How is possibility that a programmed game can educate or impact someone knowledge of bitcoin during the process of play, let us be civil, actually if these can come to reality show us the sketch or an example of the game in via video let us know, because this era what we need is seen and believe, it's not that I'm demoralizing you, but your ideology is nice but show us prove of possibilities.

If it’s for the tech-savvy generation, then such a game might be a success. But if you are talking about the whole population, then this might fail. Not all people would be interested in playing a game when they know that all the information they are looking for is just a search away.

That's a good thing, most children nowadays prefer games, with this it is hoped that they can better understand the world of bitcoin through game intermediaries. lack of understanding about bitcoin for people makes them left behind and can't use bitcoin well. so with this I hope it will attract people to join in the world of bitcoin. I know that the decision to enter here is not an easy thing and we also have to be willing to accept the risk, but if we can manage it well then it will be very profitable.

If the target audience is the children I guess they didn't pay attention too much to how does the bitcoin work instead they are enjoying play but if the kid gets curious also with the range of the teenager there's a chance it might get into their curiosity. I don't remember the game I saw related to the blockchain it teaches me how does it work.

Agreed. Younger generation today have high standards when it comes to games or apps they put their time and attention, it has to be really entertaining and have good features. I think the purpose of the game would take effect to those teenagers who are able to comprehend such subject and who are getting curious of crypto. I think it would be nice if OP would do a trial phase for his game and gather feedbacks to determine what must be improved. Nonetheless, this is a great effort by OP.

You have done good work for the bitcoin promotion. Your effort shows your interest and skill in your trade & bitcoin, cryptocurrency. The teenager and youngsters are very eager to play games. because this is their age to play and learn .your effort is a project to learn bitcoin through games or play. It will develop some natural tendency and natural motivation in games and benefit them also to learn about business (trading, stalking, mining. etc). As a whole, I appreciate your work.
I thought that at first this game wouldn't be a good one but seeing how enthusiastic OP is and his/her target audience is the young people, I think that I can get behind this idea. Hopefully OP can make it more interesting because the attention span of young people aren't that long and they probably get bored if it's all repetition.

Sounds very interesting.

Could you tell us more about which platform the game is going to be launched on? I'd love to see a nice mobile mini-game that is both fun and educational, maybe something like QuizUp but people can earn BTC and altcoin rewards for completing quizzes and questionaires?

Could you share some sneak previews of the current progress?

I also want to know when OP will realse this informative game and will it be free to download for everyone ?

If it is licensed free, I may spread it to many children and teenages in my country.

You'll find it now as Teenies now in my place mostly replacing their games MMOPRG  to NFT games , majority of the teens in my surrounding are playing Axie infinity and Mir4 in which their parents (Even me) are happy because they are not only enjoying the games but they are also profiting from this specially in Pandemic time that Financial problem really occur.

To OP, I salute you for this effort and hope you'll extend more your hands in educating more and more people .

Hi all,

I recently started working on an educational game that informs the player about some of the important concepts about bitcoin and am looking for some feedback.

The target player is not an engineer or an economist, but a person on the street that still believes fiat is good and that we are fine with money controlled by the state.

The game is designed as a series of conversations between two people, one asks questions and the other responds. The responses almost always include a mini game where the player solves a simple task to understand the concept.

For example, the first game is a simple "scratch the screen" game to reveal the bitcoin emission schedule.

Here's a list topics for which I am currently developing mini games:

  • Inflation hedge. Digital Gold.
  • How to pay using Bitcoin. No need for Credit Cards or banks.
  • How payments work - mining intro.
  • Double spending is almost impossible.
  • Censorship resistance.
  • Fleeing a war zone with bitcoin.
  • Keeping it safe. Secret sharing.
  • Purity of bitcoin vis a vis gold purity tests.
  • Address the fear of losing coins.
  • Anonymity and privacy.
  • No banks or state or single miner or developer regulates Bitcoin. Essentially, "no one" regulates Bitcoin.

Would love to get any input on the list if topics. Is there something I am missing as the first introduction to someone new to bitcoin? Is there something I should take out?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

It's interesting because you introduce people not just to the concept, but also take an additional angle where you teach people what usually just comes with being tech savy, how to keep keys safe and so on. If it's just a conversation between two interlocutors you should try and introduce some sort of plot to keep people entertained, I've seen many mobile games that are really just short easy stories, and be very successfull at that, so don't shy away from a bit of backstory to this (maybe set the game around the 2008 market crash? Anything works really)

Game as a tool to inform and educate other people is a great idea. Most people are bored of scrolling in the internet about anything they wanted to know because of many things to read and so, and I believe game is great way to inform people. But in order for people to be interested in it, the game itself should be catchy and eye pleasing, which I know you can. Goodluck OP.  Cheesy

He should develop it and make it available to the public, if we have to pay later lets have a feel of what we should expect. I think at the developing stage, you might also need some critical look from experienced gamers so they could provide some advice, I found a lot of games on cryprocurrency boring, I wish you provide an interesting one. Educative games are first meant for the adult before recommendation to kids

I haven't seen any interesting cryptocurrency games yet. They are monotonous. The only exception is casinos where you can pay with crypt, but this is only a casino.

