The real crypto OGs or Bitcoin OGs talk about Bitcoin for free but the majority of videos online today are doing it for money, so no I don't take crypto videos very seriously, everyone has something they want and 99% of this desire is money so people will do anything to get to their destination.

Education is all you need to understand Bitcoin and crypto, learn yourself and you will understand everything, and I will also like to correct OP that many older people don't know about Bitcoin, in my family, no older person understands what Bitcoin is, they don't know such thing exists.

Ask them about Bitcoin or tell them about money that's digital they will argue with you that it's impossible.

-snip-there's no one in this century who hasn't heard about Bitcoin and who doesn't know the future it holds for us and I was of the opinion that that can't be true.-snip-

It's not true. Not everyone has heard about bitcoin. I bet there are "older" generations that don't even know bitcoin exists or something like that.

It’s the paradox of value at play. You can’t expect these Nigerians to choose bitcoin too since they most likely don’t know about bitcoin in the first place, or the value that it possesses. It could also be that they are in dire need of money and would rather choose the quick cash over compounding value since they need it right now and not for the next bull run. See there’s so many things at play here and we fling ignorance at them not knowing what stuff they are personally going through that pushed them to choose that over bitcoin. Perhaps a little openness and perspective could help you with that? It’s funny cause we know how valuable bitcoin is but if the situations were changed, and you’re someone who doesn’t know bout bitcoin asked on-the-spot if you would choose your local currency over bitcoin, what would you do?
The Nigerians don't know about the bitcoin? I thought they knew a lot about bitcoin and most of the Nigerians trades bitcoin a lot. As far as I know, their central bank had issues with Bitcoin and all banks were ordered to suspend accounts that were involved in bitcoin trading. Just because they are from a third word country doesn't mean that they don't know what bitcoin is. Perhaps they know more than most of us.

Common man , you knew facebook as you are not that young anymore , there are so much stupidity going in that platform in which majority is misleading and we must admit that to not become one of the victim of fake news.
also there are several post like this in the past as what you said there are no one in this century that does not know bitcoin.
but that is a general term and is not standing to all people in the world ,
don't be exaggerated about posts that you are reading
we must also elaborate and understand some general meaning.
but for me? it is indeed that the world already knew bitcoin either it is good or bad.

It's just that those people really haven't heard of Bitcoin. The video is really coming from Nigeria, and I just thought that most of them heard it, but again, not all because others haven't stumbled on Bitcoin because they are just into the internet and social media but still haven't found it online. For sure, in the next ATH, Bitcoin will really get trending again in Social media, and probably that is where they will discover it.

To be honest, I find their English hard to understand and I wouldn't really take seriously videos like this one because I think most of the time they just pay some money to say this or that in video. It's also curious that most of them time when people are asked with this question, no one asks back what is Bitcoin or what's the price of bitcoin or how can they exchange it, that's why I don't believe in the authenticity of these videos.
You don't take them seriously because they're comedians lmao, maybe they're half-meant but that's beside the point. The problems you pointed out are easily answered by the fact that if they were to do those things, the comedy won't be prioritized and the delivery won't be funny because they've focused too much in technicalities. To be honest, you need to have your funny bone checked because you've been looking at the video at the wrong angle.

Regarding the video, I think it's funny and it does support OP's opinion that the ignorance in bitcoin is still there but in my opinion, ignorance won't be quashed anytime soon, there's billions of people out there and millions that don't have time to use the Internet so it's understandable that some people won't know about bitcoin even if it's a decade since it's Genesis.

There may still be people who have never heard of Bitcoin until now, especially if that person is too busy with what he is doing not to read any news. It's normal because people nowadays still think about themselves first and then think about other things.

There may also be people who have heard of Bitcoin but don't have it yet and don't care that there is it now. And those people will not know the future of Bitcoin because they are not trying to get to know it.

But those of us who have known Bitcoin for many years still want to own more Bitcoin. Some even use reserve funds to buy Bitcoin because they believe the price of Bitcoin will definitely increase very high. So it's better to let them think like that because owning Bitcoin or not is each person's decision.

A lot of people exaggerate Bitcoin, its potentials and relevance. Whenever I read exaggerated remarks on Bitcoin especially coming from somebody popular, I can only cringe in silence. There are even those who argue that Satoshi should be given a Nobel prize. There are those who claim that Bitcoin is one of the greatest inventions in human history, or the second greatest in the 21st century, next to the internet. I don't know, but whenever I go out into the real world, Bitcoin is more alien than aliens.

