This is not quite what you are talking about, but when you mentioned "p2p Internet" I remembered this:
https://maidsafe.net

It's a network where every asset is distributed and you "generate" and "spend" coins by allowing other computers to use your resources.

Check it out, it's still in the Alpha stage.

Cheers

no it is not stupid - i think what you are looking for is mesh networking and as far as i know there exist quite some projects based on it.

You have described... the internet

Yeah... Well.. A internet without censorship as data would be free spread.

I need some feedback on this.. Am I being stupid or could this be a cool project to make my own internet with free speech?
The internet is essentially p2p already. The internet does not really have any central nodes which everything must pass through that enables censorship. What does enable censorship is that connections to the internet are essentially peer to peer with only one connection, which basically defeats the purpose of p2p. With multiple connections (physical connections), then this is circumvented.

My idea is based only Wifi as the main source of data.. Which requires some serious routers/accesspoints that can communicate with eachother to send the data.

But from what I mean is that to create a internet... That is everything.. So there is no deepweb and no clear net.
Everything is open.

Google can blacklist a website and therefor a user will have a hard time finding what they are searching for if its banned.
Or a government can ban websites so its citizens wont be able to access them.

The only way that censure would be possible with my "idea" is killing the nodes.

Hey everyone..

So.. I was just watching a video on YouTube about Geocaching.. For some reason..

But I started thinking about how everything is monitored and basically Google owns the internet.

Then I got the thought of a P2P network.

The idea I have in mind is the following...

1. Setup a data server that will be able to host websites and other kinds of data for client use.

2. Setup a DNS server that will be able to make the websites accessable with a domain.
- This is the thing I have a few issues with.. Because this will be a private network, so how does domains work here?

3. Setup a router that will be sending and receiving all the data from the client and server.
- Does this ruin the P2P idea itself?

4. Setup 10 access points/repeaters within an area of the router so they can distribute the data and accessibility.

5. Start trying to connect with mobile devices and computers that can use Wifi to connect to the network.

The idea behind this is a network that isnt connected to the internet.
No cables.. Just wifi.

Then other data servers can be set up and be connected to the network to expand it and store more data and services.

Therefore no censorship.

Is this something that is possible to do with IPv4 (TCP/IP) or do I need to look for another protocol instead?
Or is this something that the Tor network is doing already?

This is just a basic idea I got 10 mins ago on the toilet.. So it might be shit..

But I think its really interesting, and I have the equipment to actually test this out.
(Servers, switches, routers, repeaters/accesspoints and an education as a IT Technician.)