I don't think games are a good tool for educating adults about new concepts, they are time-consuming and distracting. You could use them to teach kids, but why would you want to teach kids about Bitcoin in the first place, it's not like they will be using it till they grow up.

Adults play games to relax and have fun, and educational games generally have poor gameplay, so I can't imagine such game being popular.

I don't agree with you. Games are one of the most powerful ways to actually conceptualize new things. I believe there were few studies made that proven that learning gamification is better than just scanning through some text or listen to lectures.

Also why do we need to stop playing games if we're adults?

It's just a personal opinion of the user. Not really well thought out and they did not say adult should stop playing games they said that adults play games for relaxation and fun.
Scanning through text and listening to lectures is boring and I learn very little. It needs to be gamified just like you say. With milestones and rewards. You only old when you stop playing games. Smiley

That is very interesting and so good to hear that an educational game that embodies the learning about Bitcoin is being developed. That will really be a great game to play with specially for those who wanted to know more about Bitcoin because it sound like a simulated conversation, it will looks like Sims City because of the conversation. It is so nice that you put a twist of games in between the conversation so that players won't be bored of plain information since it is intended to educate people. Looking forward once that game of yours have been fully developed because it will be a great way to promote Bitcoin.

this will be a challenge for you in building an educational game about bitcoin.
Of course basic knowledge about bitcoin will be included in the first chapter of this game.
Each answer will provide a different storyline.

With your ability to use Unity2D will greatly support the visual appearance of the game for the better. If you build this game well and diligently I think a lot of support will come to fund the game that you are developing. then what determines the success of your game is the quality of the game and how to market the game to the audience of the game.

It is a great idea, a game that can share ideas and knowledge through Bitcoin. But this is not mean that they will get educate because Bitcoin need more time to educate your self all over the function and how the system works. But at least this maybe help people to understand what is Bitcoin and maybe the stepping stone towards the Bitcoin adoption. Thank you for sharing this.

Nice work mate, I can't wait to try it out though but I was hoping that maybe you can add something that allows the conversation around how best we can use bitcoin as a payment method looking at all the scalability issues and the speed of the network. Maybe a little light around that area will also be a good idea!

Games are an honest tool to teach adults up about new ideas, they are tiring and diverting. You’ll use them to show kids, yet for whatever reason you want kids to identify bitcoin, they won’t like to use it until they get older.

The grown ups can undo and enjoy a wonderful time, and the continuing interaction of educational games for the main part is pretty bad, so I can't think of enrolling this national game.

That is really a great initiative taken by the game community. It becomes easily for people to learn about something through gaming. Most of the people around the world still do not know much about bitcoin,so this is the best source to make those people educated about bitcoin. Those days are not far when everything will be dealt with bitcoin and surely bitcoin will take over the world soon. So,it is really a great initiative to make such things to educate people about bitcoin.

It is difficult to attract people to play games, especially if it is educational games. I like computer games and I am also a crypto enthusiast, even if I am a newbie there is no way I am playing that game. This is a good way to promote mass adaptation and crypto knowledge, however, I believe it won't be that effective.
But the use of educational games is appropriate enough to convey information simply and pleasantly, with the support of attractive graphics and animations, rather than just reading a row of letters. There must be a small number of people who use this. If the OP can promote the mini-game well, I think this is effective enough to provide education to the newbie. All objects can become learning media, the OP has already determined its target players, so I'm sure what the OP can do can be useful.

Exactly, it’ll be fun and knowledgeable at the same time. If OP will be able to create a game that is customer friendly, which means easy to use and understand and use attractive graphics then I think players will still be interested in it especially that bitcoin is becoming popular. With the game type people will know about bitcoin in a simpler way.

Design the game similar to how Cashflow 101 game is played to make it interactive and fun and also they should be forced to think on how they view money.
To add:
1. How the government keeps increasing fiat currency (inflation) vs how bitcoin is fixed supply (deflationary). How savings in fiat or value of savings in fiat is being robbed in plain sight.
2. Why no one can stop a bitcoin transaction (censorship resistance)
3. Why bitcoin is "unhackable" - e.g. will take 33 decillion years to crack a btc wallet with value using an existing ultra-super-mega computer.
4. Why bitcoin is better than gold in terms of portability (imagine carrying $100,000,000 in gold and paying someone with it haha)

That is a good thing. If I am a game developer in the future, I will choose to create games that are related in cryptocurrency or a game that gives knowledge about cryptocurrency, well, that is good especially for the children or to adults. I think that they will become motivated to learn cryptocurrency if they see some animated characters and places on the background. Still, I think a game that teaches cryptocurrency has a disadvantage as well because for sure some of the players won't focus on learning but rather on the game, actually based on my experienced, it is so hard to learn something when you are playing, you will become distracted on reading, analyzing and understanding the message if you are playing.