Without any form of advertising, bitcoin have reached all around the world. In the last few years different exchanges and other service providers have advertised bitcoin for their profit. Through this good number of people have come to know about bitcoin. Maybe if the advertising of bitcoin is made stronger, even more number of people will get awareness about bitcoin.

As in the above post, people have got different needs and the priority list varies which is also a reason why people doesn't give much attention towards bitcoin.

You can't blame other groups of people, especially those that are affected by poverty, to know of bitcoin since they have other things to put their focus on and sights on. They have to think of how to survive each day and combat hunger, so bitcoin probably is the least of their worries or their concerns. I don't find it funny that these people are clueless that bitcoin exists or how it works, as I know that there are also some things that they know that I probably don't have any idea about.

There many persons that have not heard about Bitcoin. For where I am living out of 100 person it might be only 40 person that might know about Bitcoin. One thing we have to know is that, there some persons that k ow about Bitcoin but they are not interested on the cryptocurrency because they have taking Bitcoin for scamming or bad something. While there are some people are there that are ignorant of the blockchain and if you tell them potential of the coin they will like to invest and use Bitcoin in their future.
The awareness of bitcoin on people which often use the internet for one reason or another should be very high, however this does not translate on adoption, people for the most part do not follow an ideology, they follow the benefits they can get with it, and they feel that the benefits they can get with bitcoin are too small or they are nonexistent, now I think they are wrong on their assumptions but that is most likely what they believe and it explains why adoption is on the low side.

I know Nigeria has one of the biggest bitcoin markets in Africa because many Nigerians especially the youths are embracing it. But bitcoin awareness is low among those between the ages of 50 and above. Many of them might have heard the word Bitcoin but I can attest that they know little or nothing about the currency. In the rural areas, many people have not even heard the word Bitcoin. As many members have said, most of the content on these social media space is staged to achieve an objective. But no doubt bitcoin awareness is increasing every day even among the elderly.

You're not wrong about Bitcoin being popular in developing countries, and I was surprised to discover that, out of all countries in the world, in 2020, it was Nigeria, that had the highest rate of the population actually using crypto:

Quote
Cryptocurrency is most popular in countries in Africa, Asia, and South America compared to Europe, North America, or Australia. In Nigeria, for instance, 32% of people (roughly 1 in 3) surveyed in 2020 said they use or own crypto.
source: https://explodingtopics.com/blog/blockchain-stats

In the same time (2020) some survey showed that the rate in US was only 6%, so quite a big difference. Of course, such surveys are not always very reliable, and a lot could change since 2020.

It's just a matter of knowledge and doesn't mean they don't know bitcoin, and if asked about bitcoin knowing only the name then obviously people will choose money over bitcoin. Because money is so easy and they are also used to it and can use it right away compared to bitcoin, they have to know the process, especially the value.
and if he asked those who know about bitcoins, they would definitely choose bitcoins, especially if they knew its value, they would be very happy.
and indeed there are still many people who don't know bitcoin well, especially those who live in rural areas and this is real because I also asked about bitcoin when I was in rural areas and some didn't know at all and some only knew or heard about it and I tried to explain it in a clearly in a nutshell maybe because I'm sure that over time they will figure it out too because if bitcoin is compared to money, money is superior because it has been around for a long time. long. But with time they will eventually figure it out and will also compare it.
Your point on Bitcoin' steep learning curve is valid, yet it doesn't confer traditional currency superiority. Bitcoin, with its potential for economic autonomy and safety, overrides its seeming complexity.

Bitcoin' immunity to governmental mood swings is a crucial boon, notably in the current volatile geopolitical climate. Also, its peer-to-peer attribute safeguards it against hurdles familiar to traditional banks.

Though Bitcoin is presently a specialist' financial vehicle, it harbors great promise. It's upon us all to circulate its knowledge, debunk misconceptions, and accelerate its adoption. Old money may have its age, but it can't eclipse Bitcoin's transformative prowess. Tenacity and continual enlightenment will, in time, steer Bitcoin to mainstream currency.

Just like the gospel in the Christian doctrine, it has not been preached in many places and many people do not yet know about it even though the gospel of Christ has been existing for a long time. The same goes for cryptocurrency and bitcoins, It will be naive for you to assume that everyone around the world has heard about bitcoins just because you have.

If we all contribute in our way to sharing word about bitcoins, it will go a long way in reducing the ignorance people have about cryptocurrency and bitcoins.

(...) and content creators need not create a video like this, all they want are views to monetize their content, they do not reflect the knowledge of the people in one's country about Bitcoin.

