I wonder how bullkk found that post? It could have been a result of the forum's weird search feature that got him there. If we ignore the year (2011), the last post was on 8 June. bullkk bumped it on 9 June. Everyone else just kept adding to it, again not looking at the year. It could be an honest mistake by some users, and others just don't care.
He can jump to any page and find a random topic and bump into it. The main bitcoin discussion page currently has 1540 pages, so he could just jump to one of the pages and hit one of the thread that seemed to fit the idea of what he wanted to post. But you are right, some users after someone bumping one topic are not as aware of the topic creation date (outdated or new) as they are only interested in responding the recent post or topic title.

I believe there are reasonable necro bumps. For example that same thread if it had been bumped to point out how much the price has gone up since then and how crazy it seems from a distance in time to consider selling when it was around $20, it would be a different story.

If anyone would want to remember the past as bitcoin was 20$ at one time to where we are now, then he should better create a new thread and can give reference of this old thread in his post.
Another reason for this is because if we allow the necro bumps for some valid reasons (like you mentioned), then everyone will come up with a reason excuses as why they bumped a thread and this can be misused.

I was thinking of leaving the posters who took to quoting the 2011 OP responding in today's terms a neutral tag but I don't like to always be the bad guy in the story, and I see that lovesmayfamilis' report has worked and the comments have been deleted, so I'm going to leave it at that. Although it would be possible to go one by one to the archived posts and use them for reference.

I have always believed that necro posts should be locked.

Well, as I said in the OP the necro bump could have been interesting if done in other terms.

For example that same thread if it had been bumped to point out how much the price has gone up since then and how crazy it seems from a distance in time to consider selling when it was around $20, it would be a different story.

Most responses have continued to reply, many quoting the OP directly and answering it, except for two.
I saw that thread, had a read of the OP and somehow got to leave it be because of the generic nature of it. It ain’t surprising that many would dive in to say a few words given that, it’s only a couple of pages. While few might have to simply read the OP and a lot of others center their attention on the replies, you were sure not to find many others to pay attention to the date of thread creation. As far back as 2011!

I wonder what it was for the user who dug it up. Even more still, the lack of attention to silent details like the date of threads creation. Once the thread is up and it’s got replies on it, there will always be users to keep it alive for a while.

Now look at yesterday's necro bump:
The necro bump was actually done by another user.
bullkk made the following post (which has been deleted by moderators) and brought the topic to the first page.

Quote from: ninjastic.space
TON coin currency of the future, along with bitcoin.

And after that, some other users made posts without any notice to the creation date of the thread.

Since all his posts were deleted yesterday, he also had plagiarism, but the moderators gave him a second chance. Is it now possible to report all the remaining posts as necrobumping? At least I tried Smiley

Everything that is happening now on the forum is simply very sad: some do not pay attention to the topic in which there is a warning about plagiarism and continue to rush to fill their quota, while others are indignant that people react to lies, believing that our task is to shut up and read all nonsense.

Some members do not pay attention to details. It is like following the herd because they are going in a particular direction rather than questioning it. I have always believed that necro posts should be locked. I see no reason leaving them opened. If any new information comes up about it and the topic needs to be updated, the user can simply create a new thread and reference the old one.

I think that if I were the manager of any of them I would take it into account.
As the manager of a campaign any of the members are in, you can take an action based on the posts made there. If they were made simply to fulfil post requirements without reading the room or thread in this case, you can consider making it ineligible for payment and then consider how often that user involved replies like that.

For the forum moderation stand point, I don't think there's much the mods can do. Necro bumps are against the rules of they are not substantial and adds nothing to the discussion. It is difficult to determine when a bump is not substantial, if the author can put some words together they can argue that it brings back a relevant topic to discussion. When more people comment based off this, that argument is stronger. I wouldn't mind if mods lock such threads on sight, but I'll think most will ignore it

The title is a sarcasm, something I use a lot.

I find the following thread, and for explanatory purposes I will quote from the OP:

I bought most of my bitcoin back when they were 90c. I never imagined that a few months later they would be worth 20 times more. I would have been satisfied with an appreciation of 10-20% - after all that is far more than what my bank pays.

How much higher does the price need to go for you to cash out of your bitcoins? What are the reasons why you are not selling now? Is it that you expect the currency to appreciate further? Or are there any other reasons why you are not cashing out?

Now look at yesterday's necro bump:

How much higher does the price need to go for you to cash out of your bitcoins?
It depends on how much you have bought or how much you have invested in. Obviously if I only invested a few hundred dollars, I would want to wait it out until it reaches a thousand minimum.

What are the reasons why you are not selling now?
This is not bitcoin’s highest price and to accumulate and to hold now would be a smart move. I suggest you leave your holdings alone and just let it grow over time because it will. If you really want to sell then you can sell at least half of it and then continue investing. Take opportunity of bitcoin.

Is this guy even alive right now?

What's the reason for bumping this post?

I believe there are reasonable necro bumps. For example that same thread if it had been bumped to point out how much the price has gone up since then and how crazy it seems from a distance in time to consider selling when it was around $20, it would be a different story.

But I think in that thread in yesterday's and today's responses there are many examples of people not making good use of the forum. I think that if I were the manager of any of them I would take it into account.