Games are an effective medium rather than just reading texts with similar concepts. The information to be conveyed is packaged in an interesting form, depending on the desired target, and if this is introduced early on in teens I think it can have a positive effect on their mindset on the development of the financial system of technology. This is very interesting and unique niche.
All the basic things needed to understand the cryptocurrency ecosystem are also included in the OP list.

Sounds like a good idea. Lots of people may not be interested if it too difficult or technical.
Most people would probably grasp things easily if you use real Bitcoin with "many transparent & fancy piggy banks in a large containers". Everyone has the copy of the container but nobody owns it. It's decentralized, transparent, permissionless, trustless, immutable, anonymous etc.       After playing the game, you could ask them if they prefer having the container in the care of a central authority or in their care. If they choose the latter you inform them that is what Bitcoin is about.
I bet most will prefer holding and monitoring the piggy bank container together as a community

Well, I think that is a nice idea that use games as medium to introduce and influence other to be interested and knows about cryptocurrency, actually, I'm not good at suggesting at complex things but what you have right now is enough maybe while developing it you will think of others things to add, but in all, it might work.

I never seen any game like this. A combination of games plus useful information about bitcoin. You have a good purpose creating this kind of unique game. If this will help people who do not enough knowedge  in bitcoin, then it is such a great idea and I do think many will suppport this  Awareness is always the key for adoption and this game of yours is simply amazing to do that kind of tasks that engage bitcoin informations.

There are a lot of games like this.

Giving information, used in the schools so children will be familiarized with the spelling of words and even familiarizing the keys on the keyboards, there are also games about Bitcoin. The problem here is that how will it gain players, if this game will be developed, someone needs to advertise this game so a lot of people would also play it.

I like the idea, but building a game from scratch isn't easy at all.
If the game isn't entertaining enough, nobody would bother playing (even if it's really informative).
A game with asking and answering questions seems really boring.Kids and teenagers simply won't be interested into such game. Do you have any concepts about the game design?
Will you outsource this to a game developer?Do you have a budget? How do you plan to fund this project?

I am self funding this for now. I am a developer, and have picked up Unity2D just for this project.
you are really dedicated in this project to spend your own money for the success to help bitcoin and crypto currency to be known in future for the benefits of all.
I am commissioning an artist to provide artwork. I do think the getting the artwork right will be key.
i think you can share this in Service section and ask for some help since we have many good dev and artist as well that can give help for free if they find you as legit and progressing ?

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=52.0

here post your preferred work to ask, there is nothing to lose if you try right?

Self funding for now. I am hoping to get the first few missions out and then look for some donations to continue to the advanced levels.

well let us know in future, maybe even a small amount can help(but never Beg for this forum because that is not allowed by the rules)

OK those are cool topics, but as some already feedback, still possibly quite technical. I think it's got to be in the forms of questions people are most likely to ask about using Bitcoin (as opposed to questions people would ask about speculating on or investing on Bitcoin).

In my own starting experience, it's like:
1. How do I send someone Bitcoin without making a mistake?

But what could be more fun is a section on convincing people why they should switch to Bitcoin, with a game that teaches them the key differences. Ie. What actually happens when I send someone 1 dollar to their bank account, and when I sent someone 100 satoshi to their own Bitcoin wallet?

Answer could revolve around actually you sending money to bank and bank updating an account balance of the receiver... money stays at the bank.

And Bitcoin, you're transferring sole ownership to another user.

It's a pretty good idea but based on my experience if you're going to create your own game will need a fund to develop that game also you will make your own cryptocurrency in order to give a reward to the one that answer correctly. The reward will increase level by level and some kind of trophy in the end or if you will reward Satoshi it will be good. An education game that all about cryptocurrency ? It will give more idea and make easy to understand to everybody who want to know it. It's easier for them to educate if they're enjoying it.

Great idea! A mini-game is ideal for an objective between 18 years and over. Because there are certain warnings about the use of Bitcoin that are clearly understandable.
It can be fun if users have challenges and missions where they can earn rewards and points. Also, with the points earned they can become satoshi, it would be an advantage.
It would be hard to associate game to bitcoin or cryptocurrency specially when you are playing an online game and the reward is a cryptocurrency which is satoshi or any coin i think the developer of the game will be having a hard time f that would be the concept of the game playing the game winning the game and earn free satoshi a after the game maybe that would be a hard part for the developer.
I think the main concept will be just the game will be having a connection to cryptocurrency and bitcoin and which they will how to promote or introduce bitcoin is.
For me, yes, it is hard to make a game that you can connect bitcoin and the purpose is to educate the gamer but as of now, maybe there are some developers are now thinking that to happen and they will produced some blockchain-based game that will promote bitcoin to the player. Because as of now there are games that only use bitcoin for some top-ups when you are buying some equipment in a particular game and need bitcoin to buy it. It is not impossible to happen but as of now since there is still not having any kind of game like that, we should continue to promote bitcoin the way we do, promoting in social media platforms, on your friends, so that we can gain a lot more investors to support particular projects that are coming.