You can't blame them really. If certain content generates more views, and therefore more money, there will always be someone who would try to capitalise on that. So if we want content creators to stop producing garbage content - we need to stop consuming garbage content, and either start watching something valuable, or just switch off the tv (or other device). Simple as.

Many people have heard of bitcoin, but not everyone who has heard of it is aware of its value and potential. That is the genuine event described in the Facebook video.

Bitcoin is preferred over the sum of money mentioned by those who are aware of it and its value. While those who have heard of bitcoin but are unsure of its value go for fiat. That's exactly what happened in the video.

The irony of everything is that. People would continue to value what they know to be valuable above what they do not know. You can't just ask someone at random who you meet a question about something he doesn't completely understand and expect him to give you a good answer.
yes that's right someone will trust more with what they fully know and are familiar with that something. because it is better to use something that we know and we already understand the value and how to use it.
even though the video that OP shared was made for entertainment purposes, in my opinion, this video includes a random sample to find out how knowledgeable Bitcoin is, and this video also includes one of the indirect promotions or introductions to Bitcoin.
Even though Bitcoin is often a hot topic of discussion in various parts of the world, there are still many people who do not have clear knowledge about Bitcoin.

As always I believe in a small part of these videos, but doing some math how many are we on this planet?  And how many people are there in this forum who are supposed to know at least a little Bitcoin?  So it seems to me that only a small fraction has found interest and somehow tried to get information.  Even if the appearance seems to be able to find Bitcoin and information easily this is not the reality.

The English nis a Nigerian language and really video is interested. Someone is rejecting 2 Bitcoin and accepting 2 millions naira which is equivalent to $2647.25. Really ignorant is a disease. How can someone rejects 2 BTC for just $2647.25, I don't think there were sponsored to speak. From the appearance of the speakers the video looks genuine. The price of bitcoin was asked in the first interview which the lady said she didn't know the price of half bitcoin and yet she just decided to choice bitcoin over the fiat currency. Though I am not talking about the authenticity of the video but to some extent o see genuineness of the video and it was really fun.

I've seen a lot of videos like these that are filmed in the US or Europe, and the answers are pretty similar. Even though Bitcoin has gained a lot of popularity, not everyone still knows/cares about it, and even if they have heard about it, how does someone expect that they know how much is the exchange rate. Of course, people will choose what seems like a better answer even if it isn't but they just don't know.
I love Bitcoin and everything, but you can't really judge people or make fun of them for a topic they most likely don't care about. Even though this post is a comedic topic, we could be better off explaining and helping people adopt it easier and have the benefits that come with investing or just using Bitcoin.

If he just explains how much BTC is in naira, it will be chosen no matter if they don't know how to convert it to cash.  Grin

Although we hear a lot about it that Nigeria had been adopting BTC and there was even a time when the value of BTC in this country is way higher than the international market.  AFAIK the government of Nigeria even launched enaira which I assumed was to counter the adoption of BTC. You wouldn't really believe the adoption could be as massive as everyone will know BTC in the country. Not all will find BTC trustworthy especially when they have not even heard of it.

we can't blame them for preferring cash over 2 Bitcoin which is worth much more than that cash due to their limited knowledge about Bitcoin and its value at the moment. Moreover, the interview was conducted in a developing country whose citizens rarely hear information about Bitcoin. even in developed countries, there are still many people who are not familiar with Bitcoin and Altcoins, especially in countries like that.

so that's the importance of our role in being able to spread information about bitcoin wherever we can, I'm sure that the more active we are in providing information about bitcoin on social media or those closest to us, the adoption of Bitcoin will increase and it will definitely benefit all of us.

Yeah I kinda felt the same. It kinda looked like it was staged based on how the respondents responded to the speaker. Bitcoin is so wide for a topic that asking someone about it would guarantee you another question back, lol. Along with their local language, it's kinda hard to understand as well based on their tone.

Props for the effort though still. At least people still got an exposure to Bitcoin around Facebook.

Judging from some of the interviews, they don't fully understand crypto or Bitcoin and even don't know it at all.
When the host gave a choice of 2 Bitcoin or 2 million Naira, the man chose 2 million Naira as the top choice because he only saw the amount of money, not the price of Bitcoin when converted.
Assuming that the video was authentic, in opposite of what I assumed previously, it will look like that they do not have an idea at all when it comes to crypto. I would expect the same answer even by ETH, unlike when you ask in US Dollar equivalent though.

