Before you lock it I should say that how USB-C devices handle being fed at straight 28vdc is -- questionable. The standard defaults to using 5v and uses inter-device handshake (negotiation) to use the higher voltages... I think that breakout cable will not have the logic in it to do that...

I followed your advice and used the dell psu  it is switching usb-c

it is possibly the exact psu you buy from cannan but more likely it is a step better and does 165 w.

this is the dell.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CL6PR2V9?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

based on your advice I did not try the breakout cable option.

I advise anyone wanting the nano 3 to either get the 165 watt dell linked above

or the oem psu.

eventually I may fuck with the breakout option cable but I am thinking it will never exceed medium speed or 100 watts safely.

I decided to lock this thread and not compare the Apollo II units or the bit axe or any of sidehacks newer gear.

I will however show the nano 3 and

my 1 board s19 xp
my 1 board s19 pro 110 th

my 1 board t21

They can all run at 120 volts
They can be as low as 75 watts the nano 3

they range from 2.2 th all the way up to 53 th

the new thread will be set up sometime after Sunday the 27th. of April 2024

It also means increased complexity and therefore increased likelihood of failure, which increases the likelihood that you'll have to replace it sooner and/or more often, which spells profit.
No doubt as now even the cables have chips in them to report what the cable is able do and how much power it can deliver...

At OP: Do be aware that the psu you linked to supports usb-c fast charging which per the ad:

which is different from the ordinary USB charging interface in that it has a 5V/3.6A output that can quickly charge your mobile phones and or other devices or be used to charge the device to be repaired.
so that is NOT a USB-C PD multi-voltage port.

Here is a USB-C PD 3.1 cable good for the full 100w/240w allowed https://www.unitek-products.com/products/usb-c-power-delivery-3-1-charging-cable

this psu lets me set at 28volts and 0.01-10.0  amps

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08HYK2ZW3?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

and this cable lets me hook up

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07VWD929M?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1

the the main terminal.

So I am doing a total run around on the new chip design.

more to see if it can not use the usb-c port the way they want to.

It is quite obvious they rushed the nano-3 out ideally it would be using a 48 volt to keep amps lower

but no they want to use 28 volt

I am annoyed at their design choice.  Basically if the miner just charged for an hour fine.  but the idea of running 28 volt at 5 amps non stop makes me think they did us no favors.

So I want to control the dc voltage with gear I can read the results with.

I do suspect that I will end up using this psu to run the second unit.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0CL6PR2V9/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

but I do have a curiosity as to what they did with the nano.

not going to try the breakout cable maybe down the road but not now

I'm definitely interested in the Nano 3 but the power supply being USB C seems.... odd to me.
 ...
I'll be following this post with interest
The reason for USB-C or more precisely, USB-C PD, is simple: It is becoming the standard for DC power delivery to small(ish) devices. ref https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2021/05/new-usb-c-type-2-1-standard-offers-up-to-240-w-power-delivery/
With PD's output voltage being negotiated between devices (5, 9, 12, 15, >20 & now 48v) it is a huge step to a truly 'universal' PSU.

It also means increased complexity and therefore increased likelihood of failure, which increases the likelihood that you'll have to replace it sooner and/or more often, which spells profit.

here is what I like about the gan psu’s

switching 5,9,12,15,20,24,28 which is really nice.

but 28 volts pulling 4.5-5.0 amps non stop 24/7/365 means the power cable needs decent change to handle that level of energy.

I looked for three days to find a usb-c cable that has 18 gauge red black power cables.

the best diy i found so far is this usb-c

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07VWD929M?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1

i think it will allow for full power run.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08HYK2ZW3?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

i will hook up that cable to the above power supply which likely is a good way to test the cable’s 24/7/365 ability.

So I am sitting in my bed with a dozen pillows bored out of my mind watching fox5 new york.
why is that. I have had my deviated septum repaired for a second time.
First repair was done in 1973 over time that repair failed. So I got it done again.

I have been reading all the threads on lower power models for the home miner.

I myself did a thread on the loki chip and a s19 xp single board miner.
There is the cannan nano 3
there is the futurebit 2
sidehack has a newer high end usb setup
bitmax has a built it yourself setup.

I plan to compare all of them.
Pointing out the flaws and the downsides.

Also I will balance things like noise.
At the moment I have the tv on laying in the bed and I am running the nano 3 under the bed pulling 98.8 watts. 3.01 the led off.

and it is pretty much silent. you can run it and your wife won’t get pissed off.

frankly i do not think anyone will be better than the nano 3 for being quiet.

Hey there, nice thread. Just wanted to share my experience with the Canaan Avalon Nano 3. I recently picked one up out of curiosity and connected it to the OCEAN pool.

I'm quite impressed with this little home heater/miner. It's surprisingly quiet even at max power and generates a good amount of heat. Plus, the small display even shows the time, adding to its functionality. I'll hold off on diving into more details until we finish our testing in a few weeks. Once that's done, we'll publish a full review on our website. If you want to check the real-time stats, you can have a look at the link of the miner on the OCEAN pool: https://ocean.xyz/stats/bc1qq44kn4rg0q44zg7xrd8ehg9gjvxx5nqrh89t7r. Looking to buy more for sure. Cheers

BY SOME TIME  next week

I will have 2 nano 3's
1 s19 xp with bit chimney and Loki using braiins controller
1 s19 xp with bit chimney and Loki using epic controller

^ ..above I know I can do.. ^

v.. below is an if ..v

I hope to have the 1 board t21 with Loki assembled and running by Friday the 30th low 50's maybe 60th max and maybe 1140 watts

and it can down clock to 20th and 380 watts
.

this would be the most powerfully  built 120 volt asic for sha-256

I will also setup a t21 using the epic controller and a Loki chip

which the idea of a 53 th 1000 watt miner

that can clock to 20 th 385 watts  will be cool

I will have todo more and grab other unit to cross compare these all have a place for a home mine