Games is a good way to educate other people. They are having fun while learning how bitcoin really works. They would fully understand what bitcoin can do if they are enjoying studying about it. Plain text information is much more boring than playing a game while learning so, I do not think that this one is a bad idea at all.
Well, in the past, I've seen some games like a happy farm, harvesting and trading products, we can convert the profits we earn into bitcoin but these games quickly went bankrupt and disappeared when the value of bitcoin skyrocketed and when the bitcoin craze has been flooding in recent years, the idea of a game to educate people about bitcoin is no longer an interesting idea. In order to understand bitcoin, perhaps people should directly visit the websites online, they provide them fully and with the level of knowledge of an average person, we only need a short time to understand all about bitcoin
Indeed, there are people who really play every game like it was a piece of cake for them but when the other people playing it, it is really hard. Different people have different knowledge.

I think the main concept will be just the game will be having a connection to cryptocurrency and bitcoin and which they will how to promote or introduce bitcoin is.

i love gaming and this is one of my past time,i even spend regular time so why not with this one?consider me as one that will try this.

I am self funding this for now. I am a developer, and have picked up Unity2D just for this project.

I am commissioning an artist to provide artwork. I do think the getting the artwork right will be key.
nice initiative mate ,just continue your doings because seems like you are heading for the goodness of crypto specially Bitcoin.
Self funding for now. I am hoping to get the first few missions out and then look for some donations to continue to the advanced levels.

of course there might be help coming from us if we find your project worth donating.

I don't think games are a good tool for educating adults about new concepts, they are time-consuming and distracting. You could use them to teach kids, but why would you want to teach kids about Bitcoin in the first place, it's not like they will be using it till they grow up.

Adults play games to relax and have fun, and educational games generally have poor gameplay, so I can't imagine such game being popular.

Too negative. Why do we play games? To relax and have fun, right? It is as what you have said. That's why we are putting something on games, not only for fun, but also for education. Games are very effective when we want people to experience and understand something. Because it requires simulation, cooperation of the player, and in that way, not only they have engaged themselves in the game, they also learned something from bitcoin.

If we will not do something to spread bitcoin, then there will be no way it will be used by many people.

The idea of creating something to promote the use of bitcoin is a good one. Games have been a part of the life of people and has earned its reputation economically, emotionally, and psychologically. If we are to target these three important points that involve people, especially those who aren't familiar of bitcoin, then it could actually reveal good results.

However, it should also be noted that before putting the game into action, there are lots of factors to be considered first such as: the game's success, promotion, graphics, good game concept, testing, sharing of achievements, negative reviews, retaining user's attention, and clones. Some factors can be solved and taken into account easily, but, for instance, retaining user's attention could be a little bit hard.

We live in a world where technology and the appearance of world-class games is inevitable. I also think that the target audience must be considered because if you are to develop a game that only involves jobless men or someone who isn't happy with what he is earning, then I think you will need more of them. This will surely take a long, long time.

I don't agree with you. Games are one of the most powerful ways to actually conceptualize new things. I believe there were few studies made that proven that learning gamification is better than just scanning through some text or listen to lectures.

Also why do we need to stop playing games if we're adults?

i agree, we should teach our kids on BTC basics, if everything goes as expected, it will be the currency and investment tool which they will use as adults, it is good to teach them while they are little for the future...

To be honest, I liked the concept of this educational game, it is really important to teach people especially the children through some easy ways like, games..ect. In addition to that, I did notice lately that Bitcoin's community needs to know more about this domain specifically  the newbies.
Plus, maybe you will get some negative thoughts or opinions from the other members and that's a normally fact, we are all different, you need to accept all the opinions even the worst ones and then try to improve your self and idea .
Good luck and keep going forward.

That is very good, I would have recommended that you add a means for them to be earning bitcoins as a reward for completing every stage, but unfortunately that would be similar to what you earn from faucets so it won’t really make any sense.

I have seen quite a few Bitcoin games and the amount they pay doesn’t make any sense to me, it’s just like they faucets rebuilt faucets as games and those little cents are not worth the stress. You can still add it though just to say thanks to them for learning about cryptocurrency using your platform.

Games is a considerable move but honestly speaking there are other alternative and much better options to this one.

