personal attack to me. It is rational to go down with a ship if you can not perceive it sinking. There is no shame in this. But the fools that bring discord here for amusement or personal vindication, leave. You have forgotten the face of your father.

Lastly, and most important, because of all of this, this will be what I take the most shit for, I want to ask everyone to take this one. As a team, for the team.

We fucked up. I don't know everybody's individual situations, but suffice it to say if this post means anything to you, most likely you suffered a loss a value as a result of this thing. But we must accept responsibility for the beast we traffic with. These securities are unregulated. These exchanges offer no guarantee of security. This is indeed the Wild Fucking West, with offerings as exotic as stocks that generate currency (not a dividend mind you, its like owning shares of a mint Smiley ). Rates of return that the traditional financial world would kill for. The reward is great in BTCspace, but the risk is commisurate. Don't invest money you cannot afford to lose...... Don't invest money that you cannot afford to lose, dammit.

If you didn't lose an amount of value that threatens the current/future survival of you/your loved ones, take this one on the cheek as a hard lesson. Don't involve the authorities in this. Some of us in the BTCspace don't mind regulation, but don't wish for the particularly heavy handed brand of regulation that our government tends towards. This is why things like the SEC exist. Because things like this have happened before. And will continue to happen. When you diverge from normality, you suffer the attendant pros (and cons) of non participation.

The cats out of the bag already (believe that some government agency monitors this forum, esp since the Silk Road shit). If it will be resolved, filling this space with bad isn't really going to affect the outcome. Its just going to turn off someone that heard about btc from a friend and did a little research. Which is bad for the business,  Wink OUR business.

Now, if you got burned badly in this, you honestly don't have a choice. Your net worth has taken a serious hit, and you need to seek an avenue of repair. Contact the authorities this time. Don't let there be a next time. Don't endanger those around you that depend on your finances to survive like this again. But I don't have to say that to those in this category. I'm sure you are well aware.

So, the takeaway, people. Play nice. And play together. We will all have more fun this way. We are an ummah, a community. Let's behave like one.

-Green
