There is already a website like the one you are thinking of doing. It is run by a valuable member of the forum named ICOEthics and the domain is www.icoethics.com
I have seen what ICOEthics is doing, however my project will be complimentary to that. Here is an article we just posted on the Pumpkin project:

I'm also working on such platform in Pakistan.
In Pakistan there is no check and balance on crypto currencies and also crypto currency was banned by state bank of Pakistan. But there are still millions of crypto users in Pakistan so they get scammed by fake ICO's due to not have such platform in Pakistan to expose the fake ICO.
I'm Founder of PAKDAX  https://www.facebook.com/pakdax/ and one of our mission is to stop scam ICO in Pakistan. But right now I'm working on the legalization of platform, I hope Everything will be fine because I'm about to interact with government of Pakistan face to face.

sounds interesting, but you will have to rather focuse selling your reviews to cryptousers, not asking icos for money so they give you a good review, if you do that, you get old billionaires to new billionaires again

So you basically want to do something like this --> https://badbitcoin.org/ for ICO's? These guys have been around since 2014 and they did a fine job.

I think the most important aspect of a site like this is the trust factor. People must trust that the information provided on your site is valid and not some scam to eliminate the competition.   Angry

This is exactly the sort of site that works, over the long run. Expose some of the general myths that scams purport like "mining BTC" or "cloud mining" or "generate BTC". Write about the modus operandi, like those watch wallet scams people keep falling for.

But yeah. They have shitty SEO so won't appear on Google searches I'm trying, I don't see how newbies might land on their site unless they search a specific ICO or website keyword that they have a review done on.

You've got a good point about the gambling sites as an example of how the trust works in unintended ways. Some casinos take care of the big guys and the reviewers, and surreptitiously dump out the small fish who doesn't have enough credibility to get noticed or taken seriously if they were to complain. I can easily see how the same trust system for review sites would be abused in the same way.

Ultimately, OP, you can't make a site that reviews or rates individual services. Those regulatory blacklists (like the Swiss and French market/investment regulators) put out blacklists every few weeks but that's far, far from comprehensive. For every review you can do, probably ten new sites pop up. You've got to focus on education and awareness instead.

Exactly, so the only way to take trust out of this scenario would be to open submissions up to the public and to incorporate some kind of rating and review system and for the site owner to do the moderation.

Once people recognize that the moderators or owner of the site is totally biased, support for this site will grow. Trust is earned, so be wary of hosting advertisements on the site that might turn scam.  Wink

Good luck with the site and thank you for a positive contribution to our community.  Wink

Its very hard to earn the reputation in crypto world, due to many reason. Sometimes people do not understand things and first thing they do is accusing you or the ICO a scammer without sufficient background.

The experience of your team, the professionalism of you researches and trusted data, how you will do the assessment - thats what is important, let us all know how will you do it, based on what?

jep thats true i also have my issues with people constantly claiming i scam, although no one ever had losses investing with my ico,

problem is that there are also cultists that want to surpress alternative token.

This is true and trust cant really be built up overnight and would really takes years before it do earn public trust. The risk on trusting up these things which you had mentioned already where they are really prone either they are putting truth informations or just simply giving info which would eliminate the competition.People are already aware on the possibilities of these scenarios and therefore, building up reputation wont really be that easy since there are already sites that prove out themselves to be sufficient when it comes to reviewing ICO or sites which people will normally go or use to known things.

Would be great to include information on how to recognize scammers and update it according to the data on the projects you review. It's a very good idea, as with the number of ICO going on nowadays people would like to consult a number of resources to get the full picture.

you know of the review page that depicts everyone as a scammer except those that payed them not to do?

I am working on a site that will run reviews on crypto based project. My aim is to get the scams and expose them early before they cause much harm. When I say scams, I mean the big ones like Benebit.

I would like suggestions on projects that people suspect may be scammy but not sure. I am setting up an investigative review outfit to run these investigations.

Also I need suggestion for a site such as this. What project would you like to see reviewed?

Post the names of the project or your suggestions here. Also, send the good ones that are promising. They too need exposure...You may also send them to [email protected]

PS: Thanks to all of you that gave good suggestions on the topic, "Writer Thinking of Setting Up A Site". I learnt a lot from it. God bless you all.

although you seem to express to have a noble goal

i have to remind you that cryptoreviewal services, have prooven to have either a history of failure, or corruption (like coinbench.com)

coinbench once listed an ico with a best rating, that then turned out to be a scam ico.

so no point being optimistic on website like that.

I like your motive of having a site that will review scams project. Perhaps similar to this one?

https://tokentops.com/ico/scam/

You can also visit the Scam Accusations board. I'm sure that your project will eat up a lot of your time so just be prepared.

I don't have anything in my mind right now to make a suggestions as to what scams you may want to review but I'm pretty sure that you can come up with hundreds to look at as ICO as like born every minute.

With that said, how can we know that your site isnt open to bribes from other scams that are competing against other scams?

Expose one big scam first to earn trust.

Exactly, you need to build up your reputation if you run a website like that. Nevertheless it could be very useful to catch scams early on, since most of them get cough when is too late.

There are so many "projects" announced everyday, perhaps you could concentrate in those making too bold statements or having particular appealing bounties.

Or simply those which collect a lot comment and views on their thread, for one reason or another.

"The big ones like Benebit"? Its not even not that big. If you want to expose the biggest scams, they are listed in the top 200 in Coinmarketcap.

With that said, how can we know that your site isnt open to bribes from other scams that are competing against other scams?

Expose one big scam first to earn trust.

How is this going to work?

How will you know that the information you get it true or false and that
its either someone with inside info or others just wanting to slate a project?

Dont get me wrong im all for exposing scams but not at the expebse of
damaging (potentially) legitimate projects.