100% agree with you.  Implementing the Bitcoin tutorial in the game without the game getting boring is a challenging task for developers but if they are very successful in this it will deliver a greater impact than those alternatives that suppose to be a better option in advertising Bitcoin.

This was a great way to generate mass adoption but we camnot say how many people will use this app. Maybe if this was successfully made it can generate adoption but I think it is not enough to make the bitcoin ecosystem become bullish. What we need is mass adoption which we can get if we get total support of people worldwide to apply to their everyday life.

I must say that inclining gaming experience to the pursuit of Bitcoin is an innovative idea. Through integrating Bitcoin to what people love doing, gaming, their awareness of it could increased. However, it could possibly raise awareness and pique one's interest but it would be a challenge to give them the overview of the wholeness of the concept of Bitcoin. But nonetheless, this idea is creative and if developed accordingly, it would be a lot level of educating and spreading the word about Bitcoin.
You are right. The game is fun and an alternative to help get tired and tired. If the game can be used as a way to earn money through cryptocurrency it will definitely be more interesting. Doing fun and making a profit too, it's double fun.
I also agree that the game is a good medium for introducing bitcoin, hopefully, more and more people are aware that bitcoin can be used as an alternative to adding revenue.

This is a good idea! But why would an ordinary person want to install this app? Especially if this person believes that fiat money is better than cryptocurrency.

I agree with you, installing apps is a big friction point.

That is why I am undecided if I should deliver it as a mobile app or a in browser experience. I am using unity2d and for now working hard to support both mobile and mouse/keyboard inputs.

Adults play games to relax and have fun, and educational games generally have poor gameplay, so I can't imagine such game being popular.

I think this depends on how the game was developed.  Educating someone using a game does not necessarily mean a straight-up tutorial.   The game developer can incorporate important facts into the storyline of the game.

For example, in an RPG game, a developer can make a quest about the importance of protecting passwords and private keys in cryptocurrency, or a Visual Novel with a good storyline will do.  It all depends on how creative the game developer will be and how he can make learning crypto interesting while playing his game.

It all matters on how its been delivered because if it cant able to hook up adult players attention then this game will mostly fail.
So it will really vary on overall concept.I actually have same inputs on how this thing should really be done and telling to be effective
once its launched.

Games is a considerable move but honestly speaking there are other alternative and much better options to this one.

I think it is important first to atleast introduce the basic of crypto like what was its difference to fiat or what does blockchain mean because it was the first thing that they will encounter as they enter the crypto space. Also, they should be also aware with the risk that they can get as they engage with crypto investment.

I disagree, I think it us a good idea to create a game that educates people about cryptocurrency because games can be fun and while having fun you can also learn something. For those who have not known bitcoin may find it boring to read and study bitcoin but if it's a game then it will be fun.
A game that can be challenging yet entertaining and full of knowledge is a great idea to enlighten people with regards to bitcoin. It depends on what kind of game, there's a difference between a game for kids and adults. They will surely find it boring if it doesn't suit their preferences but it will be great for people who are into games. People have various of ways to learn things, it is usually reading books and articles. A game as a tool for learning is kind of unique and it seems possible to work because people these days are into online games for the reason that it is enjoyable and it enhance your skills development.

A game that would teach others about BTC is a good idea but the difficulty would be sharing it with the people that need it most.

People on Herr already know about BTC at some extend so that hardest part of the project is reaching the right audience and getting them to play the game?

How do you suggest or how do you plan on doing this?

Marketing is always a challenge.

My plan is to spread the word amongst people who know about bitcoin and want to help their friends and family understand bitcoin a little bit.

That is why feedback and game testing from people who know about a bitcoin, for example the people here, is important part of my development plans.

As a fallback, I plan to approach bitcoin exchanges and sell them the idea of making the game available to their users or use the game as a tool for acquiring new users.

The fallback plan is really a plan to use in case everything else fails. I would love to see the community finding the tool/app/game I am developing to be a useful thing.

It might really work. I can see you are really into it.
You could post some links here next time or maybe an announcement if the game is in beta test.
Some of us could try it and could also help see any errors if there will be.
Like bugs, or something which had been forgotten to be fixed.

I really hope next time we will be seeing your project here first.  Grin Good luck!

I would go with anonymity and privacy. As you said, the goal consumer of this game is just normal people that do not know what bitcoin or crypto currencies are and they prefer to keep their personal information to themselves. I think only a group of people will be interested in a story-driven game that you are planning if you ask me you should aim for something addicting, simple but addicting games. Though that would be hard to pair with anonymity and privacy, I don't know. Here's the thing, I played a game in the past where you buy something and while you leave the game the profit is going up and up. I don't remember that game but that is amazing since while you have a lot of money or profit, you could upgrade your house, your PC, your room, etc.

