There's a number of sites that take altcoins.
There's also a few payment process networks that process alt-coin transfers including coinpayments.

I believe there is a place for alt-coins in the world of bitcoin. As newer miners/users enter the bitcoin post nuke arms-race continues and bitcoin difficulty shoots through the roof, not everyone will want to use bitcoin. I don't think this is completely a bad thing either. Some people have a hard time adopting something that requires a lot of technical know how and has such a high chance of being lost due to a human error that they will never adopt bitcoin. Also, there is something in the mentality of most people that makes them think they have more money than they do when they have 1000 coins equality 1000 usd versus 1 coin.

I will check out the store so thanks for the link.

Continued musing/rambling

I also have created a few scripts to assist in payment gateway building including a project called BitScrow which offers bitcoin escrow with only php functions. It is available on sourceforge and may be of some use to some of those wishing to accept coins but not run a daemon. It is possible to change the leading character from a 1 to any letter and generate a wallet address based on the coin you are going to run.

on a side note, that would allow anyone to generate a wallet address while waiting for a new alt-coin / binaries to come out.