From the video, it's clear that people have varied levels of understanding of Bitcoin and its value. Also, honestly, to me there are too many short loud interjections in the video, it's a bit hard to focus. Aside from that, I don't have an understanding of naira's value, so I had to consult with the exchange value a lot.
I know people with varied degrees of familiarity with Bitcoin: people who have the general idea, people who actively engage in crypto trading, but also people who I'm sure have never heard of Bitcoin and have no idea how much it might cost or how it works.
After all, we're still in the early days.

Bitcoin is just considered like a worthless coin because it is digital and not real.
It's also because they don't fully know about Bitcoin.

Just like in my country who generally still don't understand what cryptocurrency is, how Bitcoin benefits, and the technology in it.

If this is said to be a funny video, of course, it is because of the choice that we think is wrong, and should choose Bitcoin which certainly provides more Fiat if converted.
But according to those who don't understand, Bitcoin doesn't mean anything.

I'll find this video educational if, at the end of the interview, he gives some mini book regarding bitcoins and some freebies to promote it; if it's that the case, then it will be worth sharing. But if it's just some survey proving how ignorant people are regarding bitcoins until now, then it's not that bad.
-snip-
It should be so, because they don't understand anything about Bitcoin, the end of the question should provide knowledge about Bitcoin so they can know how valuable Bitcoin is if they have it.
If without education then this is just a joke video that has no purpose other than seeing the stupidity of someone who doesn't know Bitcoin.

Don't get surprise about ignorance of bitcoin since not all can easily digest this especially if they didn't hear something about it. For sure they became skeptical because they have no idea on how they could use this or even if they can call it legit because no people introduce it yet with correct information.

But who knows those ignorance people will adopt it later on once there are more people near them use it and they find them successful so we better not to stress out on this and continue to use bitcoin then continue to earn with it.

I have watched the video and it's just a guy asking random people about Bitcoin, and that's totally useless because the people seem technically weak ones and they don't even know how to withdraw money if they accept Bitcoin. They are from Nigeria and they know their currency very well and that's why they are choosing their own fiat currency over Bitcoin. I must say that their English is totally un-understandable, and most of the words just flow over my head. However, the guy was asking about Blockchain and people were saying something really strange because I think they considered blocks + chains and came with conclusion as blockchain which makes sense.

After watching the video I found nothing special, but someone who was pranking with innocent people who weren't even aware about Bitcoin. It's understandable that the technology of Bitcoin is not as old or mature as of fiat based currencies and that's why most people don't know how to use it. In many small cities people are so weak in technology that they can't sell anything online because they don't know how to do bank-transfer or receive bank-transfer from the banks own application. Although, the banks are nowadays giving complete control to a user to transfer and receive the funds using their own applications but still users aren't that knowledgeable to take benefits from such services.

So, it's not fair to prank with those people who aren't aware about a technology, the better way is to teach them about the technology they are lacking, and promote awareness about it so that they may get interest to learn about it. Teach them what's Bitcoin and how the blockchain and Bitcoin works, that would be a great thing for humanity rather than creating prank videos that show people's lack of knowledge regarding Bitcoin.

Not everyone in any part of the world even cares when you try to raise awareness about bitcoin, because everyone's financial critical level can be different in terms of several aspects such as personality, environment, economic condition, etc.
Throughout my journey in this space, someone will really welcome the explanation of bitcoin when they really want a financial solution. At this point sometimes they are also more realistic, if you don't look rich then don't expect them to listen to you.

There is no doubt that Bitcoin awareness is spreading rapidly in many countries especially developing nations. The citizens of the nations are seeking ways of avoiding inflation and the decline in the value of local currencies. Many people have been introduced to Bitcoin to help them fight this inflation and devaluation of the currency of their nation which will make their savings worthless in the future.

Why is it considered funny that people don't know what Bitcoin is?
I think it's only natural that there are people who don't understand or know what bitcoin is.
In my country, there are still people who don't know what bitcoin is.
bitcoin is famous among 2000 and above, not below, so don't laugh at people who don't know what bitcoin is because it's normal in my opinion
sorry, I'm too sensitive about this video because in my opinion it's too mocking even though there's something he said that I don't understand, but from the look on his face, you can see a smile of ridicule whether it's real or a trick, but it's inappropriate

Just because we know about Bitcoin, it looks different for us. With common people whom hadn't known about bitcoin will find the reality in the video. This won't be surprising for them. Another thing, these days more videos were of staged ones. We can't expect the same to have genuinity.
(....)
I agree here because these days especially if you are on social media, some videos or any content there are already scripted, and some are only for the views.
About Bitcoin, I am very positive that we are still early and that's why there are still large portion in the world that they still don't know what Bitcoin is, so for me, that's why we are gifted, we will be the tools to spread the good things about Bitcoin.