In that game, you could start the player as one wanting to mine bitcoin and maybe 100 to 200 sats are enough profit of it per hour. Then there is this upgrades in his PC where it would speed up his earnings or profit. He could upgrade his PC, his house, he can even buy a miner to more develop his earnings. He could switch to solar so he could reduce his payment in electrical bills. You could add a feature where a hacker can hack his computer, if you will be doing it online, you could match up to other players hacking their PC in that game with a simple mini-game. This is just an idea of mine, hope it gives you something helpful.

Some really nice feedback. Thanks. To be honest, I started last year to think about a bitcoin game that looked like what you are saying. However, I changed my mind over the year. I'll try to explain why.

The persistent online games you describe do make the game studios a LOT of money. When I set out to design such a game, I found it got very complicated for a game designer and even for players. I wanted something that my friends who are not into fantasy games to be happy to engage with what I am building.

The second game you describe, kind of exists, but I found it not informative at all. The description of them game calls it an "idle clicker".

There's another one that helps you build a mining operation. However, I think it focusses on one aspect of bitcoin.

In contrast, I really want to build a tool that solves the problem I have. The problem to let my friends understand at a high level, what is bitcoin and why bitcoin is such a useful thing to have.

Now I remembered, thank you for that. In idle clicker though you need to tap the screen so it will give you profit. I don't know the other game but sorry to give you a unoriginal idea. If that is the case though, then you need a high story based game. How about something like an interactive story game where the player will be the one who will choose what happens to the story and the ending will also be based on that. I think you really need to stick in a story based games, so I think an Interactive game can be good too. I know some ero-games as an example like Summertime Saga and Love Esquire, sorry for that examples, that is the only games I could think of right now.

I agree that you should really go with the story driven game but the problem is how would you stick people into it.

What are you actually planning? This is a hard project if you ask me since not all of the people would be interested in it especially in our country where the usual games are Mobile Legends and other online games. They stick into that kind of games and does not find other games that would entertain them. I suggest though a RPG game but that would be really hard to develop, you would be always busy with balancing stuffs and how would the story engage the use and information about Bitcoin.

Educational game? Give up it up. The idea of making it a game is interesting, but using the format you just stated wastes the idea, like, completely. See here, games are interesting because they don't have to think much outside of anything related to the game. Look at how puzzles are solved in Tomb raider games, at detective games. Every piece of information needed is IN the game, meaning they don't have to reference it to others. If you want to use an educational game where players answer it base on answers that they need to find themselves, its kinda dead.

There's also the issue of format. Games are interesting because they give you novel ideas on how to move, analyze, and see the story of the game. It'd be a lot better if you actually use BTC as a form of medium to resolve problems, where the player is guided/instructed on HOW to use those BTC. Never use BTC as a core idea, use it as a medium to finish the game.
There are games existing and played by many that you can learn knowledge that a certain person needs. For example, Scratch, A basic game that can make your programming foundation wider, This game is marketized for the kids because of its design but as an adult, it is helpful especially if you have zero ideas about programming. Op might make a game like this that makes a user easily understand how bitcoin works. We can't judge the project until we see how it works. Can we just support OP with his project especially we can use it to teach others and we might also gain knowledge from it.

The target player is not an engineer or an economist, but a person on the street that still believes fiat is good and that we are fine with money controlled by the state.
When you decide to create a game, so the target surely the game lovers and a few people that may be interested in it. This is not a bad idea but I assume it won't involve significant numbers of people. Moreover, not all gamers always try a new game, some of them just play with their favorite games and stuck on them. So, how to handle this fact?

I think the trick will be to not target game lovers. Instead, I'll target some of those millions of people that have a coinbase account. They have put their money into some cryptocurrency. In theory, they will be interested in learning more about bitcoin.

Going through the discussion here, I am thinking maybe I shouldn't even call this a game at all anymore, but an educational app with elements borrowed from game design and gamification.

For example:

1. Complete the first task where you discover the emission schedule of bitcoin.
2. Get a screen that says, "Well done you are now at Level 1".
3. The user/player goes to the next screen where the conversation is about, "How do I actually use bitcoin? Do I need a special credit card?"
4. At the screen in 3., there is a text telling the player their current level. Something like:

https://www.cheatcc.com/imagesds/radianthistoria_0b.jpg

The levelling screen in 2. and the current level in 4 are the "game" parts here.

This was true, it is hard to compete with those competitive games out there especially they set a certain standard in that field. Maybe this was a good idea but I dont think it will be so popular, maybe it is possible if you atleast integrate some features you can see with those leading games.

Your purpose is for someone who like to play game only, ?right? Maybe it is good, because as far as I know there is many gaming platform who use their digital money to buy something like guns and etc. The gamers will aware easily of it buy they just like it when they play the game never take any decision to take it in another place. But, it will be good, I support you to make this plan and maybe if you don't mind I will try your game platform first. I don't have a good imagination I need to assess it directly.

