I have worked with some of the people who you have worked with at DeCentral and Ethereum. I have also seen you in person but have never greeted you (you were busy at the time, and I was shy). I was actually at lunch today with a colleague and had learned that recently you stopped working on Ethereum. Is it alright if I ask why?

I think my statements in the video alongside my comments in my doctrine and the recording of my comments at Jimmy homma's ethereum group should speak for themselves.

I have heard a lot of things, positive and negative from people I know regarding you, and I also know that it's most always noise when it doesn't come straight from the source. Would it be rude of me to ask you some personal stuff on this site, like what happened and why some people have criticized you the way they have?

Without knowing the particular criticism it's hard to address. That said, I could elaborate on what I've heard.

First without a doubt I'm difficult to work with. I have extremely high standards when it comes to product design, a product's right to exist and what problems are priorities to solve. I view potential products like wannabes running a brutal gauntlet that probably will kill them. Simply put there isn't enough time in life to work on ugly solutions to non-existentry problems.

Unfortunately, this also means I can be unintentionally harsh to people. Some get better from it. Others grow to resent me.

Second, I tend to believe that most cryptocurrency tech isn't up to par for the problems we want to solve with it. There seems to be a fundamental lack of appreciation in this space for how long and how difficult it is to engineer reliable, secure distributive systems that are economically aligned to their intended purpose. Thus I've been unforgiving of many actors who have launched ICOs with the we'll figure it out later Attitude. I believe you shouldn't take the public's money unless you know damn well what you're doing. Let's be frank; Not a lot of people are solid here. They are young passionate and just learning to drive. Don't give them a damn Lamborghini as a sweet 16.

Third, I tend not to communicate well in certain cases. Often, I'm aware of a lot of moving pieces and make decisons given the whole board. Sometimes I don't communicate that well and not given the benefit of the doubt it can engender distrust or confusion. Add running a massively decentralized business and that can cascade.

Finally, philosophically I'm not an anarchist. I also believe there is a place for governments and it's ok to work with them and banks. I also don't subscribe to the whole decentralized everything movement. I think there is a spectrum from things that are ok to live in a curated and centalized world to things (like identity) that have to be as decentralized as possible. Obviously some people get upset about things like that. And it's fair. It's politics.

Mind you I don't know specifics because I didn't want to ask further on negative comments from third party sources (people love to play broken telephone). I just want to take this opportunity to hear it straight from the source especially when said source has been so famous and followed over the past 2-3 years. I have personally been following you ever since the bitcoin education project.

Not sure if I'm famous. I don't even get invited to conferences. But I appreciate the kind words.

If my question has been inappropriate, I understand and apologize. It is not my intention to put you in any sort of light, much less a bad one.

It's a fair question and I hope I answered it.

I hope you continue to apply your considerable talents to the industry regardless of what's happened thus far. Thank you for your contributions to Ethereum (I don't work for them anymore, but I do appreciate the scale of their ambitions even if they might seem naive to others)
.

I'll still be around for something somewhere. Maybe I'll finally have a chance to actually launch a product Instead of just enabling others to do so.

Thanks for indulging me, I knew I just hadn't been around long (or involved deep) enough to know the significant nature of your work. I'm sure you see all the new people coasting around here so I'm sure other newer folks appreciate the proper introduction to your name and the big projects you've founded!

I'll be sure to check out the discussion with deBitcoin youtube channel to educate myself!

Not sure how significant my work is. I've had the honor to work with some incredible people and it's definitely taught me a lot about both entrepreneurship and life. This ecosystem is definitely tough and at times suffers from some seriously bad actors. That said, there are a lot who have very big hearts like bruno.

I missed the live viewing, but just finished watching the recorded edition. It's always a pleasure to listen to Charles speak... right up there with Andreas Antonopoulos.

Full Disclosure: Charles owes me a dollar with this endorsement.  Cool

I founded the ethereum project with vitalik buterin and was it's ceo for some time. Also created bitshares with dan larimer. prior to that I was a theoretical mathematician studying analytic number theory and some topics in cryptography.

And, he tells guys that he loves them on an open mic during Bitcoin conferences.  Tongue Tongue Grin

Charles, I'm newer the community and I don't know your background or role in bitcoin. Mind sharing your experience, background, and notable projects or involvement (including and in addition to the Bitcoin Education Project) with those of us that don't know you?

Thanks.
