There has been a lot of discussions about it for years and as you can see, there were the links that have been provided to you. But as much as everyone wants to have it, the forum is very much responsive to mobile devices and that's why there's probably no need for it anymore. Maybe we'll be surprised in the near future and there's going to be the app that's going to be made for everybody or much better not to think and expect from it anymore as everyone is good and not that problematic at all with the current version of the forum that we've got. If I'll be asked, I want it like this way and as much as possible to remain as is.

I am sure this has been discussed a few times here on the forum and I am against it as the forums work perfectly fine in the browser on your phone.
It's an Old SMF Forum however the mobile responsiveness is there. So I don't think we need a dedicated app just to access Bitcointalk. If someone from the community wants to make one with some mods, go ahead.

Yes it's responsive but you constantly need to zoom in-out, there are settings in browser with which you force site to condense in screen but that rather looks ugly.

Thank you, that's what I was trying to say, the website is not optimized for mobile use. But some people seems to misunderstand me, lol.

Some people probably don't understand what responsiveness actually means in web design.

Anyway, it seems like you've already received an answer on this topic. It's unlikely that the current version of the forum will ever receive an updated responsive design or a dedicated mobile app. You'll have to wait for the new EpochTalk, just like the rest of us.

I don't know if anyone has ever mentioned this or not, but if they have, wouldn't hurt to bring it up again right?
@op it seems you aren't comfortable with the status quo, can you please explain to us why you are not okay with the web browser in just a short period in the forum?  What benefits can we get from using an app that we are not getting using the web to access the forum which for me is seamless and less stressful as I don't have to be going through app upgrades constantly which many of us won't be fine with that.

Yes some persons has mentioned same and that's why it hurts having you brought up same topic over again. Thank you  @ever-young  for making available those thread links above op needs to see to them to understand that the idea of an app for the forum doesn't count looking at the polls from those threads.

This platform I believe is an anonymous platform so I see anything downloading of app would definitely want some information for verification and authentication which is against the existence of this platform. So therefore I believe many would reject that idea or proposals of yours. This website version is okay and working perfectly well from my end with no difficulty on my web browser.  So what point initiating an app when you can access it through your web browser.

This issue is discussed so many times before as many members have already replied to your query. But one of our community member shahzadafzal made a BTC app back in time. i suggest you should give it a try. Well, the experinece might not be that sophisticated as new apps are in the market. Like colorful themes and animations.

Because its just the conversion of this Forum into App which we can do easily with little knowledge of programming but to do that, you also have some experience other wise all you efforts will be a waste. But to be honest i like it this way. Because apps then cover more storage, and might fall prey to more hacks in this way it is only vulnerable to web application's scams and hacks.

I also want one (for better mobile UI/UX), but even the supposedly newer version of the forum(EpochTalk software) isn't even finished after years now — and I doubt it will even finish. Forget it lol a lot of people wanted this for like 5 years+ now.
When many people want it, why don't developers develop it. Even Epochtalk which has not been completed to date. Does the developer need some help from active forum users to do this?
wish Bitcointalk forums had a team to do all the work, so theymos didn't work alone to revamp the look of this forum and bring a mobile forums app.

I don't know if anyone has ever mentioned this or not, but if they have, wouldn't hurt to bring it up again right?

I was wondering the possibilities of the Devs of Bitcointalk forum developing a mobile app for the forum? I believe that majority of us here makes use of our smartphones to access this forum, and the website is not optimized for mobile. So it would please me if the devs can look into this? Just my suggestion.
I have been using this forum on website even on my mobile without any issues. An application for this forum is good but not completely necessary. The website is easy to access, and very easy to get used to.

Also creating a mobile application for this forum can bring the forum to the attention of more scammers and make things easier for them, just like the creation of application for forums like Reddit, Quora, Discourse increased the number of scammers there with fake profile looking for ways to lure users from the forum to other places where they can settle down and deceive them. With just the website, the forum is less attractive to scammers.

I would not personally prefer to use the forum with an app.

I agree- this has been previously mentioned and there was even a thread where a user attempted to add a "dark mode" on the forum outlook.

Though this may be the case, the forum is good as it is. Its simplicity is what drives it more efficient and convenient to use compared if you implement it on different features. What you see on your laptop is the same UI if you access it on your mobile phone.

While there may be previous discussions about creating a specific mobile application for this forum, I will most likely NOT use it but such development is welcomed.

I also sometimes access forums via Mobile. does require familiarity in accessing the forum as we have to zoom in and zoom out. for those who are not used to it maybe there will be thoughts like the OP. if there is a Mobile application for this forum it will be more convenient for Mobile users.

I don't think this is really necessary. but if there is development for mobile applications, we can get options that make us comfortable accessing the forum. however, there are those who like to access forums with a browser on a PC. and there are also those who are forced to access via a smartphone.