What about creating a pool that generates bitcoin and who ever wins to the game could have the chance to earn bitcoin even little amounts? Though I consider the concepts already that is beneficial, this could be more effective when more people will play through the excitement of earning a bit of bitcoin.

IMO, having a game that educates people about bitcoin is quite better if we target audiences that is a millennial. Trying to push out someone that is quite old will just a waste because they mostly want to pursue reading articles instead of playing.

I also want the concept of a game for the people to be educated in crypto, as we can agree most of us plays a game with different types. Games are also fun, and it is can also easily influence kids nowadays. Just see how much game is watched and play by younger kids and the effects of it are effective. My nieces and nephews plays games with color matching and puzzles and it helped them a lot. I was also planning an Online MMORPG which crypto is somehow inserted. I am not a developer but I am a 3d artist and can help build a good game with good graphics.

This might work.

It will be a lot of effort though but it might be worth the work if we could spread the good news.
Some people just cannot understand it without a background in new technology.
Using a game might be a good way for them to understand it in a shallower side of view.

Another thing that might work out is being seen by kids. The gaming industry is still going upwards even until now and  I think they might bump into this in the future. Thank you in advance.
I also think it will be a great idea spreading your knowledge about bitcoin and other cryptocurrency to avoid confusion and negative opinions about bitcoin. Developing a game really need a huge effort and more understanding about bitcoin, that is why i would to see the game that you are developing by the end of your work. Hoping for your success and good luck.
Games could really be possibly become the key on how to introduce and educate more people about bitcoin becausewe all know that games are very popular and many people are playing on it so that it may be really lucky on how we will introduce so many people about cryptocurrency and using bitcoin and what is the good and positive side or the negative side of this cryptocurrency i hope that on the near future there would be a game developer that will develop a game that educate people about cryptocurrency.

That was a good idea too that making a game is an excellent influence on the people, but still, it depends on the target audience. Sometimes when we are creating a game we should need to have a good quality of the game that educate other people or the user and next is to have beta testing to your target users so you can get a lot of information and data what do you need to do to manage your game. Also, it is better if we are aiming to the people who want to learn about the world of cryptocurrency or the bitcoin because some of the users don't mind if that is crypto because they will think it is just a standard coin or gold that need to be wasting in the game.  But we don't know that your game is the next future generation that promotes the crypto and you will get a lot of sponsors. If you want to have good feedback too, it is better if you consult a game developer also.

The game is designed as a series of conversations between two people, one asks questions and the other responds. The responses almost always include a mini game where the player solves a simple task to understand the concept.
~

I'm wondering how that will work without making the game itself pretty boring. By "conversations between two people" are you talking about a design similar to Seen?

To promote the game to a higher extent and make it more likely to become popular, I'd add a game inside your app with weekly winners. The game would only become unlocked if you pass 1/2 of the courses, but only practice mode. If you want to win the prizes, you have to finish all the courses beforehand.

Say there's a trading game in there and you have to guess if the price of BTC is going to fall or rise within the next 30 minutes. If you get it right, you get a point. The more you get right, the more points you earn. If you miss a prediction, 2 points are deducted OR your score resets. The winner at the end of the week (with the highest points) would be rewarded a little prize ($10?).

I know there's a quite large number of people willing to spend their time on apps to earn even a few cents. If you're going to make a little competition, more will be interested to join.

Kids vs adults shouldn't be a concern. Kids learning about BTC and financial freedom is a great idea. They should grow up with decentralization in mind imo. Fuck the state-controlled worthless paper money. Adults who are interested to learn more about BTC (or, if the idea above turns into reality, even those interested in trading only) will download your app if the design is user-friendly and fun enough.

Best of luck with the development, make sure you leave some updates here every now and then!

I was thinking more about something like this:

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rsz_gfs_107557_2_30_6046.jpg

Some brilliant suggestions here. The weekly rounds is something I have been thinking about too. I was thinking of a mining competition, but really left this all for phase 2 or 3. I just want to focus on a tool that I can give to a friend and they come back saying thanks, now they get a bit more about bitcoin than they did before trying the game.

Hi all,

Thanks for this excellent feedback. This is exactly what I was looking for. I'll address the concerns raised until now.

1. Adults vs kids.

The target of the game remains people who are curious about bitcoin, but don't have time or energies to read books. The impact of Bitcoin and how it can be used is pretty tough to grasp. By breaking down concepts and letting people engage with a single concept at a time will help them understand more.

I personally read the white paper and was sold. However, I found out more and more as I kept reading and engaging with the community. My hope is to convince some of my friends who aren't convinced about the importance of bitcoin. They are very smart people, but lead a busy life and don't have 2-8 hours to read a book etc.

My aim is break the game into small nuggets, so each session is a couple of minutes and the player walks away with that single concept. Slowly over 15-20 sessions, with 15-20 mini-games, the player would have understood a lot of small concepts and hopefully sees the bigger picture.