It depends on it that there is a different perspective if the person does not know what's about bitcoin for sure they will chose the other option or the money but if you will make a comparison if the worth of the money to a bitcoin is way profitable better to determine the higher value at the end you can get a bitcoin at least with the amount.

Seems like they are just trying to troll which most of the people choose it's the bitcoin over the cash but for me, ill go with the higher value and have an option to buy Bitcoin.

I read somewhere in this forum, I can't particularly place the section but the person said, there's no one in this century who hasn't heard about Bitcoin and who doesn't know the future it holds for us and I was of the opinion that that can't be true.

To be frank, I watched the video but I couldn't quite follow the topic they were talking about, their English pronunciation was a bit slang. In short, I find it difficult to understand because the letters they say are words that can be eaten.

I also don't get the point of the content why they made that video about Bitcoin. What is the catch of that content? to show that many people are still naive to Bitcoin? Is that the purpose of their interview with the public there?

Lol viral videos ? another personal purpose and to gain attention as they care
nothing about bitcoin but themselves .
you have been in this market for how many years yet you still buy those kind of tricks?  Grin
The host has no sense, he asking people from street to choose between half bitcoin and 2 million, obviously people going to take 2 million. If I don't google the exchange rate of Nigerian currency I would have 2 million instead of half bitcoin. OP not everyone here is from your country and it is really hard to get the context of your video. Don't be lame like the host of the video you shared.
another stupid videos that seeks attention and what is more stupid? is that OP shared it here when we care nothing about what they stand .

the video is very funny and entertaining.

indeed, in this world, of course, there are still many people who don't know bitcoin, and in my area, not all of them know bitcoin, especially if in a country there is no thorough internet or in a country where the government in that country doesn't like bitcoin, so there will definitely be a lot of people who don't know what bitcoin is.
but I hope that in the future many people will know about bitcoin.

Atleast in this manner the videos are helping in the widespread. Even the technology people aren't aware about bitcoin and its existence, then how things could be in a better position with people who are working on different streams.

The guys is asking random people and it is obvious on the video that people who know about Bitcoin's worth will choose it over the lesser fiat money offered. Just like the first girl on the video, I think the girl knows about Bitcoin and knew that it is really expensive so she chooses Bitcoin since she knows the amount of Bitcoin offered is far greater than the fiat money offered.  I do not know which part is hilarious there since anyone asked that don't know BTC will obviously pick the fiat currency.

And you forgot if nowadays staged videos are everywhere, what are you see on a video isn't actually real.

There's a chance someone become dumb on purpose because they don't want to reveal themselves to know about Bitcoin or express themselves are Bitcoin holders.

I believe there's someone still never heard of word Bitcoin especially they live in a country where the government is strict e.g. North Korea.

Yeah, most viral videos are probably staged, but I don't think this is the case with this one. When you live in a densely populated city, it's not hard to find a few people willing to be interviewed and then cherry-pick the funniest (or most stupid) answers. And it's probably cheaper too, as with staged videos, the "actors" would likely want to have their cut.

As for Bitcoin's recognition, there are loads of people who are familiar with its name, but don't know pretty much anything else and are clueless about its value.

It’s funny cause we know how valuable bitcoin is but if the situations were changed, and you’re someone who doesn’t know bout bitcoin asked on-the-spot if you would choose your local currency over bitcoin, what would you do?

the person said, there's no one in this century who hasn't heard about Bitcoin and who doesn't know the future it holds for us and I was of the opinion that that can't be true.

Bitcoin has gone world wide and the widespread is without boarders, but still yet we cannot derive on the conclusion that no anyone has not been informed about bitcoin all over the world, there are still some people and places that are below the standard and have poor development and are yet to hear about this digital currency, there's still more time needed for bitcoin unified globalization through the nooks and crannies of the world.

Judging from my immediate family, I could tell my parents may know that there's something called Bitcoin and that's because myself and siblings hold random discussions about it.

What about the families that they have none of thier children into bitcoin, should they also be counted among or not and just assume they are yet to adopt bitcoin.

Going through my Facebook account yesterday, I also discovered a very funny trending hilarious video that support my notion

Seing a set of people on a random discussion about bitcoin doesn't mean that everyone has known about it completely, yet we are still having more adoption and awareness on bitcoin ongoing.