The mobile application involves binding to the phone. I'm not sure that people who are trying to protect their privacy would agree to show their numbers in some way.
What is the problem with using a browser on a phone? Perhaps, due to my ignorance, I have never seen an application for forums; how do you imagine that?
No way, lovesmay!!
If you actually meant phone numbers then I'll say that ain't even necessary when it comes to an apps that'd wanna maintain pseudonymity... We've got email addresses linked to everyone's account (goodgle account) and that, for any reasons could be used for proper identification.
Secondly, just like FORK said, you have full access and permission over whatever app controls your device.. maybe except a SECURITY PLUGGINGS. aside that, from your app settings, you can restrict any app at your will.
I understand that most applications don't work well without some certain permissions, but that could certainly be a reason why Theymos has taken alota time - I believe he doesn't wanna have this interceptions.

We all have been discussing it for long as many are using forum on their mobile devices but still the work is in progress with new forum software but till the time I don't find it too much problematic to login on the mobile device although the UI is not compatible on the screen and you have to adjust the screen with zoom in and zoom out but once you get familiar with it it's not a big deal instead for asking mobile friendly app at the time.

There is a mobile theme for SMF forum smfmobiletheme.com but I like the default and current theme we are all used to it.

I use my phone to monitor the discussion but when responding I am more convenient using my desktop, sometimes I need to do research and I need more tabs and use the image uploader, tool to help me participate better in a discussion.

For me it's more convenient using a desktop or a laptop than using a cell, I feel limited if I use my cell to participate in a discussion, I feel more motivated using a desktop, its widescreen, and easy-to type using your keyboard.

I don't think so, because the reason of once we will going to use an apps it will became more conflict as we all know that there are many hackers nowadays and once we login our account in that app hackers can have a chance to hack our accounts so for safety purposes it's better to use web browser because for me it's easier and safe  than any application installed in our mobile phones.

Does it really needed? Is there demand about it?

Since we are fine with old software and this is so user friendly so for me this is much better rather than they spend a lot of money just to maintain that app suggestion. For now we don't actually need it since many like the existing forum. And no need to to have an app since anyone can access this forum by using their chrome browser at any  time the want also its still easy to use like what we do on our computers.

It has been discussed several times, and in the end, the forum was not designed with responsive UI design, and therefore you need more effort in zoom in-out, which makes access to the forum difficult if you are not used to the current design.
There is a new version of the forum  - EpochTalk https://github.com/epochtalk - , but no one knows when it will finally change to it, so if you do not like current UI, you can scrape the data and then request a developer to develop your own interface, or design an application that transforms the current forum data to be more responsive.

There are some open source applications, but they are unofficial and may lead to the loss of your account.

No, that's not quite accurate. Mobile apps don't necessarily need to be "bound to the phone." In most legit apps, you have control over what information the app can access on your phone.

There is no problem using the forum through the phone's browser. However, as already mentioned, the problem lies in the fact that this version of SMF is not optimized to look good on all devices due to the lack of responsive design. Unlike, for example, the new forum software - EpochTalk - that was developed with responsiveness in mind right from the start.

For mobile apps designed specifically for online forum communities, you can check out:

Discourse
Reddit
Quora

Which means that the forum doesn't have a responsive UI design. I don't know why ImThour says it is, when clearly, it's not.

Responsive web design is about creating web pages that look good on all devices!

A responsive web design will automatically adjust for different screen sizes and viewports.

somehow there are quite a number of forum users who think typing on a cell phone will be convenient. maybe access via cell phone is indeed simpler because we can do it anywhere. but when you want to reply to a post, typing using a cell phone is very difficult. it takes time for me who has a small phone screen size and quite a fat thumb. somehow other feelings.

I think, using a PC or laptop with a browser display that we use is very comfortable to access the forum.

Just like everyone here in the forum said, this way already discuss for a very long time here in the forum, And I think everyone is going to agree that this forum didn't really need something like a mobile application anymore because the forum is actually great even on mobile use with just using the mobile browser, I mean there are maybe some issue if your phone has a very small screen but that was the issue of your smartphone but it would still work since you could easily zoom in and out using the mobile browser.

It was probably great to have a lot of stuff here in the forum but it was probably the preference to make the forum simple and if we are going to put a lot of stuff, features, etc it would probably just gonna take more space, I mean there are already a lot of threads here in the forum for sure that is taking a lot of space to store that data. Using the forum on a smartphone is great since its portable and you could access the forum anywhere but I just don't prefer using it since I prefer posting on pc.

Bitcointalk is for texting discussion so think about typing on mobile which is not friendly and uncomfortable. If you can use it on a web browser, do you actually need it on mobile and seriously do you need to install an application to use it, just typing.

Many questions and a mobile app will not be deployed with SMF forum software.

I don't believe the Bitcointalk community needs any special software or app to access it. If it was necessary, our skilled developers and programmers would have already made one. They have created many impressive tools before, so it wouldn't be a big challenge for them.

Personally, I'm happy using the web browser to view the forum, and I don't see any need for an app. There is an addon made by fahbil Bitcointalk Mobile Friendly App for Android that works like an app if you so wants to try it, but it may not be working properly since its developer has been inactive since 2020. Good luck if you decide to use it, though!

Edit July 28th: for those who misunderstood me, I never said the website is not responsive, I mean it's not optimized for mobile, and only displays as a desktop version, in which case you will have to always zoom in and out to make use of it.