2. Distribution

My goal is to make the game useful and interesting enough experience so that people here can point their friends to it. You know those smart friends of ours who are being too lazy to read the books/articles/videos we keep sending them.

I am building this in Unity2D and am aware of apple's reluctance to accept bitcoin related apps. So I am being careful and developing both for webGL and mobile. I might just have to distribute it via web.

3. Play testing

I will definitely need a lot of help play testing and gathering feedback. So everyone here who would like to help me with testing will definitely get free access to the game.

To be honest, I would love to give the game away for free so that there is no friction for people anywhere in the world to play it and get started on understanding bitcoin. However, this depends on sponsorships I can get once the game is ready.

3. I like the suggestions to include other things like how mining makes money for miners. The mini-game for miner profits is probably not too hard to build too. Thanks @pawanjain for the suggestion.

4. Thanks @pakhitheboss for the suggestion about a questionnaire. Reminds me of quizzes on coursera. That could actually work. Super suggestion. Let me see if can fit that in without breaking the continuity.

Once again, thanks everyone for all the encouragement and also for a healthy dose of skepticism.

I hope to start sharing some screenshots soon. Just need to get the artist to deliver some art work!

I guess OP just trying to developing a gaming platform which can tell about bitcoin those people whom still don't know about it or have some interest to learn about it. It's true that people can learn easily if they can enjoy the lesson and i guess choosing a gaming platform is quite good idea for that. Now the question is how much capability got your platform for that..? For kid i think it's okey but how about mature people..? I think for them it's quite old idea. don't you think the same..?

This might be a fair point, actually. At first, I thought it was a great idea, but if the game's heavily educational rather than a cool game on its own which somewhat touches on the topic of Bitcoin, it's not likely that it would become popular. When people want to learn something, they read an article or watch a video, but probably don't play a game. However, since Bitcoin is largely unknown to any sort of audience, the game could adjust to the academic curriculum and pushed as something that could be used in Economics classes in high school. The usage of games to make students interested is getting more and more popular (I, for instance, use Kahoot quite often as a teacher, and teenagers enjoy it), so if this game's education, it can fit right in. In that case, however, it should probably be more about different kinds of money, Bitcoin should not be a single topic. And it should be possible to play it for, like, 5-10 minutes in a classroom.

But the problem will be , why will people download it ?
Maybe you can provide some rewards with this game ?
This would make it sell way way fast in the market.
There are already many games and people who do not know anything about Bitcoins am worried how will they search for it? Grown ups don't have time for games and such the only circle you can put on is on the teenagers , who have a lot of free time.
Best of luck with the project.
A proper advertising can do so people will reach this kind of game that teaches most about bitcoin. The OP might have given some reward to motivate others to play this game in the future when the deployment happen, OP will surely have a plan about the spread of this game.

This kind of game is suited for the people who want to learn from bitcoin but entertained as well. I might share out this game (after OP finished deploying the game into public) to the people who are asking me how will they able to use bitcoin.

I agree that games are not the best education method for adults because majority of them ( who are not gamers) would not take them seriously or would not be interested for them at all so they will not have desired effect.
Educational games are not bad idea but for children and young people not adults.

You can include ways on how to earn from bitcoin i.e., mining, trading, staking etc... as some of the methods on how users can earn from crypto.
You can also take mining separately and make it as a game where users are in a simulation, mining transactions and earning money.

I don't agree with you. Games are one of the most powerful ways to actually conceptualize new things. I believe there were few studies made that proven that learning gamification is better than just scanning through some text or listen to lectures.

Also why do we need to stop playing games if we're adults?

it will greatly depend on how it is implemented and the little description that OP included seems like the target is more of younger generation rather than adults.
and hatshepsut93  is correct, adults don't play game to learn stuff. they play for entertainment. for example you'd play Call of Duty to have fun and won't learn anything!

A very nice and interesting initiative I must say. Everyone plays online games but how many of them will seriously understand the concept of how many of them will implement Bit pin in their daily lives is something you need to keep a track of in your game. I think you give your players a small questionnaire after the end of each module to determine the chances of them using Bitcoin.

This is a great idea. In a playful and informal way, knowledge is transferred much easier.
Quite a good list to start with. Although, the last point can be argued. I’m not sure about regulation, but you can definitely manipulate it, having huge resources for that.
Be that as it may, I wish you success in your endeavor.

Being a game developer that can promote the whole cryptocurrency is a nice way to easily spread the knowledge to other people. I think one of the topics you should include in developing your mini games is basic like saying the importance of bitcoin for people and/or how bitcoin works but not just bitcoins include also other coins.

I think that such games will help people to know more about Bitcoin and blockchain technology. It is good that appears games that educates people and explain how Blockchain technology works. The more people will understand how Bitcoin is working and how Bitcoin is useful the more people will use Bitcoin. It will increase the value of Bitcoin.
