That game was really different from this one. This game always payout 2x of your bet in any way as long as the card is in the middle of the first 2 cards. And if the first 2 cards are same cards, the player will have to choose hi or lo and will get 2x of his money if he guessed it right.
Problem with your game is it has too high of a house edge and this no one would play it. Red dog offers higher payouts for when for example a 6 and 8 come up and only a 7 would win your bet.

Problem is quite the contrary, house edge is negative. Bet 0.00000001 BTC whenever there is a spread < 5 (like 2/4, 2/5, 2/6, 2/7, 2/8), bet 1 BTC when the spread is >=5 (like 2/9, 2/10 ...) and watch the bank getting busted within minutes.

enno's got it.

thats why i told laboboy to make the players set the Bets BEFORE any cards are shown.  if he insists on betting AFTER seeing the cards, he'll be BROKE very soon.  I will personally play the game take his money too.   Grin Grin
I see. I will try to recode it making them see the cards after betting.

This game was created a LONG time ago. The game is called Red Dog, you can find it in a lot of online casinos. Depending on how many cards are in between the first two cards determine the payout. There are different payouts and the game has less than a 5% edge.

Sorry to burst your bubble.

Cool idea, here we go Smiley

I've modified the game a bit:
- you can bet lo, hi + between
- you don't get 2x but the multiplier is calculated for each bet instead (up to about 12x)
- provable fair

https://www.satoshi-karoshi.com/?a=Inbetween.index

Its not cool to steal the idea
Seems that someone already created the game. But it is a bit different from the original game though.

Just make it so that all bets are before any cards are shown.  Because if bets are after the 1st two cards, this WILL happen, and the house will be made bankrupt very very quickly.

When 2 cards are shown, smart players will know his chances of winning right then and there.  He will then bet a lot of money when his chances of winning is +EV (expected value), and won't bet anything if it's -EV.  There are a lot of times when the 1st two cards provide +EV.

One simple example is if you hit 2 Aces or 2 Kings for your first two cards.  You're basically guaranteed a win (96% chance) as you're only ways to lose is to 1) either bet the wrong way and say higher or lower, when in fact, no cards could win the scenario, or 2) bet the right way, and happen to hit a third A/K.

If i were the player, i'd bet the max every single time this happened.  This is just the simplest example, there are a lot more cards that provide +EV for you to go broke as the house.

go with betting before any cards are seen.  it's still be a fun game i'd think, and you're protecting yourself a lot better from ruin

Also, if i were you, i'd make it so that they make the bet BEFORE any cards are shown...  If you don't, you're in for a nasty surprise and won't understand why your entire bankroll is disappearing before your eyes.
But if we actually make it appear after betting, that would actually like "cheating". That's why I suggested that the site should only allow the players to bet at a certain percentage of the bankroll to prevent bankrupt.

Going through the game and assuming that

1) the Player can only make a decision (High/Low) during a Tie of first two cards, and that a Tie on the 3rd card is a loss

2) all other situations, only if a card is in between the first 2 cards then a win is the considered outcome.  If the 3rd card is the same as either 1st or 2nd card, a loss is considered.

The house edge of this game is 21.6%.  WOW!!  Go build this game and then see if people will play! =D

You could always tweak the game rules to lower the house edge.
Those assumptions are actually right.

i'm trying to calculate the house edge for this game.

What happens if the 3rd card is a tie as well? does the player lose?

I'm fond of gambling and got an idea from my friends of a unique game. I already tried to code it in VB.NET and played it and it is really fun since there are large risks and large profits if you surpass those risks.

The game is what we call "In Between". Where the house will draw 3 cards from a 54 card deck and show the player the 2 first cards then let the player to bet at any amount he wants from the bankroll. After betting, the house shows the third card and when the player wins, He gets 2x of his bet and when he losses, the house gets his bet. And when the player got a pair, like a pair of aces, he can choose either higher or lower. When he guesses it right, he will get 2x of his bet, when he didn't, the house will get his bet. But when the cards are consecutives, like A,2 or 2,3, the house will shuffle the cards again then pick another 3 cards. (The house must shuffle every bet)

I would also recommend that the house should only make a % of the whole bankroll to prevent bankruptcy.

sounds interesting i would like to try it also. maybe start with beta version so we can try it and later make it pro?
